Why is extremely unfair? His point isn't that Mari is lying, but that she's saying the truth and said truth is basically his post.
It's not though, it's reaching at best. The children born of this deal will be trained to be a part of both the highest caste society has and elites even among the Uchiha as potential sharingan holders. They will quite literally be born into the greatest position you can be born in. By that same logic every political union of any kind between nobles and royalty in human history is slavery and rape. It's not like most of those women had a choice, it's not like most of their children weren't born specifically to be trained into a high level role in their house or nation.

The children the girls will mother will be the future leaders of their clan, that's not slavery no matter how you paint it.

I'd imagine that we'd still roll vs. their Deceit or whatever social skill they'd put up?

I repeat, do you realistically think any of them can out-social Uplift?

I'm sure we can beat them but there is a difference between knowing they are lying versus knowing why they are lying.

If Deceit handles both then that's great. But if it's only the former the situation quickly becomes awkward when some might insist on going through with the arrangement even if they desperately don't want to go through with it for personal reasons.

I like the idea, but am worried about the practicalities. Goketsu are not infinitely rich, we cannot support everyone. If we offer this to the Uchiha civilian population, then tomorrow it'll be the civilians of another Clan, and the day after that, the civilians of another two Clans.

I think this could be mostly mitigated by only bargaining with and through the clan heads. Based on the groveling in the last update I'd doubt any clan civilian would want to overstep their bounds by talking to another clan head instead of their own except in absolutely dire situations. And in those situations, don't we want to help them anyway due to Uplift? Basic PR should be enough to curtail this behavior, IMO.

I'm squicked our by mind raping these girls. When we have 3 years to actually get to know them. We can just verify consent the old fashion way. Also the Uchiha have no reason to not pick the girls most enthusiastic girls for the deal
But that's hard, clearly these people we've never met are completely terrified and we need to bring in a girl Hazo flirted with a couple times to break into their minds and prove their consent. That's totally the ethical thing to do here.

Semi-hypothetical question for the QMs: If we were under Infinite Tsukiyomi, or had a complete mental break, or were otherwise in an inescapable-from-the-inside illusion where our decisions would have no impact on the real world, would we still vote on things?

So, neat little idea I had on discord for a legal thing we could put into place that would synchronize well with our retainership plans: make it possible for a ninja to do a mission 'on behalf of' another ninja, with the money being distributed as if the other ninja was the one who did the mission.

This would synchronize well with our retainership plans because we could offer people like Nakano the ability to do missions on behalf of us, with the payout being split between us. This means that the mission would get the 50% bonus and the refund from the conditional payments as if Hazou did it, but Hazou can spend his time drawing seals instead.

More generally, this means that clan ninja are incentivized to make arrangements for clanless ninja to do missions on their behalf. The incentive could be a cut of the profits, access to clan resources like mentors, or whatever else people bargain things with. The clans get the same money as they would doing mission by themselves with less effort because they can just bargain with clanless to do missions for them, and clanless get a measure of power in that the clans have to present a deal fair enough for the clanless to agree.

I imagine there are still certain incentive structures that would oppose this paradigm, but I feel like most people would find it beneficial. Clan ninja get to stay home and train even more, and clanless get bargaining power and get to do missiosn that aren't the scraps left behind by the clan ninja.

Obviously not a thing to suggest right now, but once Asuma's the Hokage we could start talking about it with the rest of Team Uplift and figure out if it's a worthwhile proposal to advance our goals like elevating the social and economic standing of the clanless.

[x] Action Plan: Second Opinion, Please?
  • Regarding the Uchiha deal: We want to have a clan meeting discussing it (including Naruto -- who will be the clan head at the time the deal takes effect). We also want to discuss it directly with Uchiha Sasuke. Both meetings should happen before any decisions are made. No agreement, tentative or otherwise should be given until this thing is thouroughly examined from every angle.
    • The Mari situation:
      • Thoughts:
        • TLitF's exact mechanics and her eye color changing appear to be related. Whenever she's used TLitF in the past, her eyes changed (grey to blue to green).
        • Since her 'recovery', her eyes've changed color rapidly: green to brown to purple to green.
        • TLitF's 'price' has been implied to negatively affect her mind. Could it be related to her recovery?
      • Tomorrow morning, discuss with Noburi & Akane (high-security room).
        • Akane: What happened in Leaf while we were gone? Anything related to Mari?
        • Fill them in fully, including our thoughts and private conversations with Mari.
          • Note: TLitF might get us killbox'd. Don't spread the information around.
        • Ask their thoughts. Surely she isn't acting against our interests, but you're worried she's running some self-sacrificial ploy...unless TLitF makes her temporarily sociopathic? You're unsure; did she act a bit off after Tea?
    • Fill Akane in on land-clearing, as per our note.
      • Include discussion on finding buyers; ways to improve the land, such as irrigation; as well as possible profits, like from chakra monster parts and lumber.
      • Ask her to offer Tsunade ~25% profit if she'll help with legal/political problems.
    • Send invitations for later this week:
      • Shikamaru: Discuss Nara rebuilding/construction assistance.
      • Team Nakano & Jinno: Offer them retainership.
    • Check on the civilians.

I haven't read all of the pages of discussion, so I'm not sure whether I'm just flogging a dead horse, but I would like to register a general disapproval of treating civilian women as second or third or fourth class and "this lopsided deal is the best they can hope for." That said, I recognise that the Goketsu are not gods and have to "lift where they stand," as it were.

Just, is there some way to give the girls more ironclad protections? Particularly of their right to be involved in their children's lives. Also maybe some kind of expensive-but-not-ruinous exit clause if they should later change their minds about being brood mares? So all their incentives remain in place, we expect the deal to work out smoothly, but we don't literally or effectively own them if circumstances change.

Yes, this has been addressed. The leading plan mentions requirements of an escape clause for the women if needed, etc.

It's not like most of those women had a choice, it's not like most of their children weren't born specifically to be trained into a high level role in their house or nation.
Actually, yes, I would argue that. Three of the wives of Henry VIII had children who went on to rule England. They were still effectively his slaves, even if theirs was a luxurious slavery. Until he decided he was bored of them.

Sure but say a girl wants to be a mother with Hazō but doesn't want to be mind raped?
(This is not a comment on any particular aspect in any particular plan, just a thing I noticed on a skim)

Surely the answer there would be "that's nice, Hazou does not want to be a father with you, and consent is a team game"?

I think the argument is more this potentially gives a bunch of false negatives because "Literally reading your mind and sifting through memories" is a tad more invasive then "Do the squishy bits thing" depending on your perspective.

Naruto's and Sasuke's inputs are both valuable, though I wonder if you're looking for anything specific from them. If either gives a hard disagree, then that's enough grounds for a No for obvious reasons. But what if Sasuke gives a go-ahead and Naruto is ambivalent? Or if both give a strong approval, would you then be OK with it going forward? It's probably good to confirm your stance going in. I, for example, am generally OK with the deal if the following are addressed:

We have possible changes: How willing are the Uchiha to budge? What will it cost?
  1. An out for the girls that stop giving consent.
  2. An active role in raising the kids.

Perhaps this plan should add a sub-point that specifies Hazo's general thoughts to direct the conversation. Ex. "approval from Hazo conditional upon the following being addressed: (list subpoints)"?

@faflec I'd like it if you could add asking about slowing the tempo of the births. A pregnancy every year for 5 years isn't really a healthy and sustainable rate

And the entire Uchiha clan also had all of those things before Itachi massacred them.

Never count out any clan of cheating haxor eyes. If they produced one Itachi they could do it again even if it's an accident.

...Could we amend the deal so that we have the right to be the sensei of any new prodigies they spawn? Instilling Uplift ideals in Itachi 2.0 would certainly help put my mind at ease.

So we have the following points we'd like to have ironed out:
Mari's Deal Plan said:
  • Uchiha deal:
    • What's the fallout from our Leaf allies/Mist?
    • We have possible changes: How willing are the Uchiha to budge? What will it cost?
      1. An out for the girls that stop giving consent.
      2. An active role in raising the kids.
      3. Some way to keep IN in the Gouketsu.
  • We're tentatively in agreement, but want a clan meeting to discuss this.

Specifically relevant to your point is "An active role in raising the kids." I don't see any kid that Hazou had an active role in raising not being at least moderately Uplift aligned, and probably not a crazy axe murderer.

We're not giving up influence, as we don't have it yet. We're about to buy it, and I, for one, think that the price is too high.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your view here, but unless I'm mistaken you're pushing for spreading out the price between us and ISC at which point... the price is the same for the women whether they're spread out between four clans or one.

[X] Action Plan: Mari's Deal

Looks like my plan isn't taking off, so I'll go with the more verbose version with slight differences.
