Oh, there's a thing I forgot to respond to:

There scores in the swamp and merchant events can not exceed our total. We where in first place at that time
You scored first place in the 3rd event but were mediocre in the second. When Keiko said that you led the exams she was stretching the truth a bit on the assumption that no one would know the exact scores.

You know, a non-generous person might say the team did mediocre to poor when on their own, but really well when victory was handed to them by the yakuza/pangolins/Shikamaru.

Oh well, a win's a win, and anyone who tells you they're a self-made man is probably discounting all the times someone bailed their ass out.

*Looks sadly into rainy landscape*

If only it were merely that bad

Subtle.

NUMBER OF NINJA REMAINING PER COUNTRY
  • Wolf, 2
  • Sky, 1
  • Mist, 12, including Team Downfall
  • Hot Spring, 3
  • Cloud, 10
  • Frost, 4
  • Leaf, 10, consisting of Gouketsu, Kurenai, Asuma, and one older Leaf contestant
  • River, 1
  • Sand, 8
  • Rock, 9
  • Grass, 2
  • Waterfall, 4
  • Rice, 1
  • Fang, 2
  • Claw, 3

But nobody seems to be from Rain in this group?

I'm not suggesting there's Rain ninja. I'm suggesting that the situation where we *only* have to deal with Team Hotsprings is extremely optimistic.

I am now fully expecting a menagerie of characters from Waterfall, Hotsprings, Kurenai (perhaps sans Kiba) and maybe even 1-2 from Kongou or Chinin or something along with Team Asuma and us in the finals.

(I'm not going to post piles of math to this effect like earlier. Needless to say, I am now very doubtful of the viability of some of the estimates used earlier.)

Edit: Also IMO we would have done pretty great on paper if Mist hadn't gone out of their way to absolutely fuck us over in Event 3(scoring) and Event 4 (disguise) .

Yeah, I've met people like that. Were I in Hazō's shoes and someone said that, my response would be "Do you think that those people appeared out of nowhere for no reason and then randomly decided to help us? No. Those people were on the scene because we arranged things that way, and they helped us because we convinced them to."

"Oh really?" sneered the imaginary interlocutor. "What about Shikamaru? You didn't bring him there, or do anything to convince him."

"The hell we didn't," said Hazō/I. "We arranged to be brought into Leaf. We arranged to be on good terms with him and his Clan. We were in his orbit exactly because we chose to be there. As to why he helped us: he knew that we were going to crush all the other red teams and put them in someone's cells. He wanted to make sure that it was his cells, and he wanted to make sure that he could use our resources to do the same thing next round. In point of fact, we didn't need to go with his plan. We could have spread the prisoners out through the other three sets of cells and then not given him the seals or pangolins in round two. We went along because doing so got us more points and had positive political benefits."

"Oh," said the imaginary interlocutor. "That's actually a really good point. I guess I was wrong and you guys did have a lot of agency."

And then the imaginary interlocutor went and jumped in a lake as penance for his obnoxiousness.

Shikamaru cooperating with us demonstrates why Leaf put so much emphasis on teamwork. It also shows why Hinata's decision not to cooperate with us is a poor one. Beside, cheating and exploiting every advantage you have is the whole point of the chūnin exam.

@OliWhail @eaglejarl @Velorien

From what I can see, one or more of you spent some time organizing the Informational tab.

Thanks! It looks a lot better compared to what it was. Much appreciated.

Hopefully in twenty years, Mist is all but part of the same nation.
I expect Noburi and Keiko to be mildly salty about the

"Torn from your families and forced to make life or death decisions on a daily basis for the better part of two years."

Thing.

We all know that it would otherwise be Yagura making decisions that would be detrimental to their lives, potentially leading to a Fourth Shinobi World War. Or in Hazō's case, some asshole would report him.

I dunno, we tried to put forth a decent argument on the "Clan ninja privelege" thing to them and they were like "Hazou what lol."

I dont think its a given that characters acting intelligently means they wont be impacted by emotional and other personal biases. Indeed, I would expect this to be the case.

Hope Hazou doesn't blurt out some incredibly important OPSEC to Hana when they do their catching up...
I will be just a bit upset if thats the case.

Not only did i bold+underline OPSEC in the general guidelines but I specifically put OPSEC sanitized in that part just to make sure.

Likewise with the "Jiraiya shit checks the Yakuza stuff" part and the "Naruto conversation is to be conducted with 1000% paranoia and OPSEC"

J likes new poisons. Mist probably knows a lot about exotic marine poisons. We should pick up some cone snails and chakra-pufferfish and the like before leaving. Even the rejects might be appreciated by the research hospital.

Not a very emotionally healthy attitude to take when talking to your mother, though. This isn't an Operation that needs Security.

I want to agree with you, but Hana is a jonin of a foreign power. Even if we're 99% sure she would burn Mist to the ground for Hazou, the situation is still a little messy and from our OOC perspective I'm not sure we understand the implications well enough to decide to not do OPSEC.

The fifth event is over! You win! With the help of your Goo Bombs and pangolins, ISC beat everyone and dumped all the red teams in your cells.

It is now about 6pm and the round has just ended. You are standing at the gate with Jiraiya (who is looking insufferably smug), the other Kage, and the various proctors. ISC turned in hours ago and are presumably back at the barracks. You are not confined to barracks and are free to move around the city normally.

For obvious reasons, the top 16 have not been formally announced yet, but all members of Uplift and ISC are confident that you’ve made it into the tournament.

@OliWhail has expressed interest in writing the afterparty from Round One, so that should come out sometime in the next few days as work and health and etc allow.

There will now be a month-long training break. Jiraiya's original plan was to give you a day for all of you to decompress and for Hazō to talk with Hana, then send you home so that you could train with some senior Leaf ninja. He is willing to let you stay on for up to a week if you want to and have a good reason.

Vote time!

Default option: You go back to the barracks and go to sleep. You have the following 24 hours to relax, visit Hana, etc, and then you leave for Leaf. Hana will be serving as Mist's ambassador-in-residence to Leaf; she may go with you or she may follow after; you aren't sure of the exact plan. Once back in Leaf you will train in the core skills: Alertness, Chakra Reserves, Taijutsu, Water Whip, Ranged Weapons, in whatever order the QMs think is most advantageous. We timeskip all of that and resume at the start of the tournament.

There will be three votes going:

Vote: Stay in Mist or go directly back to Leaf? (Format: "[] (mist) (Stay | Go)")

Vote: Training plan. (Format: "[] (train) Plan title")

Vote: Other activities. (Format "[] Plan title")

Voting closes 12pm London Time on Wednesday, August 22, 2018.

XP AWARD: 4

Bonus XP: 3 for making the badass speech

FP AWARD: 1

EDIT:
Despite Hazō's slander, Touma is actually quite good at taijutsu. Hazō just needed something to bait him.

I'd prefer if these notes are in the original threadmark, for consistency's sake. Maybe in a spoiler there.

People in reader mode won't see this plot relevant information if it's in a seperate post.
