That's a thing we can do?!
Da rules:

Really? You don't want to deal with it? Screw it, it's my day job. Let's see what I can throw together.

"Mumble mumble giantlaserdoggosaurs mumble mumble almost murdered by an alien insectivore because somebody felt it might be fun to use a marriage proposal to figure out which couriers were leaking message details mumble mumble marriage proposal from a twenty ton spider mumble mumble all of reality about to be eaten by predatory monstrosities from beyond time and space even the twenty ton spider is afraid of mumble mumble information leaks tend to cascade go read the T&I packet about need-to-know protocols mumble mumble."

There. Anybody still digging for details is either a spy or an idiot and should be dealt with appropriately.
I was saying that the FOOM OPSEC meeting sounded shatteringly boring, not whatever you're describing above.

Also, @eaglejarl is it clear that the current plan involves timeskipping until the Rift seals are done?
It is, but be advised that you have no way of knowing how long that will be. The rest of the world has agency too and there are always timers running in the background. If you ask for an indefinite timeskip you could find yourself jolted out of it two months later with the task still not done but being interrupted because a world war started while you were busy focusing on research.

This... seems fine as long as we're pulled out of it? Do we have other urgent priorities right now? Dimensionalism seals are one of our few avenues to trying to understand the Great Seal better.

[X] Fire and Brimstone (and Some Dogs)
Word Count: 294
  • Kagome:
    • Between other scenes, assist with Rift analysis seals for 2 of Kagome's research cycles.
    • Would you be willing to learn summoning from a Goketsu?
    • Ask about:
      • Hazou's experience of Dragon Aura. Did the Sage make them from the Out?
      • Dragons were created to fight the ten tails, which was split into tailed beasts... three tailed beasts were caught in Pein's ritual. Could this destabilize the Seal? What if it's failing intentionally? A safety mechanism, in case of tailed beast fuckery?
      • Nekkar implied a greater threat. Does the 7th Path have other weapons?
      • Jiraiya killed the Squirrel Summoner a couple years ago. Were there hints of this in his notes? Could we look through them?
        • Declare: Jiraiya, unwashed bachelor, left his clothes from that day in a storage scroll, marred with his blood and the Squirrel Summoner's.

  • Dogs
    • Cannai & friends
      • Thanks for the Bison, the poor are eating better than they ever have. What can we do for you to make this somewhat regular?
      • Conclave news? Clans involved, path to Arachnid, etc.
        • Share Ami's insight on navigating through unfriendly territory.
      • Bear Scroll update?
      • When Hazou heals, he's heading a search party to find the Squirrel Scroll. Do you have any trackers that could sniff out a scroll that could temporarily contract with us?
    • (Offscreen) Tell Canvass we had people search for the pack she described, but didn't find anything.
  • HOWS
    • Replace HOWS when appropriate.
    • Ask Kumokogo how the Dragon Aura feels to her.
    • Speed up progress on the tunnel by using Noburi refills on the Human Path.
    • If Arachnids have learned seal-usage, during the distraction:
      • Suicide implosion seals near Dragon's lungs
      • Lure Dragons at high speed into 5SB'd ultra-thin spider silk
    • If possible, bring Kadokura Ruri (or others) to confirm Dragons.
    • Survive.
Updated, mostly with things to sate my own curiosities :p

Ping me on discord if you have any major objections, i'll see it sooner

By the way, what "FOOM" stands for? Neither Google nor searchbar helped, but I used them only for a couple of minutes, so I wouldn't be even surprised by faflec answering it in the next 10 to 15 seconds.

It's an onomatopoeia for something moving really fast lmao

We can be a bit silly with our naming but you gotta admit it's kinda iconic now

FOOM is the sound something makes as it moves past you at an extremely fast relative velocity.

Can we set a maximum time of 1 month? I am worried that minor things might come up during the timeskip that we won't get waken for. A month seems like a decent amount of time to get research done and if nothing comes up that we have to deal with by then, we can simply go right back to work.

Mechanically, since the amount of SC training you can do is limited by your Resolve stat, direct all SC XP towards Resolve. The result is quadratic growth in amount of XP generated.

In our defence, it wasn't we who decided to name the process of becoming an agent of supreme power at great speed by benefitting from a positive feedback loop "FOOM".

For the record, I never liked the term "FOOM", neither in relation to AI nor in relation to SC. The fact that it's not an acronym despite being written as one and occupying a place in the terminology-space where it'd make sense for it to be an acronym, annoys me terribly. We could've used "SC Singularity"/SCS, or "SC feedback loop"/SCFL, or "SC Soft Takeoff"/SCST, but noo.

Edit: It also teases being a portmanteau of "feedback", "loop", and something starting with "m", but it's also not that. It's on the whole wrong abstraction level! It describes a medium-independent dynamic, and the term assigned to it is "the sound a physical object makes when it goes really fast"? Terrible!

This is fine -- presumably he had the same idea as you, which was to get an Inuzuka (in your case Dog) tracker to go back with him in an effort to retrieve the scroll. Unfortunately, those wacky kids bad guys in Mist, the distraction of whom had been the entire point of the mission to Neck, were getting stroppy again and Jiraiya couldn't be spared for the next couple of years. By that time the odds were low enough that it went on the "Yeah, maybe someday" list and never got done.

Upside: You get your Declaration.
Downside: It's a 2-FP declaration, meaning that you're spending both of the FP you would have gotten for your refresh this update, meaning that you're still at 0 FP.
Other Downside: There's no reason to think the scent trail is still there.

Fingers crossed that the Dogs have exceptionally good trackers. Hopefully if we can narrow down the area, super-chakra tracking will help us find it by brute force if needed.

@faflec Hazō told Gaku to put together a list of the families of the Yakuza that Haru murdered. As far as @Velorien and I are aware, that is the only thing that has been done on that front. Are we missing anything?

That and where they live, for the purposes of arranging restitution. EDIT: IMO we want to do more but are waiting for the information to proceed.
+3 XP if someone models out how many CP this is going to take. Zones don't have a fixed size but for this purpose we'll assume 20m. It's about 85 km to the destination.
Alright, 85km distance with 20m/Zone means we need to cross 4250 Zones total. At level 1, Hazou's Tunneling Excavation lasts 1 minute and lets him cross 1 Zone/Round. Rounds last 3 seconds, so this means Hazou can make 20 Zones/casting of Tunneling Excavation. This means Hazou must cast Tunneling Excavation 212.5 times (we'll round to 213 casts). Tunneling Excavation costs 26CP per cast, meaning Hazou must spend 5538CP total.

Check my math, please.

Your math checks out. It's potentially worth noting that this means that he'll get nine casts per trip; he needs to summon Cantelabra to get to the Seventh Path, leaving him with 255-245 CP to actually tunnel. As such, he'll need to make 24 (23.667) trips.

How much chakra is in the pond?

On Discord, Velorien indicated that we can safely assume that the report is complete.

Would it be easier if we took that one on our own initiative (i.e. a line in a plan about 'given the information Reo found, do x') or is that stepping on toes and we can expect to know when that report is available?
Velorien said:
No, I think taking action would be fine. Reo finding the information by now is not implausible or in some way an unearned advantage. You could ask @eaglejarl to put in a line in the next update if you don't want to deal with it this plan.
As such, I think it would be a really good idea for our to action this next plan.

[] Plan fragment: Righting Wrongs
  • Approach the Yakuza
    • One of our clan members interfered with your organization.
    • We heartily apologize and imagine you are aware of the punishment we have deemed appropriate.
    • Punishment is not justice; we would like to approach the loved ones and families of the deceased.
      • We felt it would be inappropriate to do so without your permission. This is the list we have - is it complete? Money springs to mind but we do not wish to be crass. What assistance may we best offer?
  • Hazo meets with the families, apologizes, offers financial/other support based on advice from Yakuza, Mari.
