EJ is on record stating that this will be a scene in and of itself. I'd like to ask after we've briefed Naruto on the Rift - we can emphasize that the work has been done almost exclusively by Kagome and that many of the key insights have been his, and then ask.

I'd like to go into more detail than simply 'ask for SC', too. This isn't a slam dunk. We need to actually prepare and provide an argument.

Yeah, I thought I mentioned that with the request to add. This is not something that we'll get for free, but we *do* need to start it as soon as possible. The more we procrastinate this the more sad Kagome would be.

Hm. Calligraphy 47 would cost us 225XP, and if we choose to go for PS 26 (another 646XP) we'll be over the stagnancy barrier by 117XP. If we chose to do PS + Calligraphy, we'd be 165XP below the stagnancy barrier.

Assuming we choose to level combat after these sequences of events, what would the goal be? As in, what would be sufficient to clear combat stagnancy barriers for you?
Are you asking for a build plan up to the 16k XP mark?

I actually think that this is the best time to ask. We'll appear authoritative, Naruto will want to do something, and even if he says he'll need to think about it, the framing is right and first impressions matter.

@faflec I'm going to fork and add asking back in - alternately, if you'll adopt the changes, I can just suggest some edits.

More of a "what combat stats should Hazou be aiming for, so that he can safely clear combat without getting Severes?".

EDIT:

Go ahead and suggest them, I don't mind one way or another since I have like 50 words or so.

Vague plan, linked in sig.

Strictly limited to ABs, though. I'm not plotting out X0s through X9s. Those are too mercurial, and subject to change. Half expect the playerbase to randomly decide to level UWBW to 40

For me personally, the goal is at least 5 points of Ath per 1k XP/combat unlock until Hazou's got a jonin dodge (Ath 59) and ideally decent Alertness and TJ as well (49/49 would be my preferred). This lets him start hitting well into the hundreds for a critical dodge.

59 + 7 (boost) + 13 (sub) + 11 (RRB) + 3x invoke = 111

If you factor in the extra ~36 points of difference in rolls he could take in stress/consequences he could quite plausibly survive an essie blitzing him for a round and then reverse summon (exceptions being things like Amaterasu or maybe Hidan's gimmick if it operates across paths.)

Once he's at that level I feel more comfortable doing things like visiting the dungeon Ami told us about and so on. The QMs have more or less said plot-relevant encounters are worth more for stagnancy. Relatedly, the most critical thing for me is that he's keeping pace with Kei and Noburi's strength in combat, so they can do things like the fire cave together without him getting wrecked.

I just want Ath 50, Alt 40.

Any X9s, in my opinion, can wait until we get past this point.

That'll already be ~300ish in-game days away (assuming 5xp on average).

49/49/59 is...a lot, IMO. If the primary goal is to survive an essie blitz, would 40/40/59 be acceptable instead? We keep the Athletics speed, which is what really matters when it comes down to not dying, and the Alertness/Taijutsu is more useful for fighting back (irrelevant against S-rankers). This way also saves us like 400XP which we can put into socials/sealing.

Unless I've missed something?

It is a lot, but in the context of "5 points per 1000 XP" that's only, at most, 284/1000.

Better than no investment certainly, but imo the primary goal is to be able to whip ass as needed, not just survive an essie blitz (though the latter certainly matters)

Who knows when we will need to fight more golems to get substrate or some similar scenario - this was my original complaint, we don't know what kinds of encounters Hazou will need to do in the future. What if we were in a fire cave where only TJ worked instead of only ninjutsu, what if the Dogs need Hazou to help fend off the Necromancer Dragon's undead army, what if etc etc

Levelling a support without going to X9 in the main feels a bit of a waste. Also, I see little reason for Hazou to level Alertness to 40 at this juncture - he is not beating jounin with it, and unless he were it confers zero benefit. Similarly, Taijutsu does not help his survivability at all, as Hazou wants to reverse summon round 1 in any fight until like 18k XP where he will have decent combat stats, and at that point he will likely fight with Runes/Seals rather than Taji anyway.

For these reasons I would rather ignore Alt and Taji and level Substitution 20 -> 40 as a support for Athletics 59, giving Hazou almost guaranteed survival against a lone Essie's blitz round.

There is no need for any more supports then either, social or otherwise, other than PS 30 once Athletics moves into the 50s, but PS was going there anyway on route to PS 31 Sealing 59.

Overall this saves thousands of XP for no loss of combat power. Once we are stronger we can get socials etc just fine, but doomsday clock is ticking.

  • [any other goodies players want to ask about.] (ping me)
Cure for wandering wits so we can recruit the Bear Summoner - ideally as part of a broader toolkit / reference text for central nervous system maintenance and repair which Oro could simply retrieve from some library in his basement and hand off to Tsunade, letting her figure out the details.
Area-effect sterilization or other surgery-related utilitarian seals, if he has any which would be similarly off-the-shelf.

what if the Dragons challenge Hazou to an UBW contest

Sorry, couldn't help myself. You aren't wrong that more levels would let us fight back against higher-level threats, but the threats we're going to be facing are either way out of our league (Akatsuki, Dragons) or are covered by the 40/40/59 statline (lower-level punks). The XP from those extra 9/9 levels would be better spent increasing our social skills or PS levels, IMO.

I mean, that amount of XP going into socials/pyramid to support them instead isn't gonna make too much of a dent against our big threats either IMO - best case is buying supports and getting Rapport to eff 40s or something. PS has a better argument there I'd think. But I'm more willing to hash that out as it gets closer, so long as we're committed to something along the lines of what I proposed before

(Callig -> 47, PS -> 20, Deceit -> 30, Ath -> ~43, PS -> 26)

Hm. Are you opposed to leveling PS to 10 first? It gets us the first +AB and if we're going to be negotiating with Orochimaru at any time in the near future I would very much want us to have the highest PS possible, at least in the short term.

We can level PS to 11 right now, now that you mention it...

Thanks, edits made below.

[X] Action Plan: Brief Naruto on Necromancy Options, Discuss Oro with Advisors
Word Count: (to be reduced)
  • Sanity-check with Mari/Kei.
  • Naruto:
    • Turn over Sasori's price.
      • Work with Kagome/Kei to pick the least-useful seals (that Sasori will accept).
    • Lay out the facts about Necromancy (Rift details, chakra drain, Seance, ect)
      • We've reinvented a lost sealing art known only to the Sage.
        • Request SC for Kagome to help us further our research.
    • We're currently racing the Akatsuki on who can resurrect high-value targets first.
      • Their goal is Pain, ours are Jiraya/Minato/Sartobi (and Akane). We both eventually want total control of the afterlife/resurrection.
      • For a Goketsu moonshot plan, we could resurrect Pain ourselves, and leverage the resulting life-debt to control the Akatsuki. (don't say this without advisor approval)
    • Options:
      • Move the rift, taking it for ourselves.
        • We can hope the Akatsuki think it closed naturally, or we can make/move a dangerous/useless rift in it's place.
        • We can then finish the necromancy project securely and discreetly, without opposition.
      • Close the rift permanently.
        • Faster and easier, but an absolute tragedy.
        • Preventing Pain's resurrection might not be worth this price. He might even be a stabling influence on the Akatsuki.(listen to our advisors!)
      • Alternatively, assassinate Sasori.
        • We could try this by sending him valuable Necromancy-synergistic seals with hidden traps.
          • Issue: if Sasori dies, the Akatsuki probably just kidnap Hazou.
    • Given the static nature of the rift, we might be able to attack them while they're delving it. If we can kill their rear guard and secure the site against reinforcements with primordial sealing, we can wipe out their chakraless expedition when it returns.
      • Guarantees the destruction of either Leaf or AMITY
      • We'd need a way to monitor the rift site without Essies noticing.
      • Even with Boss Rush, it's a super risky fight to pick
    • Akatsuki may also return to interrogate Hazou to make sure he isn't doing any more dimensionalism. We don't have good solutions. The best we've got are:
      • Attempt to circumvent it by having Hazou unavailable.
      • Work fast and hope they don't do it.
    • We might need to share Lithosealing with Orochimaru.
      • Run Naruto through the same risk/reward profile we discussed with Asuma, see if Naruto still approves it.
  • Orochimaru planning meeting (Mari/Kei)
    • We'll need to reveal lithosealing to Orochimaru eventually, due to the dragon war. While we're scared of the doomsday risk of empowering him further, we're considering selling it to him now, rather than having him force it out of us in a month or two or discover it independently.
      • What are your thoughts, in general?
      • If we do this, how should we conduct the meeting?
        • Is having Tsunade/Naruto looming behind us helpful or unhelpful?
        • Is involving Kabotu helpful or unhelpful?
      • What should we ask for? what will/wont Orochimaru be willing to give?
        • Personal training
        • Forbidden lore, for real this time, he has to share first.
        • A jutsu for making sealing substrate.
        • Cure for wandering wits, or broader toolkit / reference for central nervous system maintenance
        • Sterilization or other surgery-related utilitarian seals
        • [any other goodies players want to ask about.] (ping me)
        • Can either of you think of any options we missed?
  • Misc:
    • Cannai: Could you convince Kumafuwafuwa to help fight the Dragons?
    • Kei: Pandā is in Dog; could he be double-assigned as Shark ambassador and work through Dog?
      • Ask Cannai to make sure this is OK with him.
    • Noburi: we really don't want Yuno to register as a Jashinist. Can you talk her out of it? Would it be helpful or harmful for us to Order her not to?
    • Team YOUTH: You're welcome to continue delving, and Noburi will support you if you wish. BUT the tower has enough crystal at this time, and would support your return at present.
    • Tell Mari/Gaku to start doing all the Gemstone-sale things, if they haven't already.

Advocating for my fork:
  • Spends less time gaming out exactly how we could fight the Akatsuki, which Naruto and his advisors are better at anyways.
    • I think Naruto will already be biased towards fighting and don't want to encourage him.
  • Adds a second scene where we talk to Mari and Kei about the Orochimaru/related ideas the thread as been arguing over for weeks.
    • We really need to know their advice OOC when we vote in the Orochimaru deal, rather than just typing "sanity check".
  • Asks for Kagome Shadow clone
  • Tells Gaku/Mari to start doing gemstone sale stuff.(Offscreen)

Speaking as someone who just was arguing for raising Callig first, I think this is the right call.
