Normally I don't like to write reaction posts 4 pages after the chapter they're for, but this one merits an exception.

Spoilered for length. I'm really nervous going into this.
Deidara, Lord of Dragons, Master of Mayhem, and Explosivor Excelsior, was happy.
He's not about to be! (I hope :D)

A wave of thunderclaps slapped him in the chest as, far below, the Akatsuki rift facility ceased to exist.
Heh. We out-explosive the Akatsuki explosives master.

Cannai, currently in his preferred size of 'wow that's a big horse', shifted slightly and allowed his tongue to hang out in a doggy smile. "I do indeed check. Although if you wish to trade further barbs with this one, I have no objection." He tossed his head towards Enma, who sat astride Cannai with his staff held at his hip so that it pointed forward like a sword. "Honestly, it is quite charming."
Cannai continues to be best boi. The bioseals were worth it just for this /s.

The Leaf ninja and the handful of summons who knew the song joined in, pride and excitement in their voices.
I'm visualizing this scene and it's epic.

Only when the Tsunades were gone did HazōShotCaller nod to his sibling. HazōTimeToBoom popped, and suddenly every Hazō knew what this Hazō knew: the assault had kicked off and it was time for the Hazōs to do what Hazōs did best. Namely, blow the everliving fuck out of the bad guys.
We bring the Boom! That's what we do!

Below him, he could see that the shield rooms and laboratories had survived the bombardment, which wasn't too surprising given just how paranoid Sasori had been about the defenses and the number of seals the legendary sealmaster had deployed in protection.
Aww, no TPK? Hope it doesn't matter too much.

(The cultists were ridiculous, bowing before the rift and praying at it while sane people were trying to get work done.)
Hey, Jashin is helpful sometimes...

Still, that didn't matter. There was no need to hold the rift; it wasn't going anywhere.
Heh, how does it feel to be on the recieving end S-rank bullshit? /Evil laughter in Kagome/

With a curse, he yanked the dragon around, making it pump its clay wings furiously in order to reverse course before they pancaked into whatever that was.
It's not very effective...

Rapidly, he deployed a variety of additional techniques; nothing worked. That barrier was, as embarrassing as it felt to think the words, invulnerable to his explosives.
Grins maniacally

Wait, if there were three Clan Bosses on the field, was it possible that the monkey with the iron-shod staff was not simply a powerful monkey combatant but Enma himself? The Lord of the Monkey Clan was known to fight with a staff and was the only one on the field carrying one. Good Sage's hopes, that... Wow.

Heck, might as well go all-in and assume the horse-sized dog that Enma was riding was the Lord of the Dog Clan. Gōketsu was a new summoner and young, too young to have the chakra reserves to summon a Clan Lord from the Seventh Path, but today had already shown Deidara multiple impossible things. Why not assume another?
Man, it feels so good to be the ones dishing out the S-rank BS this time around.

Quickly, Deidara amended. Couldn't be solved quickly. All problems could be solved with explosives, but this one wouldn't be solved quickly enough to be relevant.
Hm. A fair point. I must incorporate this new insight into my life philosophy.

That tail was no longer so adorable; each individual hair was sheathed in crystal, turning the thing into a nightmare of spikes and blades that still moved just as freely as before the armor was applied.
Sage! Best Boi gets even cuter when he fights!

Cannai was charging straight through the middle of groups of enemy ninja, tail wagging fiercely. Every time it touched a human being, that human being was converted into so much shredded meat.
This image is hilarious.
> Wags tail
> Kills people

"Mobility," he said, not bothering to fill in the entire sentence. After all these years, they knew each other too well to need to say anything as verbose as that thing's mobility is going to be a problem.

"Yah. Rest of 'em?"

"No idea. Leave it for the others. This one?"

"Kazu Pass?"

"I'll do Jiraiya's part."

"Check. I'll message."
These two are awesome together. Now we just need to get the third one back. :D

Orochimaru broke right and climbed. TsunadeThree popped out of existence, spreading her knowledge and intentions to every other existing instance of Tsunade. Tsunades One and Five left the ground battle and ran upwards, pushing hard for altitude. The rest of the team could find whatever other Akatsuki members were sneaking around down there. For now, there was a dragon to kill.
Been there, killed that.

A snake appeared from Sagedamned nowhere, swallowing Orochimaru whole for just the instant necessary to block the explosion. It then vanished in another puff of smoke and Orochimaru was still moving forward.
Wat. Just wat.

If only Itachi were here with his stupid eyeballs that could demolish an entire clone network in seconds.
I don't know whether to be relieved that he's not or scared about what he's doing. Both is probably good.

Long-ranged attacks were coming up from the ground but they fell far short. This annoying, impossible dome was more than half a mile high, yielding plenty of room to stay out of range. Fortunately, summons were chakra-expensive to maintain on the Human Path, Boss summons even more so, and the dragon didn't get tired. Not even Orochimaru could keep half a dozen experienced snake warriors and Lord Manda himself on the field for more than an hour or two. Once the creatures were gone, everyone down there would be low on chakra.
Well, you see, we pulled a mini-Hidan and kidnapped every ninja in Moon, so I /thiiink/ we have enough chakra here bud. Whatever helps you sleep at night, tho.

It didn't matter, since the move had only been a cover for spraying explosive sand behind himself. The stuff was fine enough to fall slowly, almost floating on the breeze, and to be almost invisible. It still packed a punch. It wouldn't trigger on him or his creations, but if anyone else ran through it they were going to become yet another sample in Deidara's gallery of creation.
Huh, that's a neat trick. Deidara's S-rank bullshit is useful and flexible, but fairly straitforward, it seems.

All the remaining summons except Enma and Cannai had been released back to the Seventh Path in order to conserve chakra.
Hah, you thought, Deidara!

All the remaining summons except Enma and Cannai had been released back to the Seventh Path in order to conserve chakra. Deidara was still alive. He had killed three of the Sannin clones and was proving impossible to hit. It was only a matter of time until he got the rest. Then he would locate the runic explosives, pop all the clones manning them, and have control of the interior of the dome and of the Remote Explosive Runes themselves.
*HPMOR Gregory Goyle vibes intensify*
Just spam Luminos and Professor Quirrel will call him out.

This chapter is very satisfying. I feel like we've come so far, we can now not just beat but completely overwhelm S-rankers. (Though since it looks like Deidara was the only Akatsuki at the base, and we had so much trouble beating him, I'm probably being way too optimistic.) I still thought it would have turned out a lot worse. "No casualties" is better than I expected.

Thanks to all three of you (@eaglejarl, @Paperclipped and @Velorien) for the massive amount of work I'm sure you put into this.

I would argue, if we are going to EM Nuke Rune Rain, that we should bring Naruto in as a vanguard/distraction force while we EM Nuke Rune them. This way, we can take the mantle of Tenth Hokage, right before we EM Nuke Rune Leaf for killing Akane.

God, we're up to *ten* already in the last 2-3 years? They'll need to come up with a new name for the dictator position, once it hits double digits it's kinda embarrassing.

Lovely chapter btw. Loves Deidera, appreciate his glazing of Hazo's capabilities. Fingers crossed we got Sasori and maybe one more!

A wave of thunderclaps slapped him in the chest as, far below, the Akatsuki rift facility ceased to exist.
That's modernism babey!!!
HazōTimeTracker began to sing, his young voice lifting high in the call to arms that was his nation's anthem. "To the glory of the Leaf, we ascend!"

"To the future of the Leaf, we do strive," the multiple Tsunades and Orochimarus sang, carefully matching their tempo to Hazō's.

The Leaf ninja and the handful of summons who knew the song joined in, pride and excitement in their voices.
Ooooh that is clever. Picking this song. Oro and Hazō making a show of patriotism. Nice nice nice.
In the lead by twenty meters ran a collection of young monkeys, new warriors who had nothing to contribute to a battle at this level but were being given the honor so that they could experience their first taste of true combat. (Which was a much nicer thing to say than 'can show the rest of us where any potential anti-summon jutsu or seal arrays might be because they will pop first.')
Thank you for using metric
Hey, as we learn in Go, higher-level players make different moves: "probing moves," that force the opponent to reveal their strategy and aim, and in general more moves that further several different purposes at once. They're not sacrificial pawns, they are valued allies and comrades-in-arms that just so happen to have the added benefit of being pawns to sacrifice. Much better :)
No. No, the bombardment was a footnote, a measely prelude, a wetting of the brush. It was not a portrait being gifted with grace and elegance but merely the illustrated wrapping paper around the actual gift. An ugly, clumsy gift that obviated the beauty of its covering.
I've only known Deidara's internal focalisation for a few seconds, but if anything happens t- oh, right.
It was more than a bit aggravating to see Sasori's seal arts trump Deidara's explosive arts, but he comforted himself that the victory of sealing was down to the inadequacy of the explosive painter, not to the failure of explosions as a style. After all, the grace with which the brush was wielded mattered more than the boldness of the color choices.)

Across that quarter-mile killing field came an army of attackers beyond anything even the greatest painters would have attempted to fit into a single work.
See what I mean? Such a shame that it should now go. I'm assuming we won by the way. If I'm wrong, well, when I "assume" I make an "ass" out of "u" and "me."
Deidara touched the miniaturized telescope strapped over his left eye, the result of Sasori's genius at optimization.
Now this is just hurtful.
Deidara breathed out, looking for a plan. Step one, make a huge smokescreen to cover whatever it was he decided to do. Second, split off a shadow clone
What, Itachi taught him the technique? That's treason!
This annoying, impossible dome
I really like the part where the S-rank ninja calls bullshit
To his right and far too close, the sky was torn open by an explosion large enough to bring tears of joy to Deidara's eyes.
GŌKETSU CLAN IMPROVED TECHNIQUE: KAGOME'S SHADOW

Deidara, Lord of Dragons, Master of Mayhem, and Explosivor Excelsior, was no longer happy.

He was dead.

I feel an important question: what are our objectives now, i mean tangible "What do we do now" instead of the more vague but still very important plans? Before we were basically at "obtain the rift in a suicide mission" with the future being an understandably vague "if we survive(which we possibly won't), we save everyone", now, against all odds, we did it.
Therefore i feel we need clear goals and priorities on how to survive the coming storm.
There are going to be a lot of actors, with a lot of different priorities, and we have a lot of people that we would like to not see dead, both on our side and the other, after all.

Welcome! Nice to have you. How did you find is?
Of course, this probably isn't applicable to as large a Force Dome as would be necessary to cover Leaf
Actually, I think it might be possible. IIRC, Leaf is about a mile diagonally, maybe a bit more. A Force Dome is 1.24 miles diameter. (1km radius.) I may be misremembering the numbers and it might not fit regardless.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped Force Domes burn out when turned off. Does this apply to other runes like Iron Earth and Ninja Radar? Alternatively, do we have any way of safely burning out the runes we used at the fight?
Will get back to you after I sleep more, unless the others do first.

Am I making any sense with this? Does anyone else see what I'm getting at here, and why I'm worried about it/think something needs to change?
You are making sense, yes. The QMs have been intending to talk about this issue, but we've been putting it off in favor of getting the battle stuff done. Over the next couple/few days we'll be able to discuss about our policies towards revealing information OOC instead of requiring they go in a chapter. Part of the issue is that we want the quest to be readable by someone who isn't following the discussion, so OOC answers can make that difficult. Indeed, I'm not sure the Moon raid ever got mentioned onscreen, which will likely be a problem at some point.

Alright, I had most things squared away before this update, so here's the updated visual timeline covering chapters 601-700!
Wow. That is so cool. Thank you for doing it.

He set the Superchiller off in testing at some depth, it wasn't noticeable on the surface. So there is a safe depth

I realize EJ's quote says he didn't do that -- it's an error. He set it off.
You are correct. I'll fix it tomorrow.

Did we take no one alive?
Sadly, no.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

Can I please get the CP cost for the new dogs that Hazō summoned? Bull especially is what I am interested in. It's for a graph.
Will get back to you. We never determined it since Hazō had all the needed chakra and we knew they were easily in his budget.

Clearly, this story is actually about the Adventure of the Sannin with Team Uplift as a widely successful spinoff.
I started to mark this Funny but then realized maybe it wasn't a joke. Does it actually feel this way to you?
Normally I don't like to write reaction posts 4 pages after the chapter they're for, but this one merits an exception.

Spoilered for length. I'm really nervous going into this
My friend, please don't be nervous about this at all. React 4 pages after or 4000 pages after, no one will object. QMs love getting this type of indepth reaction (well, unless it consists of multiple flavors of "this sucks") and no one here is going to give you a hard time about it.

Up to you if you want to put it in a spoiler. I've never seen it be an issue either way.

What, Itachi taught him the technique? That's treason!
You are the first person to call out that line. :>

Thank you for the lovely reaction post.

Wait. Would it be possible to leave a gap in the dome/iron earth defensive shell?
Sure. It makes our defense not be so perfect anymore. But if its nice and obvious it means we have a killbox we know the enemy want to use.
Maybe have an arch of earth that blocks the dome from going lower.
Then we can make a trap. a smaller dome that cuts off the entrance as soon as an enemy tries to push through.

And long term, it means we have a near perfect defense that still lets the city function as like... a village.

Related. Assuming Iron Earth won't help if we have any pre-existing tunnels into the village?
Like. Oh. The ones that were used to collapse half the village that one time?
