The important thing to remember is that Hiashi can't really afford to make serious moves directly against us. He's very weak politically as well as deathly allergic to Rasengan poisoning. Actually arresting us would spark a civil war.
Unless we do something that can be clearly (and unambiguously) called disloyal/[generically bad] by members of both factions.

Bear in mind - Hiashi is politically weak, but so are we; Shikamaru did not feel politically safe directly associating with us yet; we aren't the core of the ISC block and we aren't the core of the KEI block, so actions against us may be politically costly, but actions in favor of us also are, which leaves us in the position of being able to take moderate, but not major risks.

Treason by definition is an extreme case of disloyalty to the state and its laws, if a crime is bad enough it's labelled treason it's already a league above anything thaf could be seen as mild.
Ah, we are using different definitions of treason. Just mentally replace any of my mentions of treason with "disloyalty to the state". No extreme modifier included.

[X] Action Plan: Squeezing More Out of the Orange
WC: 357
  • Make camp in sky towers. Rest.
  • Check with Naruto before doing the following.
    • If he's adamantly against, or thinks that this wouldn't leave enough time to do the clearing mission:
      • Go to Tanzaku Gai and spend some days finishing the mission up.
    • Otherwise incorporate any feedback to make this as minimally treasonous as possible.
  • Next day take a couple day detour north to Iron.
    • On the way check out the Rift site.
      • Take adequate preparations if its somehow not closed (Ex: explosives, shadow clones with Earth domes, clones ready to Substitute with you.)
      • Spend 1 FP to invoke "The Thinness of Reality" to try to glean any information of an eldritch-dimensional-ish nature about the site.
        • Write down any observations.
    • Attempt to track down and/or gather info on the following in Yuni
      • Iron-based yakuza groups: Yamada Group?
      • Remnants of Orochimaru's med-nin organizations.
      • Missing-nin remnants of the Liberators.
    • Methods:
      • Ask Hashimoto (Jiraiya's old medic friend) if she knows or has heard anything.
      • Slink around bars asking bartenders about any hearsay. Tip generously and extravagantly, they'll cough up the info.
      • Locate any yakuza-run gambling dens to meet with them later using a similar strategy as the one done during the exams.
  • Meet with any parties you find.
    • Precautions:
      • Everyone wears Banshee Slayers. Sleight of Hand to put some easily dropprable Earbuster seals (attach them to playing cards or thin wooden slits) up your sleeve. Give some to Akane too.
      • Naruto horde and Kagome ready to burst through the building to destroy everyone in sight if Earbusters go off.
        • Inform any parties of this if they begin to get hostile.
      • Akane is with you.
    • Inform them we would like to start a business relationship.
      • Yakuza: A longer term relationship between us might be quite profitable.
      • Orochimaru's Organization: We are also interested in potentially esoteric medical research. (Hint that we possess a large amount of Orochimaru's old research.)
      • Missing-nin: Officially this isn't happening. Unofficially, we're putting you on retainer -- surviving without a support network is quite tough-- as deniable assets (hand them a pile of money).
    • Ask them to:
      • Yakuza: Send a lieutenant and accompanying contingent to Tanzaku Gai to meet with us in a month.
      • Orochimaru's Organization: Send a Level 3+ researcher and accompanying contingent to Tanzaku Gai to meet with us in a month.
      • Missing-nin: Meet us in Tanzaku Gai in a month. Lay low, and do nothing illegal until then. We'll find you.

With compromised agents, this is asking us to get ambushed by enemy ninja and start world war four.

Why are we looking for Orochimaru's network in Iron? Didn't Naruto say the Liberator plot was a Mist false flag, not an Orochimaru plot?

The Liberator wasn't Orochimaru, but I believe one of his Pyramid Schemes was name-dropped while Mari was in there, and thats what led to J suspecting it was Oro in the first place. Was it not?

Not voting for the new plan. Lack of uplift focus and guerrilla engineering.
I'm sorry to hear that. Could you think of any 40-50 word count additions to the end that might change your mind?

It's the fundamental difference between wanting new concrete recipe and building bigger bombs.

Last action plan was a focus on the former rather than the latter. Also, salt salterns and less risk taking.

Alright, I'll just quit trying to convince you to vote for any interesting non-infrastructure related things I suppose?

Yes? My impression was that his scheme was used as a red herring by the Mist higher-ups involved.
"Sorry I can't be more help," the ninja told Noburi, "but I'm not supposed to talk about what's inside the fortress. I mean, it's where the Liberator and his elite advisers and the Big Four and the Brotherhood of the– ah, anyway, you can see why we'd be in a lot of trouble if someone managed to get their hands on that sort of info, especially while the New Samurai Army's still in training."
"Ick. Thanks for that mental image, Yumi. I'll be taking that with me to my grave. Maybe I should just go find one of those Brotherhood guys and get them to give me a free lobotomy now."

The woman's voice deepened and took on a distant, faux-mystical quality. "We of the Brotherhood of the Sacred Immortal Eight-Headed Serpent have one purpose and one purpose only, and that purpose is not to lift a finger to help our allies or to learn the very basics of social interaction. Now begone, mere mortal, before we harvest you for materials."

Seems like it:

"You removed Mist from Noodle and Iron, delaying the war. Then you gave them Hot Springs, instantly polarising the continent and confining the Mist-centred faction to fighting on a single front. You positioned yourself to gain Jiraiya's attention, then earned his trust despite eliminating one of his agents. You scouted Leaf and engaged with its key clans, then forced Jiraiya to ignore his own plans for you and allow you to leave. Now, having set the timing for the war, you return at the last moment with the skywalkers, ensuring Leaf's victory and an elite position for yourselves within the victorious regime. And your very next step? To negotiate with the logistics experts whose support would take you further towards your ultimate objective than any other clan's.

Even Shikaku told us that it was Mist and not Oro.

I suppose that could be the case. Still, if that is the case then either Naruto will know or we won't find anything. I was under the impression they just happened to be around using the Liberator camp as a recruitment grounds.

That's talking about the Liberator in general though.

That's a lot of power they'd have to be bringing in order to get lumped in the same meeting rooms as the Liberator and his advisors and the Big Four (i.e., the major players in the operation). I don't see it likely, unless Orochimaru was personally involved in the plot.

This plan has 3 good scenes in it and hopefully shouldn't overburden Vel. Revivification is my own personal plug, everything else is relatively content neutral. Looking for ideas on how to clean water easily, or requests for a 4th scene that mostly stays on track with the mission and the south beaches.

[X] Action Plan: Incremental Progress
Word Count: 227
  • Take rest tonight in skytowers.
    • Apologize to Naruto for getting in his face earlier. We have great respect for him. As we're sure he knows, you act more pointedly when your loved ones are in danger.
    • Think: Would Noburi or Kabuto like to have any chakra beasts from Swamp? Collect any samples before leaving.
      • Revivification research: Are there any chakra beasts with immense regenerative capacity? If so, get them just barely dead and sealed in a storage scroll (For further research).
  • Head to Tanzaku Gai to complete the mission
    • During the journey and mission, do Guerilla Civil Engineering
      • Fortify villages; clear land; build bridges, dams, and tunnels.
      • Resolve disputes
      • Set up systems to provide clean water (???)
      • Use woodchip macerators to create insulation for houses.
      • Major goal: show Naruto the plight of civilians
        • No need to be heavy handed or exaggerate. Ordinary human empathy for suffering should be enough.
        • Show that both life is terrible outside of villages and that ninja have a huge capacity to help fix things.
        • This is why we want Uplift.
  • Once the mission is done, if there's enough time, head south to the coast
    • Use MEW to wall off some sections of ocean.
    • Freeze with EM.
    • Boil leftover brine.
    • Make as much ice as possible and collect as much salt as possible.
    • Hang out on the beach, drink hot chocolate, and tell stories

Can someone write a reference list for the different things we want to do on this trip? I'm having trouble keeping track.
  • Initial plan:
    1. Kill the chakra beasts.
    2. Test SINs.
    3. Start the salt & ice businesses. Build salterns. Make and gather ice.
    4. Finish the acquisition of land for clearing.
    5. Establish new contracts, business and otherwise. Attempt to re-key remaining pieces of Jiraiya's network to us.
    6. Conduct guerrilla civil engineering.
  • Additions ([1], [2]):
    1. Focus on Tanzaku Gai in your search for contacts.
    2. Explore the Swamp of Death.
    3. Contact the Yakuza in Iron and/or Mist and/or Fire.
    4. Attempt to establish a working relationship with Orochimaru's beheaded (?) organization.
    5. Check the blademonsters rift.
So far, we've completed 0.5 of those.

[X] Action Plan: Incremental Progress

Did someone mention necromancy? :)
And chakra beast collecting? :) :)
