Going all-in on stealing the Snake scroll seems like exactly the sort of thing that might have negative political repercussions. I honestly think we have better things to do with our time.
I also just fundamentally don't believe that anyone with the power to let us have the scroll will buy that an extremely open-ended order to "save the world" means we get to have the scroll.

Yeah, loyalty to Jiraiya, not the missing-nin who've only been here a few months. And that's assuming that everyone we have to convince along the way is personally loyal to Jiraiya, which is really not a given.
I don't think getting a hold of the scroll is inherently unworkable, I just think that a) this plan will not work and b) the blowback for doing so from Hiashi's camp - painting us as taking advantage of the chaos to take loot, which we are - outweighs the benefit of getting the scroll right now.
If people are really, really committed to doing so, we could maybe paint it as making sure Orochimaru is really dead, and not just trapped in some snake-shaped phylactery somewhere, by performing a reverse-summoning on him - with a resident summoner on-hand, we're clearly the experts on such matters.

In this case i can't help but ask, what if she's not? Because this seems something that actually needs Mari to work.
The plan is actually a very good one, so it would be a pity if it fails because Mari wasn't around and we just decided to charge in...or Hiashi uses the fact we tried(And failed)to steal a summoning scroll to make all the Clan neutral go against us or worse.

I really, really don't think we should just be marching up to try and take the Snake scroll. I don't just think it's a waste of time in a period where we need to be doing other things, I don't just think it's not going to work (and I really, really don't think it will). I think that even making the attempt will be handing our opponents serious political ammunition to paint us as opportunistic thieves, taking advantage of Konoha's recent tragic losses to try and steal an important military asset, just as might be expected of filthy missing-nin, etc. etc.
Like, holy shit, we're taking something nice our beloved hero father said to us in his will to try and justify taking something that no reasonable reading of such would claim is ours. That looks terrible even before everything else!

Consider:
Our allies won't likely be seeing this Scroll. At worst, it will be used as a bargaining chip for Hiashi to grease the wheels for his election, which spells DOOM for us. With us, they at least get some sort of benefit here in that we are more amicable towards doing stuff for them, so increasing our own power does help them.
Our enemies will be salty no matter what we do.
Neutral folks are the problematic ones. I think we could make sufficient concessions to the Aburame and the Uchiha that this would be overlooked. We could even promise them the scroll passes to them after Hazou's death (minimum period of 10 years, no assassinations please!) which could swing them to our side.
