There are probably ways he could help without risk to himself. I think the major problem is on Jiraiya's end. He can't have people knowing that he brought Orochimaru in from the cold. Politically it would be too hard to explain. Orochimaru is practically radioactive.why would Orchimaru want to risk getting killed in the assault? He's bought his way back into leaf by giving Jiraiya the location
I don't think it would be, actually. There are probably ways he could help without risk to himself. I think the major problem is on Jiraiya's end. Reminder: We literally know nothing factual about Orochimaru's past and whether or not he slices up people and thats why Leaf made him a missing nin, or if he just got tired of murdering people on missions and all his friends dying like flies all the time and decided he would just peace out of Leaf and thats why hes a missing nin.
That's not correct. We know he did things that disgusted even Jiraiya.Reminder: We literally know nothing factual about Orochimaru's past and whether or not he slices up people and thats why Leaf made him a missing nin, or if he just got tired of murdering people on missions and all his friends dying like flies all the time and decided he would just peace out of Leaf and thats why hes a missing nin.
If he is known to have done unforgiveable things it might not matter. It's like getting useful intelligence from a Nazi. It's nice to have the intelligence, but that doesn't absolve them of war crimes.I don't think it would be, actually.
Orochimaru is a large part of why Leaf's getting their jinchuuriki back (in the world in which they do so, anyway). It would be easy to spin as a long-term infiltration mission on O's part.
"Disgusted" is not the word choice I would use and IIRC its not accurate:we know that they had a falling out and that his mental state beforehand was pretty fucked up and that Orochimaru "decided it was easier to stop caring about people".That's not correct. We know he did things that disgusted even Jiraiya.
There was more than that, but I can't recall what scene it was in. @faflec, could you help? I'm remembering Jiraiya having some comment about the things Orochimaru did to the effect that they were unspeakable."Disgusted" is not the word choice I would use and IIRC its not accurate:we know that they had a falling out and that his mental state beforehand was pretty fucked up and that Orochimaru "decided it was easier to stop caring about people".

In event, I don't think there was time before the strike had to happen to get people to Leaf and back. The strikeforce is going with the assets they can get within a couple days.
It was quite recent. One of the chapters where Jiraiya is talking about things to the kids.I read MfD at least twice, I don't remember anything like that despite noting down summaries of chapters.
Orochimaru's motivations are part of the quests big mysteries as far as the playerbase is concerned. That the only thing that gets brought up about him are : the one reference right after "Let the bodies hit the floor" , the mednin stuff, our clan compound, and the recent mentions is part of the reason why hes so interesting: we know nothing about his motivations. There was more than that, but I can't recall what scene it was in. @faflec, could you help? In event, I don't think there was time before the strike had to happen to get people to Leaf and back. The strikeforce is going with the assets they can get within a couple days because after that something really bad will happen. (The thing they're using the Jinchuuriki for, presumably.) Mist to Leaf is a twoish day trip.

Not unacceptable. Ami is everything to me, even still. She raised me. She saved me from the world. She sacrificed hours and days that could have hastened her meteoric rise to help a little girl who had earned nothing and deserved nothing. If Ami wishes to hurt me, then she may hurt me."
Hazō, Noburi and Jiraiya exchanged glances.
"Kid," Jiraiya said, "I was there with Orochimaru during his last days in Leaf, and that is still one of the most fucked-up things I've ever heard.
"Hazō, do the thing. You have carte blanche."
Thank you for looking. That doesn't feel like the sentence I'm remembering, but I confess that my memory could be inaccurate. It was something like Jiraiya stating to talk about Orochimaru's activities to the kids, but being too disgusted by what he'd done to even say the specifics.Orochimaru's motivations are part of the quests big mysteries as far as the playerbase is concerned. The Leaf strikeforce is being assembled by Shikaku on short notice after a Sand messenger brings him the news of Gaara's kidnapping, and this informs the context of who'll they'll be bringing with them.
I find it decently likely Shikaku knows about Orochimaru, but I also think that Shikaku bringing Orochimaru into the squad would involve quite a few hurdles:
So it's not totally against Orochimaru being there, he's still an S-ranker which means he's got a lot of firepower to add, but I can easily see Shikaku deciding the other way.
- Getting Orochimaru to agree. Might not be a problem, but also might. Orochimaru might demand concessions.
- Getting everyone else to accept it. Most of the rest of the strike force probably don't know Orochimaru was there, and to suddenly hear that a reviled missing-nin S-ranker is now your teammate is bound to cause problems.
- Team cohesion. Everyone's going to be watching out for Orochimaru to betray them, and plotting how to strike back in turn. These machinations detract from the strike force's overall ability to coordinate properly.
