I'm not a voting member of this thread, but I did have an idea for the hivemind to consider. Send clones out right now. Keep sending groups periodically.

The best case scenario is that any idiots arrayed against you will tip their hand destroying the clones. The worst case is it should be cheap and won't interfere with any other plans. An unreasonably good scenario is the other ninja let their guard down, allowing the real group to go further before being interfered with.

The only information it reveals is that you aren't all dead and are capable of making clones. They knew that anyway.

Here is the description from chapter 159:

This whole area is much more of a marsh than a forest. There are patches of cover here and there, but to move between them you often have to cross big swathes of open terrain. Coming out of a tunnel in cover will be very tricky... Neji's vision might be able to manage it, if he can really straight up see through earth, but that's literally the only thing that can do it. Even Living Roots won't tell you whether you're coming up in one of the patches of tall grass or in wide open land.

This seems to have been a big point of confusion in the thread, over and over. I keep seeing post after post acting like we're in a densely wooded forest. Take that discussion about setting the landscape on fire just a page or so back. I don't even think that's possible. A fire would quickly sputter out when it burned out its patch of vegetation and hit a big marsh area.

Edit: Here is a picture of the Florida Everglades, which one of QMs referenced. See something like this. There are big patches of trees, here and there. There are also bit areas of open water or lightly grassed flatland.

Sightlines vary from a few feet in the overgrown areas where there are bushes and tall (2.5m / 8') grasses, up to hundreds of yards in the more open areas. There are plenty of small islands that stick up enough not to be too swampy.
I find it difficult to believe that ninjas would want to hole up in wide-open terrain, instead of using camouflage to be in a hidden area. We also have the ability to choose how we surface, so we'd just show up in one of the many patches of cover.

In any case the point is moot: If a team has enough Alertness to notice Panashe if/when she surfaces we definitely aren't going in that direction. If they don't she can scout easily from a nearby patch of reeds or something.

Clones cost chakra. Like, 10CP worth of chakra. That's a lot when considering the issue of sustaining the clone-spread and if we can fight after using that much chakra.
Anyway here's an updated version of my plan.
Alright, here's a plan that:
  • Avoids fighting if at all possible.
  • Limits possible fighting from spilling over into "neutral" teams (i.e., teams that are nearby but aren't gunning for us specifically).
  • Maximizes Party Trick seal production.
[X] Action Plan: Last-Minute Escape
  • General:
    • Discuss everything with Team Goketsu, then with the group as a whole.
    • Make sure everyone is in agreement. Fix errors in plan.
  • Preparations:
    • Hazou continues to make Party Trick seals for personal use/trade.
    • Teams collectively decide now who gets how many seals.
      • Every individual gets 33 seals.
      • New seals made:
        • Gets added to the 9 remaining seals, and distributed evenly among the 12 people here.
      • Any remaining seals:
        • Divide them evenly among the 4 teams, and let individual teams decide who gets the extra seal(s).
        • If any seals remain after that (e.g., we have 3 seals remaining), have the team leaders draw straws or something similar.
    • Keiko summons Panashe. Panashe goes underground to scout the Ring of Death. As possible Neji and other high-Awareness individuals with underground sensing go with her.
      • Location/clustering of enemies (Where are enemy teams densely packed? Where are they really spread out? Are some teams allied based on how close they are?).
      • Alertness level (Are they able to spot Panashe/her squad?).
      • Security/traps (Are they using non-standard seals, like Force Walls? Do they have traps set up? How well-hidden are they? How much would they slow us down given our plan?).
      • Combat styles (Do they have characteristic signs of Taijutsu/Weapons? Do they appear to be ninjutsu users?).
      • Other (Chakra levels? Have they taken any Consequences/injuries?).
    • Everyone prepares relevant seals and (as appropriate) jutsu before we leave.
  • The Escape:
    • After 1.5-2.5 hours (exact time determined during discussion) we make our escape.
      • Direction of our escape is determined from the results of our scouting. We want to go through the path of least resistance, and then move towards the rendezvous point once we've escaped the Ring of Death.
      • Time of our escape is determined by how long we're expected to take to get to the rendezvous point, plus ~30 minutes. We want to arrive just after ~4:45PM.
    • Hazou (or Panashe/other allies, if they have an equivalent technique) uses Doton: Tunneling Excavation to make a tunnel under our Ring of Death, eliminating the need to slowly go through them.
      • Neji should have his Byakugan active to check enemies/traps.
      • The tunnel can be made during preparations if possible.
    • Once away from the Ring of Death we can decide (based on the situation) if we want to continue escaping from underground or aboveground.
      • Note: We want to discuss this during Preparations as well. This is a "based-on-the-situation" discussion.
        • Pros: Greater chances of escape without combat, doesn't use our seals (to fight/clear traps).
        • Cons: Riskier if enemies can affect us (collapsing the tunnel), uses chakra.
    • Notes on going aboveground
      • We are running at 100% normal speed and using chakra as appropriate to boost Athletics.
      • If/when we are chased engage only if necessary. Leave behind training explosives as shitty traps.
      • (Aboveground) We use explosive seals to clear the path in front of us. Neji/Awareness-from-underground individuals should direct specifics, as relevant.
    • Ultimate goal of escape is to evade threats and arrive at the rally point within 30min of the end time (5:15PM).
  • Contingency: Combat time! (Work In Progress)
    • Activate Banshee Slayers and Banshee seals.
    • KO enemies ASAP.
    • GTFO.

Ooh, I like this. Thanks. I note that you have one sentence cut off: "The Aburame's own movements along with the right pheremones might also allow for"...?

Also, IIRC the bugs actually live *inside* the Aburame, so there could be some higher-bandwidth information exchange when the bugs are hosted.

In other news, here are some pictures of swamps to show what sort of thing I'm thinking of when I write. Note that there's plenty of cover in most or all of those.

/me gets a bad feeling about this...

Here is a QM providing some pictures of the type of swamps he means.

Wait, you're talking about surfacing? Oh, that's...well, as you've said @Briefvoice Neji can see through rock (since Hinata could, and Neji>Hinata) and so should be able to direct us to a covered area once we surface. That way we are all prepared to bumrush it out of here.

During the Hot Springs incident the fire rolled 867 die, which is ~17 die. That's Special Jonin levels of die by estimates of that time. So yeah...I'd rather not.
Honestly, I thought that was suspect at the time, I just didn't bring anything up about it because it didn't amount to anything; do fires really burn through stuff at faster than 20 mph?

Honestly, any seal that requires precise alignment is trivial to deal with if we have Jiraiya's noisemakers and Banshee Slayers, though I wouldn't be surprised if a lesser variant worked more easily.
He opened his hand, and a sodden clump of paper fell to the ground.
We should remind Noburi not to hold on to active seals. Defence in depth is important, and throwing it to the other side of the large shield would be highly advised.

[x] Action Plan smash face

Our enemies want to commit suicide lets oblige them

  • Make sure Kei and Shikamaru approve everything
  • If Kei and shikamaru approve summon more pangolins for assault
  • Have Neji scout with Panache to find out how the ambush is laid out
    • If out numbered by a greater than 5/2 ratio abandon attacking and try to escape while riding pangolins
    • Throw fire log macerators and banshees to cover escape
  • Attack as soon as Neji reports back
    • Have Hazou make party trick seals until it is go time
  • Buff up and attack
    • Make sure everyone has banshee slayers
    • Equip TenTen with explosives
  • If Kei and Shikamaru approve summoning more pangolins don't try for suprise
  • If Kei and Shikamaru don't approve of summoning more pangolins try to sneak through underground
    • This avoids traps and has potential to surprise our enemies
  • Use burning log macerators and banshees to full effect.
    • Note burning log macerators are only to be used non leathly as area denial weapons.
    • Also require Kei and Shikamaru approval
      • Try to make sure enemies can't coordinate with both seals
  • After defeating enemies drain them of all chakra to replenish the team
  • steal any seals they have

added most of @Roomba and @faflec suggestions. left fire macerators in there but strictly for Area denial. Also made sure we got Kei's and Shikamaru's permission to use them

We could use one of these to get out, sending a bunch a kawarami up the royal road, henge'd into bandaged ninjas?
To clarify, the complex routes through the trap array are Shikamaru's replacement for the royal road, the very idea of which appalled him.

So did you have any details regarding any of the older questions? Not trying to be super pushy or anything, just asking for an update.
If in doubt, please repost. The thread goes by fast, and it's entirely possible that we could miss some questions.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail
@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail I think this is a full list of everything we "need" to know. Technically speaking we don't "need" it but I imagine there may be errors in our planning as a result.
  • MEW and Practice Brick: How much granite is produced when we use 1 cast of MEW? Does this increase with level or chakra expenditure? What about Practice Brick, is it always more efficient than MEW or does this depend on level?
  • Vacuum Step: Does Vacuum Step gain anything from leveling it?
  • Elemental Mastery: We've established that Hiding in Mist creates natural mist, and @Cariyaga's websearch suggests that changing temperature can counter this. Since we have access to EM and HiM, and a motive to check it (want to ensure we don't get affected by HiM-attacks), I'd like to check/ask if we've tested this, and what the results were.
  • 5SB: It's limited by volume, and that limit is based on the sealmaster's level, but we don't know how much.
  • Syrup Trap: I think we would very much like details on Syrup Trap, as Noburi has spent 22 levels worth on it and I'd hate for that XP to not be used for any incoming fight.
  • Pantokrator's Hammer: Same as above, but we've only spent 1 level's worth so it's not as important.
  • Keiko's 4 other Pangolins: I've made suggestions (below) but am unsure if the hivemind approves. May I ask if there are any obvious reasons for us to not have access to these pangolins?
    • Communications Pangolin: Must have Pangolin Telepathy jutsu for team/multi-team wide communication.
    • Artillery Pangolin: Specializes in long-ranged AOE, and should have non-lethal versions (e.g., electroshock-KO).
    • Defensive Pangolin: Wields multiple jutsu capable of protecting allies.
    • Buffing Pangolin: Uses ninjutsu (e.g., Defend the Log) to increase allied and/or decrease enemy skills.
  • Our 5th Pangolin jutsu: Some people have thrown around Defend the Log, but we don't have details of the jutsu ATM; nor on other jutsu like Accurate Snout.
Addendum to the above: If we detonated a stupid box/fire-log macerator could we expect death and/or permanent injury to result; and if so, what are the odds of that happening?
@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail How much force is needed to destroy a Force Wall barrier? I'm asking regarding the barrier that is formed, and not the seals that form the barrier?
@OliWhail responded to the last one with the below quote, but I wanted to double-check on that.
Iiiiiii don't actually know. I suspect the barrier itself stands up to explosives (at least, non-Kagome amounts) if you manage to keep the seals safe.

I am not saying we get the cream of the crop of the other competitors, we are looking for the loser teams who would be desperate enough to deal with us. We could bribe them to follow a plan in which they act as a distraction and henge into looking like the group of something. Anything to help draw off the main force of Mist Ambush Team so that we have better odds.

We could hide underground, leaving clones with instructions to remove the 5SB, set off exploding tags to demolish the fort, and then make a mad dash for the exit. And set off banshee/firelogs if attacked.

Then we just quietly sneak away while the chaos unfolds.

I argue that the clones would pop waaaay too quickly for the trick to actually work.

IIRC the range limit is 100 meters? We're... 1 mile away from from the exit, which means they could make it 1/16th of the way there.
