It's good that Hazou's first shadow clone formed lying down, so that it didn't have to worry about falling over without the Iron Nerve! :p

We've still got a long road ahead of us, but we finally have the jutsu in our grasp and it is glorious.

@1234qwerty I really like the wind technique. It makes sense, is flavorful, and powerful, though it might be a bit too strong. Maybe add double the aspect bonus instead of 1/3 the skill?

The reason I say this is because with 18 levels (171 xp) you effectively add 6 to any offensive rolls. Assuming primary punching skill of 80, that's worth 501 xp.

With the other method you'd get plus 6 at 20, which is 210 xp, and plateaus until level 30.

[X] Training Hazou: SC

Already agreed with the plan. Though given asuma's restrictions we probably need to adjust it to increase CR.

Skysliders:
  • Not important to fly - just to glide. Birds of prey can glide for hours on updrafts without flapping, so let's not build a design that flaps.
    • In fact, if gliding is hard, then very few shapes should work. Kites are one, folded up paper is not.
    • Therefore, we should make a thing which doesn't move at all - so we can find a shape that glides and not risk changing it.
  • Small birds can't carry very heavy prey. We want the skyslider to carry heavy things (people), so the glider itself should be light.
    • Don't start with big designs of course - start with little ones and once there are some that work, scale up
    • Are there wood types that are sturdy and light? Make a frame with that, like "bones".
    • Feathers are good, but impractical for big gliders. What is lightweight that can cover a wing? Maybe stretch fabric over the wood frame?
  • Since we want to add weight eventually, keep the handle for throwing the hand-prototypes on the underside - where a weight might hang anyway.

@eaglejarl Does this look like plausible reasoning for Hazou?

What we need before we're on our own for SC:
  • We can create one clone and still have enough CP for a sparring match.
    • This keys off of Chakra Reserves, of which we do not have enough.
  • We can make two Shadow Clones that last for 15 minutes.
    • Shadow Clone duration keys off of Shadow Clone level, of which we do not have enough.
  • We can dispel both of those clones without feeling any pain from the experience.
    • This keys off of Resolve, of which we do not have enough.
We need to clear this gateway before we monofocus on FOOM strats, so here's my plan to put us at least most of the way there.

[X] Training Hazou: SC Suite
Shadow Clone 10: 54 XP
Chakra Reserves 22: 86 XP
Resolve 24: 90 XP
Save 0 XP

We should definitely hold to the promise we just made to Asuma.

By my reckoning, "Able to spar" means enough chakra to boost at least twice without passing out. I think our boost maxes at 15 CP right now, so: (X - 175) / 2 >= 31, X >= 237
Suggests we need CR 24.

In a similar vein, "2 for 15 minutes without suffering clone sickness" is a goodly distance out. Right now we have 20 - 6 [Out damage] - 3 [low SC aspect bonus] + 4dF vs 22, or [-1..23] vs 22. Don't reckon we'll be able to rely on Fate points for this. Leveling SC to 30 brings us 12 points higher to [11..35], and we'll get done with our mental healing not too long afterwards for [17..41]. Still need another 5 in Resolve, then.

Hazou's like "With Shadow Clone I can break the world in unexpected ways", while we're like "let's just use it as a training technique but better"

The world was a very strange place when the Hokage summoned you to the middle of a Training Ground instead of to his office. With no notice. A training ground that was currently ringed with ANBU agents, if the ones that Hazō had spotted on the way in were anything to go by. Summoned you there, and then offered you tea.

Are... are we getting murdered? Damn, should've sent that fruit basket.

Offering Hazō two equidistant cups was a courtesy that the Hokage did not need to provide. Especially since, as he made the offer, Asuma had casually shifted a pace away from the table such that neither cup was meaningfully closer nor farther from himself.

Loving the detail!

Or: "Tell me what you think you know so that I can tell you why and how you're wrong."

You missed the part about how re-integrating the clone's memories can be traumatic, but the rest is accurate.

Yup. Something definitely happened to Naruto.

I spoke to Noburi and asked him to gauge your chakra levels for me, in comparison to Keiko's. He was reluctant to divulge the information but did so when reassured that it was for your safety.

"I understand and respect your loyalty to your brother, but I'm your Hokage and I need to know if this S-ranked Jutsu I want to teach Hazou will end up killing him."

Even more horrible was the fact that it wasn't actually a choice. A Shadow Clone was not actually a person, despite feeling like one. It was a chakra construct, bound to the will of its creator. It could argue and debate but at the end of the day it was still bound to follow orders the same as any other chakra construct. It was an open question whether humans had free will, but there was no such question among Shadow Clones. When push came to shove, they would obey orders, even suicidal ones. It had the freedom to interpret orders, to choose its implementation method, and to be generally recalcitrant, but the clone would obey as surely as water would flow downhill.

The very worst part was that it was okay with that.

We might want to keep this away from Ami and Mari. Ami because... well, Ami. But Mari has enough issues with manipulation without adding this to the mix.

There were definite downsides to this jutsu.

Naruto spams SC more than Hazou does MEWs. Gotta wonder what that does to a person. Does Naruto consider himself little more than a queen ant with an army of drones? Or the king of a mental gestalt? I mean, Naruto's been spamming SCs like crazy --even by his standards --to help rebuild the Leaf. Damn. I wonder how he's holding up?

Did Hazou just do a murder?

Nope, philosophical zombie. Looks like a person, acts like a person, seems to almost think like a person, but isn't really a person. But that doesn't make it hurt any less for the ninja who creates and destroys them. They're human, not hyper-rational, incorporeal beings that are free of crude emotion.

I believe Keiko's SC dismantled him about exactly this - Naruto has likely pushed his mental state to some extreme he desired and has been holding it there through the influence of his clones.

*Disagreement Emerges*

So, we need to level our resolve, our CR, and SC.

Also, we need Noburi to get a spare weekend at some point. Because I still want to know how much Chakra we can get if we just go hunting. Given that this world has man-eating sheep and carnivorous rice, finding dangerous things to absorb shouldn't be difficult.

Wonder how much chakra the carnivorous rice has. Might be worth starting a mini-farm or something.

Or, hey, there were these murder-you reeds back in the Swamp of Death, maybe it could be worth making some marshy land and planting them, so Noburi can just drain their chakra every whenever.

We're not allowed a chakra beast farm inside the walls currently. What about outside? Perhaps we yoink a small farm plot and throw down some chakra rice?

[X] Action plan: One week
  • Spend one week advancing the following projects, checking everything with the clan.
  • Summoning Scrolls: Get information on the regions where we suspect the scrolls are.
    • Haru and Akane: Interview merchants and ninja.
      • Learn about local contacts, powerful groups, and other agents that might be helpful.
      • Find out about local customs.
    • Hazō and Kagome:
      • Review Jiraiya's notes, searching for contacts or assets that might be helpful.
      • Procure maps
  • Skysliders:
    • Not important to fly - just to glide. Birds of prey can glide for hours on updrafts without flapping, so let's not build a design that flaps.
      • In fact, if gliding is hard, then very few shapes should work. Kites are one, folded up paper is not.

  • Socials:
    • Hang out with Noda
      • She needs a friend
      • She was a jerk to us but we understand and don't hold it against her
      • If she wants help we will offer it but no obligation
      • No plots no manipulation just peers talking
  • Get cleared by Kagome to start seal research.
    • We've been performing high level diplomacy and everything has been going fine
    • Start work on larger storage scrolls, checking Jiraiya's decoded notes for hints.
  • Misc:
