Rule 2: Don’t Be Hateful — Do not make insensitive remarks about genocide as a joke.
Man, Kakuzu is going to be so happy.
Kakuzu: *signs contract for finding Akane's killers* *giggles*
Everyone except him, except Hidan: *creeped out*
Kakuzu: this is the single most lucrative contract I have ever signed
Hidan: not that I care, but I've seen more zeroes in other contracts, what are you talking about?
Kakuzu: ryos per hour. *turns to Asuma* "Found'em, it was us, thanks for payment, kthxbye"

Alternate ending:
Kazuzu: "Based on your recent interests, may I interest you to set up a periodic payment for our deluxe 'totally deniably killing your own citizens' package? It comes with chain-of-murder attestation certificate included, so you don't need to pay extra to confirm that we killed them because you paid us to. Like in this case.
Asuma: : |
Kazuzu: *reads the room* "May I also interest you into our novel secrecy and discretion package?"

Alternate alternate ending:
Kazuzu: *signs contract, giggles* *suddenly turns very quiet* "Who... who am I really?" *takes a vacation to introspect and find himself on Konoha's dime*

Other:
Hazou: "Here's half payment upfront" *puts enormous gemstone on table*
Kazuzu: *vibrates* *kidnaps Hazou some weeks later* "effin' letting devaluation of a nicely medium of wealth storage happening my stitched ass" *starts killing everyone with knowledge of earthshaping*
Asuma: "May I interest you on our genocide pipeline?"

Edit: Genocide as a service, or GaaS, provided by liquefied gases. Get it? I'll show myself out.

If you're already going over 500, this might be worth including as well:
Hmm... This seems less like "a narrative", and more like something that's just correct? As in, all AMITY leaders are probably doing this sort of thing, and are expected to do this sort of thing; use the system to destroy their enemies to whichever extent it allows.

In other terms: this sounds like an argument that "Asuma calls in Akatsuki because of a dead chuunin" doesn't actually look that weird on priors; not something we have to actively invoke.
I think you should clarify that it will also refill from Noburi so Prime isn't running low if Hidan does any testing
Good idea, done.

  • Declare: You've made an SC on the way. He'll optimize the below with Mari, then pop.

Ami is also in town, has more experience herding Akatsuki, and more current knowledge of their general affairs.
Also, I can't recall if we've talked with Mari about A-day(or alternatives), but Ami will know immediately that distracting them is a top goal, and have already been thinking about the problem.

[x] Action Plan: All You Billiard Balls
Great plan.

  • Time is of the essence. We know Mari is on the estate. Who knows where Ami is?
  • Time is of the essence, and Ami is not cleared for EM, which means our SC is going to need to have two conversations.
    • Alternatively, we'll need to create two SCs... Which means there'll be two instances during the conversation where Hazou momentarily becomes dizzy from clone sickness. One is already pushing it; two will definitely raise questions.
  • (I childishly don't want to ask her for help because we're in a "how many Akatsuki can you distract?" competition and I want to win.)

Kagome told us that we could explore other approaches for rift opening/closing/exploring. Here's a few that we could throw research days into and some possible veterancy chains:
  • Seal that detects storage seals around it
    • Could be followed by seal that detects rifts around it. Will probably be even more sensitive than chakrascope. Test near old sealing failure sites?
    • Followed by seal that detects summoning, both normal and reverse summoning. Idea here is to detect different types of rifts.
    • Finally have a seal that can give us a unique identifier for the pure lands as a dimension. I don't know how but we want a way to "aim" there.
  • Seal that interacts with storage seals around it.
    • If we can detect storage seals, we may be able to interact with them. Maybe autonomously open storage seals in the nearest "valid" space?
    • Maybe use SSA while summoning or reverse summoning to understand the mechanism better? No way this goes badly :V
    • Try opening a "rift" to a storage seal. We know the pure lands rift was opened by a reverse storage seal effect, we want to control that effect. Is it possible to control it, or do it in a non-sealing-failure way? Probably very dangerous.
  • Main idea is to combine the detection of the naraka path and the opening of the rift together. Possibly even harder than reopening the rift lol.
Anyways, some random musings. I know we'll be busy with the Akatsuki thing for the next few updates, just wanted to let these thoughts percolate while we do that.

Summoning training requirements
@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped How many people can you train in Summoning at once?

Based on what we've seen of it (like Hazou teaching Kagome) it seems like there is enough "Downtime" between instructor commentary that you could feasibly be training multiple people at once but on the other hand, it seems that at some point there would be too many students to keep up with.

Just throwing out a number, 3 seems like a reasonable amount to me. Jonin train teams in threes, Kagome was teaching 3 people Sealing at once (actually, it might have been 4...?) Etc.
As a full-time activity where the instructor does literally nothing else with their time, 3 is possible. 1 is standard for those with other responsibilities.

However, note that Takahashi trained Kei blind purely for lack of other options, and it's far from standard practice: without a scroll, you have nothing to attune to and no way to get internal feedback on whether you're performing the technique correctly until your first live run (where a failed interdimensional journey may mean death). This is the reason why summoners don't routinely have a heir pre-trained and ready to make a contract on the spot in the event of their sudden death.

Does this translate to mechanical penalties, like an increased XP cost for the stunt if you're learning it without a free scroll available?

I... am not sure that I agree with making a shadow clone. If we're buying FP because Hidan might make us have a fight, it seems a bit, y'know... against our interests to go into this low on chakra.

The current variant has the clone get filled up on chakra from Noburi, so that when it pops, we get a chakra refill as well. We're having our cake and eating it too.

XP AWARD: 21

Brevity XP: 6

Hazō wants to swap to using SSA on directional explosives and MS7+. However, despite the plan's claims, he is not yet done with the sixth seal in the chain. Additionally, he would like to do some prep days for Directional Explosives, as he has ZERO Fate Points and he thinks that he could fail the Calligraphy requirements on an awrul roll. He'll use 3 prep days (+6) on the directional explosives to make the roll reasonably safe on a -12.

3 days of research on the sixth jinchūriki chain seal:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 3 (IN) + 6 = 49
Hazō (Sealing): 50 - 3 = 47

Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 3 (IN) + 6 = 49
Hazō (Sealing): 50 + 0 = 50

Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 3 (IN) - 3 = 40
Hazō (Sealing): 50 + 3 = 53

He thinks he's right on the verge of finishing up, so he'll spend 1 more day of research on the chain, adding another prep day to directional explosives:

1 day of research on the sixth jinchūriki chain seal:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 3 (IN) - 3 = 40
Hazō (Sealing): 50 + 3 = 53

Hazō finishes the sixth jinchūriki chain seal! He'll start immediately on the seventh and pop his directional explosives roll:

Research on the seventh jinchūriki chain seal:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 3 (IN) - 6 = 37
Hazō (Sealing): 50 + 24 (SSA; sigh) + 0 = 74

Research on directional explosives:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 40 + 8 (prep) - 3 = 45
Hazō (Sealing): 50 + 24 (SSA; sigh) + 8 (prep) - 3 = 79

Hazō thinks he's around a third of the way through the seventh jinchūriki seal. He thinks he's nearly done with the directional explosives -- one more roll like that could finish it.
Again, this is a fairly complicated set-up. He has 19 blocks by default. On days 1-4, he spends 3 on sealing research. On day 5, he makes the roll with -5 blocks from safety margin and Consequences and -3 blocks from his sealing research. On day 6, he makes the roll with -5 blocks from safety margin and Consequences. This means his SX XP rates are: [1.6, 1.6, 1.6, 1.6, 1.1, 1.4], which averages to ~1.48, which corresponds to 31.1 SC XP.

SC XP added to sheets. The events of the chapter happened on Feb 7 in-game.

Updated in accordance with new XP. I strongly encourage everyone to vote for this, as it shows Kei that we're respecting her agency (something she's historically been touchy about). If we wait too long, she may yank away even more control of her character sheet.

I don't really get why the winning plan is so complicated. Kakuzu is a bounty hunter, and that's presumably on record. Extending the conversation to other things is, uh, maybe it will work, but it seems weird to call them over like this for a chat.

[x] Action Plan: A Killing KISS
  • This:
    • Offer Hidan the peppermint tea
    • We're offering a bounty for Akane's killer
      • We have Akane's blood, if Hidan can use it
    • Throw them a gem
      • Read the room
      • Try to overpay a bit (for S-rank tier bounties) but not unbelievably
      • Gem is upfront payment, show payments for finding and for executing
    • If it comes up:
      • We don't care if this is a proportionate use of resources
        • It's worth it to Hazō
      • If they want to know why Asuma went with it, ask Asuma
      • Run with what Asuma says; otherwise, as backup:
        • What's the point of AMITY if it's not enforced?
        • Hazō will spend his political capital as Hazō sees fit
        • The Hokage owes us
  • [After] Kagome conversation:
    • Aims: honesty, empathy, clarity
    • There are secrets both by Hazō's choice and by Asuma's
      • Kagome is not good enough at keeping secrets for all of them
      • Solutions presumably involve skilling up or avoiding visibility
      • To get Shadow Clone, we would need to convince Asuma
    • There are:
      • Political costs to asking things of Asuma
      • Unspecified time costs that might not make sense
    • Mari has final word on when we are ready to ask
    • We will need to ask Asuma what it would take to convince him
    • Otherwise the decision is his
I added another section since the first ended up so short.

We don't need to build the support for Kei since her pyramids are still broken.
Doesn't this break her pyramids even more? She has eight level 10-stats, and only seven level 20-stats. Increasing Deceit to a 20-level stat means that she now has seven level 10-stats and eight level 20-stats.

This is a hanging pyramid, which didn't exist previously.

This is a hanging pyramid, which didn't exist previously.

We are explicitly allowed to do this. The only current restriction is that we have to get Kei a fully balanced pyramid before we raise a new capstone

All such characters will be treated the same way. No stats will be lowered, but the character will not be allowed to raise up a new capstone (i.e. increase their maximum AB) until they are valid under the new pyramid rules.

For Akane and Kei, this means you cannot vote in a training plan that raises a stat to the 70s until they are valid under the new pyramid rule.

  1. You may not vote in a training plan for Akane and Kei that raises a stat to 70 until they're pyramid-valid. Nothing else has changed.
    1. Raising Resolve to 68 is permitted.
  2. You are not required to do anything to fix the pyramids, you just may not raise a stat to 70 until they are fixed. I expect that the pyramids will be fixed in order that stats can go up.
