Hazou: "I will finish what you started"
Jiraiya, yelling at Nagato and shaking him in the afterlife: "YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID?"
NAGATO: Perhaps I have treated you too harshly
HAZOU: *bewildered*
JIRAIYA: *silent, internal screaming*

KAGOME: *to himself* Welp, time to blow it up.
NOBURI: Blow... what up, exactly?
KAGOME: "Yes."

"We used the Pein to destroy the pain."

Edit: Wait, does Mari know that we're planning on bringing him back? I mean, she might just dismiss it as Hazou's grieving process, but... well, Hazou's also done the impossible before.

I don't remember Hazou ever bringing it up with everyone else, although he presumably talked about returning from the ?afterlife? when they retrieved the porc scroll, so he may have brought it up then.

What experiments can we run? We know that the afterlife exists, and that it's a physical plane (or quasi-physical, if we assume that Jashin was involved as a deity/Outer Entity that we can enter without dying instantly --unlike the Out which is antithetical to human life, much in the same way that the void of space is. But we don't really know anything about inter-planar/path(?) travel. Short of reading another summoning scroll --which the QMs have heavily implied would kill Hazou --I'm not sure what we could do.

Maybe we could have Hazou take an arbitrary amount of levels in Technique Crafting/Hacking (as trained by Mari or Noda, or both) and then study the mechanics of the Summoning/Reverse-Summoning Technique? First with the Dogs and then again with Hazou's Shadow Clones to gather yet more data points (Hazou-Clone to the Dogs, then experiments with Hazou just repeatedly summoning Hazou-Clone to observe how/why it happens)? We could then cross-reference all of that with Hazou's sealing knowledge (with Kagome lending his considerable amount of sealing knowledge as a supplement) and his instinctual grasp of the Out that seems to (occasionally) beat out even Scary-Old-for-a-Sealmaster-Kagome?

(I view Hazou's grasp of sealing to be more instinctual than Kagome's more sanitized, standardized approach. Kagome is like a pianist who learned the scales, rhythms, etc and uses that well-earned knowledge to craft incredible symphonies. I view Hazou's grasp of sealing to be more like an art form. To exaggerate Hazou's like a piano prodigy whose creativity lends itself to working outside of the traditional, well-established forms that have centuries' of trial-and-error behind them. Hazou's crafts masterworks and takes traditional methods and twisting them in knots to create impossible works of art.)

Hazou shouldn't be leading this project. Oro should.

What we should be doing is convincing other researchers to join in, stealing relevant research from other villages, and letting people examine us to try to detect whatever "I went to the afterlife dimension" data they can scan from our body.

In the discord, I discussed a paragraph I'd read at the beginning of the story, the second time the gang encounters Jiraiya. He doesn't give much insight into Oro's mind, but claims he "decided it was easier not to care about people". This leads me to believe he would not help us resurrect Jiraiya, not because he doesn't care, but because he does, and might even oppose attempts to bring Jiraiya back if he's determined not to have people he cares about.

Also good luck convincing the Hivemind to let us interact with Oro in any way lmaooooooooo

...Then Jiraiya's not going to be alive until the epilogue, because we're not even close to being able to approach Orochimaru on equal footing, and it'll take a while to bring Jiraiya back from the dead --and even then, the cost of doing so might be too high (something something human alchemy something something disarmed).

Actually we aren't really that far away from being able to handle them. With Noburi's ability to transfer excess chakra we can have enough to summon Cannai or one of the other bosses. That would potentially put several s-rank combatants in our pocket for any meeting

You think Hazou — by which I mean the better social specs from the hivemind — (with Mari/Ami backup, Kei/Nara analysis, and sufficient reseources and preptime to get whatever else might be beneficial to tip the odds for that most vital conversation) can't convince Oro to give in to his desire to see Jiraiya again?

Oh ye of little faith.

If we could approach him on even footing, we should declare ourselves the project leader. But we don't need to. Oro is quite possibly the most predictable entity in all of Marked for Death. He's an approximating-purely-rational agent with a known utility function. What more could you want?

Orochimaru would likely have developed a counter to Boss Summons by now, even if it's only his Boss Summon... Although, a Kijuu fight between a giant HP-style Basilisk and a giant Magical Wolf/Dog does sound tempting...

An intact Hippocratic Oath... although, I'd totally read an Omake that styled Orochimaru as MfD's version of Dr. Gregory House from House M.D.

Edit: the theme would be "Why Tsunade Banned Orochimaru from Working in her Hospital"

See this is just faulty logic in my opinion. You have predisposed that nothing we can do will matter. But we know that a boss summon is a legitimate threat to Naruto. Jiraiya told us that Naruto could win against him. Orochimaru is on the same level as Jiraiya. So if we have a meeting with Orochimaru and have three or more boss summons on deck we will have enough force to make it a discussion between equals.

(Assuming the boss summons both gave a contract and didn't get pissed for instigating a fight with Oro) Oro would just leave or even let himself die and come back later to kill us for interrupting his work. Raw power means jack dick to orochimaru, we need cheese to cheat ourselves a victory

Fine this is still a solvable problem. We have every seal that Jiraiya ever researched. Somewhere in there is a counter against Orochimaru. We just grind out some research, get the boss summons and then we can meet with him on even footing

I'll admit that I don't think it's possible. Hazou's social stats aren't very high, which means that even a perfectly crafted plan might not be implemented as planned. Besides, Orochimaru isn't particularly predisposed towards being swayed by grand speeches or clever rhetoric. Like Ami said, the best way to survive is to make him bored.

And Hazou's not strong enough to tank Orochimaru's aura, which is also a non-starter. I mean, Orochimaru survived against Pain, when none of the other "God's" in that battle did. Besides, the QMs have flat out said that if Orochimaru wants Hazou dead, il happen.

And I've already spoken at length about why Orochimaru isn't the subtle type.

1: yes
2: if we could and Oro realizes such, he would get rid of us
