Hey there's a plan I can finally support. I won't tho.

I mean, not yet. Possibly later. "3.<???>" Makes it sound like it could use some work, and I'm not sure if that entire closing ceremony section is even applicable to the next update.

[x] Action Plan: The Real Essie was Out All Along
Word count: 399
  • Group meeting: Mari, Kagome, Noburi, Akane, Keiko, Yuno, Haru. Security: high.
    • (Confirm with Mari/Keiko whether sharing information about BotG with Yuno is acceptable beforehand.)
    • Introduction:
      • Team Uplift's goal is to dramatically improve the living conditions of everyone in the world. So far, we've been focused on opposing and reshaping our civilization's self-destructive systems. That remains the main priority.
      • But, as several recent events showed, the problem runs deeper: reality itself is fragile. Pain's plan was world-ending. Whatever his intentions were, the fact that a world-altering event on this scale can actually happen is terrifying. For you, it threw into stark relief some of the fundamental truths glimpsed by Sealing.
      • The truth is, deliberate human actions aren't even necessary. Reality is keen on tearing itself apart on its own. The damage from that is often catastrophic, and could be arbitrarily large. Worse still are the things that lurk outside, and occasionally seep through these tears: horrors of unfathomable power and malice, some of which can casually snuff out our entire universe.
      • It's a terrible truth. We're meant to be cowed by it, stuck helpless with fear — the same way we're meant to be resigned to the EN's system of violence. As far as you're concerned, that is merely more of the same: another terrible thing we'll need to eventually fix.
      • And while directly working on it is far above our current pay grade, it doesn't mean we can't gather information.
    • We have a large selection of leads we could pursue, but we should focus on the most salient one: Pain.
      • Points of discussion:
        • Pain/Rinnegan's nature and powers.
        • The ritual's purpose.
        • "The Five, still sealed after a thousand years of sacrifice".
        • The fate of the lost bijuu.
        • The bird summon — an archaeopteryx?
      • Provide Kagome with the detailed description of the ritual site, ask for his analysis.
      • Yuno: Perhaps there's something relevant in Isan's cultural knowledge?
  • Meet with Asuma (clear/improve with Mari and Kagome):
    • First: The sealing arrays at Nagi are a research goldmine. If Asuma could get us a short visit, we'll be able to get them for Leaf.
      • (Obfuscate the method of copying: request that Hazou, Kagome, and Mari were sent.)
    • Second: If Kagome was permitted to learn SC, he would be able to decode Jiraiya's notes much faster. He's already aware of the jutsu's existence. Would Asuma be willing to authorize teaching him?

@eaglejarl, is it too much content for one plan? I'm counting three scenes, but the second one might be fairly long...

@eaglejarl How close are we to the phase in which we start punching and building an aqueduct?
Dunno. When did that project start?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail
I seem to recall some mention that if a plan wasn't finished voting would be closed until it finished (and of that overruling EJ's default voting is always open). Did that happen? Is it still happening?
We've waffled on that a bit. Voting is open now.

Unless there's a good reason not to, I intend to skip to the end of the contest.

It looks like two scenes to me (talk to family, then talk to Asuma). OTOH, I'm not sure what the first scene is trying to accomplish...?

I'm kinda tired of calling group meetings every couple updates. Is that just me?

Like, we could just have regular, once a week scheduled clan gatherings and bring this up then instead of calling everybody together for some top secret thing.

I also don't feel like that whole "reality is fragile" introduction is necessary.

Honestly, the scene would be heavily improved and shortened if you just have Hazo casually express an interest in Pain's plans and work next time the family is together.

"This stuff is interesting, powerful, scary, and I want to know more. What do you guys think?"

Wait, what? Is this talking about the grue?

My understanding is that Asuma already has people in the area while he and the other Kages discuss what to do with it, according to Hazou's guess. I'm not sure Asuma'd be willing to send sealmasters off in that direction to understand the place, not when it could undermine the neutrality of the area with the other Kages.
Second: You estimate that Kagome's in for several years of full-time decoding. He's already aware of the Shadow Clones' existence. Would Asuma be willing to authorize teaching him?
  • (Only do if Kagome's interested in learning SC.)
I'm a bit concerned that Asuma will do the opposite, and insist that Hazou give over all Jiraiya's notes on the grounds that we need those spy notes ASAP.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Is this Hazou/Kagome's actual estimate? How far into Jiraiya's notes is Kagome, and how has his decoding rate changed over time?

Asuma has already considered that possibility. Last time, he decided to let us do it as fast as we could. We have lost goodwill since then....

Mostly, it's trying to get Kagome's take on the whole Akatsuki situation and to prompt Yuno to share her information on the Five (she'd mentioned "Five Forbidden Clans" in her internal monologue).

Also it's trying for a cool speech that calls back to the unobjectionable parts of PotO ("reconciling the vision of Uplift with the truth of reality") and gives a framing to the entire Forbidden Lore arc. If the speech isn't working, it's probably best to remove it. Is it not working?

Doesn't seem realistic, given the way plans interact with IC timeline.

Regarding the "reality is fragile" bit, yes, maybe.
Wait, what? Is this talking about the grue?
Didn't Kagome talk about how reality is as fragile as a cobweb well before the grue?

But Hazou's also guessing that Ren was willing and able to do the same, which suggests it's something Asuma would also at least consider.

I dunno, is seizing clan secrets like that on the table now? Our position doesn't seem that bad.

imo if I were Asuma, I would ask why Kagome can't just have an assistant. Kagome handles the complicated code-cracking, and then passes the key to the assistant who knows how to decode from the key. This could be anyone in the clan, from Akane to Hazou, and Hazou's on track to get full SC permission soon, so it's not like we can't spare any hands on the task.

Each person we add to the decoding team cuts months or years off of the end date, without risking any clan secrets leaking out or waiting for Kagome to build up his chakra reserves.

How do Goketsu clan economy works?

Do civilians that earn money contribute to the Goketsu household budget?

[X] Action Plan: Operation Uplift
wordcount: 255

Review actions by Mari and the clan, etc.

Talk to Tsunade:
  • One million ryo donation, delivered quietly, to her charity.
  • Send someone appropriate(if not Hazo, then Mari, Noburi, or Akane)
  • Schedule a conversation with Tsunade at her convenience.
    • Goketsu Clan is(if they aren't already) matching all Till'n'Fill missions and sending volunteer teachers. Would be great to coordinate this with doctor's visit.(
    • Proposal: Develop tool and techniques for civilian doctors
      • Ninja medicine is the most effective in the EN, but unfortunately not available to civilians.
      • Will be harder, but not impossible. Goketsu's secret military contribution staffed by civilians is proof of concept.(Make sure it's not TREASON to mention this)
    • Advice for Goketsu clinic?

Nagi island expedition:
  • The seal arrays at Nagi Island are a gold mine
  • Goketsu has ability to copy seals. *Don't mention bloodline, how it works, lest Ren strangle us, etc*
  • If Asuma can help get us close enough we can get him a copy of the arrays
  • Second: If Kagome was permitted to learn SC, he would be able to decode Jiraiya's notes much faster. He's already aware of the jutsu's existence. Would Asuma be willing to authorize teaching him?
Misc(offscreenable):
  • Prank Noburi
  • Make sure that things get submitted. If Skuyslider is flyable, submit that as well.
  • Review projects. See where they are at. (Skyslider, aqueduct, sewer, toilet)

Man, Hazou's made so much progress. Not that long ago he couldn't even see the breakup for what it was. And now he might be mature enough to actually make this thing work. I don't even really care that much whether he and Akane get back together, his emotional growth is good to see for it's own sake. Awesome update @Velorien.

Invite Akane to a romantic date.

      • Will be harder, but not impossible. Goketsu's secret military project involving only civilians is proof of concept.
    • Advice for Goketsu clinic?
    • If Tsunade never name her charity effort: call it "Doctors Without Borders".
Contest:
  • Make sure that things get submitted, including skyslider.
    • Invite the skyslider team to a dinner to celebrate all of their progress and contributions.
Engineering:
  • Review projects. See where they are at. (Skyslider, aqueduct, sewer, toilet)
    • Skyslider is state secret. Impress the engineers the grave importance of keeping it secret.
    • Aqueduct. If it's at stage 'ready' for punching and clearing land. Do that.

I got @eaglejarl seal of approval for 'fun' on discord. (Not dying isn't guaranteed)

Kagome isn't against it, but not really comfortable with it, also probably lacks the chakra:
Kagome dithered a little over the Shadow Clone Technique, insofar as he was uncomfortable with the idea of another ninja with all of his knowledge wandering around, especially given that the copy would be as sensibly but dangerously suspicious of him as he was of it. However, Hazō persuaded him by highlighting the practicalities of never having to take time off research, even when seals needed scribing. He also commented that Kagome could now have a permanent disposable prototype tester who would pass along detailed memories of how the prototype failed, but was thrown into silence by two words: "Out contamination".

That said, the odds of a specialised sealmaster having the chakra to use it right now are low.

@Noumero , could you just remove Yuno and Haru? I know why it's there but it's called forbidden knowledge for a reason, I would like to avoid any kind of unforeseen consequences because of that discussion. Let's just simple grab those Nagi seals if possible and end the contest.

Leaf's intelligence archive's are gone, so in this case Asuma has absolutely a reason to possible take them.

Leaf's intelligence archive's are gone, so in this case Asuma has absolutely a reason to possible take them.
Which is exactly why he basically told us "This is Kagome's top priority, or it's your head." He doesn't want to cross the line of violating the sanctity of clan secrets, but he really wants those notes as fast as possible, so he put pressure on us to get it done as fast as we can.

I personally think that if Asuma learned that Kagome could move faster with an assistant (which is likely, given the nature of cryptography), he'd tell us to get one or more of us helping Kagome at all times. Barring that, he seems to be content with Kagome moving as fast as he can, as it's not like further pressure will make him work faster. And if Asuma wasn't in favour of seizing them then, unless something drastic happens there wouldn't be much reason to seize them now.

Personally, I wonder if we can get some bright civilians on the case. Keep it to people living on our estate, and diligently swear them into secrecy, but get more hands working on the job so we can shave years off the task. Asuma would like that, I feel.
