Poor Kagome.

We should do something nice for him. Can anyone think of any novel uses of explosive seals? Maybe some very small tweaks for them? Or upgraded sealing research precautions?

Silenced explosives. Boom! Squish!

Wrap a storage seal full of shrapnel or lamp oil around an explosive seal. Wrap a storage seal full of water around an explosive seal for a sublethal concussive grenade.

Explosive chainsword? He already figured out the multi-use axe. Some sort of impact-triggered flail?

Put multi-use explosive seals in barrels and make him a drum set?

Explosive stencils? Let him carve, "Kagome was here, you stinkers!", on anything he likes?

Carve his seals onto sheets of lead to make self-forging projectiles?

The pantograph project is likely to warrant MechApt expertise, and we're not leveling any. However, I am unsure if the investment in the pantograph will pay off in term of increased lethality. Forty percent of the team consists of sealmasters, after all.

If we perfect the pantograph, we could make twice the seals in the same time, or spend half of the time making the same amount of seals. It will also let Kagome-sensei write invisible ink seals.

It would allow anybody to make invisible seals. Again, unless we have a really compelling use for mini-seals, this is a technology best forgotten. Undermining our competitive advantage is dangerous.

It's Χ, not X. Is that too much?

It's visibly close enough to serve as a seed nucleus for stupid, and once enough stupid starts rolling you get a 2016. If nothing else, the need to counteract it is disruptive.

Or -- and this is just an idea -- friggin' nothing that looks like an X! This is what [jk] exists for, people.

Sigh.

Really honestly and truly not trying to be disruptive here. Was just a joke from Discord conversations.

FWIW someone would have to intentionally replace the character with an X after copy/pasting to do any damage. Not to mention, I've specifically railed against legitimate votes for joke plans myself on multiple occasions.

Honestly it's more than a little frustrating to be scapegoated for skirting around the taboo in jest and good faith by reason that it might incite or embolden bad faith attempts.

But hey, I get it. Post has been deleted and I will be taking a self imposed break from the thread until after the next update. My sincerest apologies if I've upset anyone. Particularly QMs -- again, not trying to be disruptive.

I don't think you should feel the need to do that. We're just rather ... tetchy about joke votes in general.

Also if we decide to go the hidden mountain as the basis of hidden heaven we would have an entirely new sealing tradition to bring into our think tank.

Also if we do go down this pass we should let kagome run wild with all the safety features he could imagine. In his giant floating seal research station of doom.

Doubtful he'd want to do sealing research up there when its position in the sky is dependent on seals to function.

Apparently I too should have used a [jk] tag. I wasn't actually upset -- believe me, if I'm actually upset I'll be way more clear.

In seriousness, the fake-X thing is cute, but in a trolling sort of way -- the only reason for it is to give people a brief scare and that's my schtick!

Stealin' my thunder, grumble, grumble.

Honestly I think that is a small risk. Other seal masters would have to think of it and the total number is low.

Also I feel like invisible ink seals are mostly valuable in not having your seals analyzed. Which means only orginal seals would be hidden. Most seal masters don't make original seals and if they do is no where near the rate we do.

Why is no else as excited as I am about the possibility of invisible ink seals? I mean, sure, it might not be as sexy as skywalkers, but it's just as important! :p

I'm just seeing marginal utility increase but nothing to exciting. Hopefully you can sell me on it

Any comment, criticism, and concern?

I am unsure if the breadcrumb I laid for Hazō will be enough for him to come up with the idea.

Since we presumably leveled Hazou's MechApt, I propose a simple project: the pantograph, an often-discussed project.
  • Why nobody came up with the idea.
    • Most sealmasters lack mechanical or geometrical inclination
    • Sealmasters' tool for inventing new things are mostly sealing.
    • The invention was non-obvious. The printing press was invented in 1440, but the pantograph was invented in 1603.
  • Source of inspiration and breadcrumbs:
    • Hazou wishing he has an extra set of an arms so he can draw more seals at the same time.
    • Hazou knowing that a machine existed in Konoha that printed books. He imagines it to be a series of arms.
    • Hazou learning from books about the concept of 'translating' a shape, and then hitting on the idea of keeping brushes at the same distance from each other.
    • Hazou noting that the arms bend when he draw.
  • Design:
    • Pantograph design in theory could be constructed IRL.
    • The coupling is a bit loose to allow for tilting.
    • A second pantograph must be incorporated to allow for tilting.
    • The pantograph do not need to scale the drawing smaller or larger, just that it duplicate the drawing.
    • The pantograph will not be adjustable. Less way to go wrong.
  • Impact:
    • Will allow sealing workshops to be more productive, maybe even end the notion of a sealing workshop.
    • Allow our team to be more lethal since they can produce any number of seals faster.
    • Another thing to trade with Jiraiya/Pangolin/Mountain-nin/etc.

Basically: It allows us to have actual opsec for our seals. Even if we leave them laying around, 99% of ninja won't be able to know that they're seals, much less what they're used for. This, if nothing else, is of immense value to Hazou and Kagome in allowing them to more freely use their unique seals.

I'm down with that. Still think the pantograph will not lead to hardly anyone figuring out invisible ink seals if we keep it on the dl.

So, sealing idea: temperature sensor.

If we could find a seal that can measure temperature or respond to heat as a trigger, we could in theory build temperature sensors without actually having to do the hard work of calibrating it.

The closest seal that can respond to something is the casino seal which responds to chakra molding, which means we can't really easily accomplish this feat.

Why do you think this would be so hard. Seems like a slight variation on casino seals so should be relatively easy after we master them.

Instead of interacting with weird chakra physics we are working with actual real works stuff:
