"Sorry, Sarutobi-sensei," Jiraiya said, looking up. "But this is the sealcrafting innovation of the year. There are so many possible applications which could really tip the balance of power…" he trailed off, looking back up at the team. The Hokage was now looking at them as well.

"Were you the original creators of this design?" the Hokage asked mildly.

There was a long pause as Inoue-sensei visibly weighed the options.

"Yes," she finally said.

"Hmm," was all the Hokage said in response. "Please proceed with your report."

I don't think we should let this slip by. We just handed them a major advantage on a silver platter, we should be getting some recompense for it. This was one of the things I wanted to be brought up in a seal trading scenario.

Ply her trade, plow some jounin, surely?

Originally I had just "plow her trade", but then I figured that was too subtle for Mari's current mindset and added the jounin thing below.

I guess it doesn't work if you have both of them there.

If we end up overthrowing the ninja bourgeois because this was copy-pasted into a plan...

While revolutions have been started for sillier reasons, maybe it's better if we don't turn our Iron Nerve user into a Man of Steel quite yet.

We could argue that things that make us stronger also make us more useful, so they should not count as proper rewards.
Let's not and say we did.
  • The new Team Talky
  • Make nice with the younger Leaf ninjas
  • Hit the library for non-restricted stuff (law, management, history, urban planning etc.)
  • Talk to civilians
  • Find out how Leaf works
  • Learn Socialism!
Add in 'ask our minders about the Chuunin exams.'
  • Medical training for Nobby
    • Didn't we already have an agreement about this?
We already have an agreement on this, so we shouldn't ask for it as a reward.
  • Information on our families in Mist
    • Is mom still in active duty? Prisoner? Alive?
    • Whatever the others want to know
I'd rather use it as 'get us our mom if she's still alive.' Another Jonin would be a massive boost, doubly so when that Jonin can become a Sealmaster like Hanzo.
Earth Jutsu for Hazou
  • Hazou has room for two 10 dice jutsu, we need something good and rare
  • Tunneling jutsu
    • Personal combat tunneling
    • Tunnel building for out of combat
We already have this, so we should just bring it up again.
    • Learn new Sealing stuff!
    • I'm sure they have a library an old grumpy man we can poke with a stick somewhere
    • I doubt Kagome is the first insane sealmaster they have enterntained
Do you really think Kagome would trust them to teach or be taught Seals? Really. Let's not suggest it.
    • If able, read MechApt specialization books and get tutored
I'd rather she focus on getting better.

Or it's a third party using Orochimaru as a pasty for their operations. *cough*Pein*cough*

Or it's a third party using Orochimaru as a pastry for their operations. *cough*Pein*cough*

Even better! :>

(I think you want 'patsy', and I think your phone autocorrect is teasing you.)

I believe Orochimaru turned Kabuto prior to his exam-failing phase. Which would make sense since Danzō wouldn't need a special spy in the Chūnin Exams, and even if he did, not to the point of putting in an agent with Kabuto's experience.
Hang on, could we hav to a clarification as to what was Kabutos role in canon? I was under the impression that Danzo didn't realise he'd been turned. If Kabuto was going out of the way and doing things against Root orders he'd get caught pretty quickly.

sure you did:D

Not really a priority, but we could use it as an ice breaker.

Apparently we don't, see @eaglejarl's post above.

Poaching a foreign jounin is way, way harder than getting basic information about her. The information itself is already a stretch.

We already have this, so we should just bring it up again.

Might have it, or might not. Who knows anymore.

Why would he not want to learn more seals and brush up on his theory? It is one of the things he really likes and the main way he contributes to our team. (In addition to constant paranoia.)

I'd rather she focus on getting better.

Obviously her doctor won't let her study if it impairs her recovery, but at some point she will be well enough to read but not well enough to move. At that point any sort of distraction would be welcome. Passive Akane is a pretty weird thing to imagine.

Reddit thread up. By all means go and exhort the other 5500 readers of r/rational to join us on our suddenly-much-more-likely-to-succeed quest to fix a broken death world.

If you'll excuse me I'm off to go reread that wonderful update :D

This update was beautiful.

Now how would we do when compared to the Konoha 12.
Team 7: Kakashi would have no problem taking on Arikada and her bodyguards himself, but he wants his cute little Genin to get some field experience so he has them fight the bodyguards while he takes down Arikada, who is quite clearly the real danger. Naruto throws out his army of Shadow Clones, most of which get shit on by the Jonin but the MC bonus lets Sasuke take them down quickly. The speed of his Chidori lets him dodge the follow-up explosives, as well. Sakura stands in the background screaming "Sasuke! Naruto! Sasuke!" for the whole duration. Arikada agrees to surrender if Kakashi shuts her up.

Team 8: Kurenai's genjutsu specialty against Arikada's bioseals means she's pissed at Hiruzen for sending her team on a mission whose target directly counters her specialty. Luckily for her, ninjas don't have to fight to win. Between Hinata's Byakugan and Shino's kikaichu, Arikada's every move is tracked from the moment she enters Sarubetsu. After rendezvousing with the Hinago clan and finally relaxing with an indulgence of Vermilion Sigh, Arikada's calm is shattered when she realizes she's far more dizzy than she should be. Yet she can do nothing as Shino's kikaichu quickly swarm her and drain her chakra dry. Extraction is easy after this point: Hinata's Byakugan points out every trap and Kurenai's genjutsu still works on the Murano guards. Kiba pouts because his senses are unnecessary for this type of team. Seriously, why didn't he get put on Team 7 as a sensor, and let Sakura be the medic-in-training?

Team 9: Asuma can tell this mission is a piece of cake, so he says he'll let the team do all the work and will step in only when necessary. Shikamaru complains. Ino gets angry. Choji eats a potato chip.

By the time Arikada finally sees Sarubetsu in the distance, she's already lost. The entire battlefield is filled with tunnels that are prime targets for Kagemane, and Arikada and her guards are quickly captured. Ino quickly knocks out and restrains the enemy with ninja wire, and berates Choji for doing nothing. Choji eats another potato chip.

Team Guy: Arikada surrenders immediately upon seeing Guy and Lee, under the condition they don't talk about youth while they go to Konoha. Guy agrees. Lee shouts about how youthful it is for her to surrender peacefully. Tenten facepalms.

Because he's super paranoid and would probably think that they're trying to figure out what he knows before they hand him over to the sky squid?

I meant in a fight against them but this works too.

I found a fix for the Walking in the Air Technique (Skywalker Technique?).

What we need is to invent a pair of seals, A and B, where A attaches to another seal, and will activate that seal if B is activated.

We then put a KRS-A composite on our shoes, and B on our gloves. Then we can activate the KRS on our shoes, using our hands.

Edit: Come to think of it, meta-seals seems a better specialty, if we want one, than storage seal variants.

- Barrier Method Formation (lesser)

Two seals connected by a tripwire. When the tripwire is triggered, both seals immediately activate. Exploding tags are the standard application, but the technique is not limited to them.
Replace tripwire with some sort of switch, easy. Ask Kagome how his hand explosives are activated, maybe?

We could also use some mechanical engineering/LBF-derivate combination to activate the KRS when a specific foot/leg movement is made. Presumably that'd be about as easy to learn and wouldn't require us to have an extra seal on our hands.
