  • Discuss the Orochimaru situation with the team.
    • Hazou thinks that it's likely Orochimaru fled Leaf for the same reason we did -- to research in peace.
    • Hazou doesn't think that Orochimaru is likely to betray us at this point (prior to the Rift Assualt)
    • However, it makes sense to take some precautions. Go to the meeting with just a Hazou SC to minimize exposure to a potentially hostile Orochimaru?
      • Should we split the team to get into contact with Leaf sooner? Hazou favors Noburi (for runic preparations) and Yuno with him, and Mari to make contact with Leaf but composition is flexible.
    • Hazou also thinks it would be prudent to prepare a couple deadman switches giving Leaf/TU resources to learn Runecrafting in case Orochimaru decides to eliminate his only runecrafting peer.
      • He favors giving one to Kei/Kagome and setting up one in Dog. Should be sufficiently hardened resist Orochimaru torturing Hazou into compliance.
    • All of our Rift Assualt strategies require extra chakra from Leaf, how likely is it that Orochimaru is attempting this without drawing on them for support?
    • Kei, how likely do you think Orochimaru betraying us is? Both before we assualt the Rift and afterwards. Does the assessment change if he doesn't want to involve Leaf?
    • Noburi, can you ask the Toad Sages and Gamabunta if they'd be willing to avenge Jiriaya?
  • Research
    • Loop in just Kei
      • Intent: Asking for harm mitigation, not permission.
      • Kei, apologies, but our other ideas didn't pan out and we need to know if this is viable. We don't plan to inform anyone or complete research unless things are truely desperate.
      • Can you brainstorm ways to disguise the effect?
    • Spend one day no-prep yes-DoB researching Superchillers (referred to only as Project Twilight) and Kagome's Tears
      • Fully enclose the AoE of the prototype Superchiller with a Force Dome to prevent a storm from forming.
  • Misc
    • Attempt to Summon Cannai, Noburi on standby for immediate treatment.
    • Set up the Dead Man's switches discussed above.

A few thoughts:

Please keep Mari with Hazou. Oro knows that we have almost no intel(we thought he was still with Leaf), so unless we have someone with sky-high socials present, he can just feed us whatever story he likes.

Consider including a warning to Akatsuki about Orochimaru in our deadman switch. Oro *really* doesn't want that to happen, so it adds a lot of bite to the threat.

I don't expect you to change this, but I want to note that I'm unhappy doing the Superchiller+Force Dome thing here. we're kinda close to a hidden village, IIRC.
Also, I'm not sure what circumstances you're envisioning that would require it?

If Oro has shitty additional chakra supply and a valid reason for not contacting Leaf. If he thinks that doing full chakra lift from Leaf is a bad idea for some reason, if the Rift has 4 Akatsuki members hanging out there. Probably other situations too.

I think Oro can kidnap some chūnin to drain within a day or so, and may have done so pre-emptively. This almost certainly doesn't match up to what Leaf can offer, but would cover a dozen RERs or so.

(Also there's that canon? chapter where he has a team of minions who seem about spec-jonin strength, I wonder if they'll be showing up?)
(He also had biosealed creatures that were suitable for Noburi to drain one of the times we visited him in the basement, though I have doubts as to whether he could bring something like that with him when leaving Leaf.)

Regarding Orochimaru's attitude towards the threat of deadman switches, I note that he's made use of such tactics himself in the past, in an attempt to deter Kisame:

Oh! Not give them runes. Just warn them that Oro has rift-movers(and maybe other runes?) and is planning to attack.

Which is still a terrible outcome, sure. But that's how effective deadman switches often work. The point is that killing Hazou causes very bad outcomes. The result of this is a non-killed Hazou, and the bad outcomes averted.

(also the sly reader may notice that I just want to give Kei this part of the deadman. If she decides to not use it but lie and tell Hazou she did, all the better.)

Need like 350 chakra per RER2.0. Although if we used 1.0 we could use 2 for a dozen runes.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to be able to use primarily RER2.0 in any case:
- getting the blanks in place may be a hard problem depending on rulings on reverse-summoning weight
- they take so much substrate that depending on how BoC works we might be constrained by supply even with Oro available to make more
- they were a lot harder to make, so I'm not confident Hazō can infuse them while time-laddering down without risking a failure

Having a barrage of one RER2 and a bunch of 1.0s seems plausible though.
