It has never once been relevant in the span of the quest whether Hazou's seal scribing took 4 minutes or 7.
Now that Hazō is producing extraordinarily large quantities of storage and explosive seals for the Team Akane Seal Bank, it's now a relevant factor. Hazō has the Iron Nerve, which means that A) he can repeatedly attempt to draw a blank quickly and actually verify that he succeeded, and B) once he succeeds a single time, he can used the banked movements to draw that seal at the faster time every time going forward.

Hazō going to be regularly making thousands of these seals, and cutting even a minute off his drawing time would make a huge difference in the time commitment.
Jiraiya's answer was beating back the flood of Hazou-signature ideas, not specifically saying that every single one of them didn't yet exist.
He didn't?
"Let me stop you right there," Jiraiya said. "Those are all great ideas and would make us a fortune if we could do them.
This really read to us players as Jiraiya being unable to do research missions. How were we supposed to interpret it?
Selling explosives and storage seals, for instance, has already been established as a feature of the setting, yet Jiraiya did not explicitly stop and point out that Hazou's idea here had already been done.
This was addressed in chapter a little below the lines there I quoted, so it kinda was. We couldn't do that because we needed the licenses from the Merchant Council.

[X] Action Plan: Let's Run Those Numbers Again

@acidshill, the most compelling (IMO) piece of evidence is that the enemy ninja went so far through Leaf that they had to have started both fresh and right on the border when they began moving into Leaf (and thus, most have already been deployed to the border by the night of the 5th which is only a few hours after Akane was assigned the mission). Could you include a point to that effect in the plan?

It is my understanding that Hazou is not doing this. We are delegating it to our sealsmith clanmates. Hazou is busy doing seal research, FOOMing, and being a Clan Head. He doesn't have the time to do this.

I still don't understand how you arrived at this conclusion. If the team entered Fire the night of the 6th, or early morning of the 7th, they could have arrived at their campsite along the border the afternoon of the 6th. The plan does ask how plausible it is that they would have been stationed in Waterfall/Iron/Rice in the first place, and how plausible it would be for them to reach their hypothetical campsite north of Fire in time.

[mush] Speak your heart.
Take off the mantle of clan head piece by piece. Back to the days it was the team, alone in the wilderness. Akane... is gone. Noburi and Kagome not in the room, secrets kept from them. Unspoken divisions among us, greatest tests ahead. Speak your heart. Bare the fear of failure, the weight of uncertainty, of recent and upcoming trials. Will they hold nothing back, speak theirs? Family is there for each other, especially when there are no easy answers.

They don't seem to have been very surprised by our report (of Canvass' findings), or to have reacted the way one does upon learning your enemies are much more capable than you thought.
They were surprised. Acted harsher to Ruka after finding enemy action.
If these scenarios were in their threat models, then shouldn't they have just taken greater precautions in the first place, with the opsec of Akane's mission assignments?
No Tower spies - normal risk from normal missions, lower risk from greater precautions + small clue to outside observers. Tower spies - higher risk from normal missions, EM leak risk from greater precautions. But higher risk of capture also leaks EM... not sure what to think.

this is from the Conclave Crimson Sunrise Plan.

My question is, are we sure this wouldn't be a faux pas because of Summon Path/Rat peculiarities? I think our best bet would be to talk to the rat we locked eyes with if they are of middling importance, let them sanity check/vet us, and then ask them for an intro with their boss.
Tried to make the change, see below.

Also everyone a Conclave plan is supposed to be due tomorrow, so...

Word Count: ???
  • Optimize with Mari, Kei, and/or Noburi when appropriate.
  • Rats:
    • Immediately approach that nearby Rat trade rep with advisor-suggested tributes. Be polite; introduce ourselves.
    • Mention Hazou has heard of their ideology in passing, and he wants to know more.
      • Discuss Uplift and what Goketsu has accomplished so far. Ask Rats for opinions on how it could be improved.
  • Otherwise, do enough damage control to keep the Pangolins from doing something drastic in retaliation (eg kick Kei out, mass cull Condors).
    • I don't know what the fuck to put here yo

Is anyone interested in doing the meeting about how we can productively use our new found wealth after this cycle?
We've already had those meetings. The Goketsu is already funneling a vast amount of money into improving the lives of people within and without Leaf. We've had meetings about what to pursue, consulted experts for their opinions, made pitches to the rest of Leaf, and most of all we've set competent people in charge of keeping all that in motion, moving forwards at all times.

We do not need to have another meeting to simply reaffirm that we should be funding Till'n'fills and building walls with MARI. If you have a specific plan for something novel that would benefit people that wouldn't already have been put in place by a competent NPC, then I'm open to start talking about a plan that discusses its viability and actively puts it into motion. But speaking personally, I am not going to support spending an entire plan on merely holding a meeting about an economic idea, let alone discussing the possible hypothetical existence of an economic idea.

When we need to have a meeting before doing something, the very least we can do is give the QMs room to leave the meeting off-screen and instead write the part where we actually do said thing.

  • As the crow flies, it was a bit less than 40 miles, which would be around 2 hours. However, they spent a while zig-zagging through the countryside, so Hazou thinks they spent closer to 4-8 hours in Fire, depending on how fast they were going.
  • Around 30 miles. At speed, that would be ~1.5 hours.
  • Around 30 miles, or around 1.5 hours.
  • Around 60 miles, or around 3 hours
Paper, are these numbers still correct? I plotted them on the map and they don't reach the location marked as infil/exfil.

I don't have any interest in interludes, if we're gonna continue having timeline shenanigans I'd rather just do the sealing exams :V

Speaking solely for myself, haven't talked to the others about this, they may feel differently and be more willing to engage with the issue:

You probably don't want to push this. The FtD system is intended to make life easy for everyone by allowing us to not track things at a low level. That flexibility works to your benefit in a huge way, so it would be a good idea to think carefully before you force us to do a ton more work, because if we have to then it's gonna roll both ways. As one example of where it works to your favor: we don't track how much money it costs to buy the tens of thousands of CP that Team Uplift needs for FOOM, nor do we track whether or not that CP is available, nor do we worry about whether or not Hazō actually has enough time available in the day that he can afford to have all his clones FOOMing instead of dealing with Clan Head duties / taking meetings with Asuma / etc.

But speaking personally, I am not going to support spending an entire plan on merely holding a meeting about an economic idea, let alone discussing the possible hypothetical existence of an economic idea.
*wipes away tears of gratitude*

Which of the PCs would you like me to allocate this +1 XP to?

Given that we're still doing back and forth to figure out what the heck's going on with the Akane situation, do you guys mind if we get back to you for chapter 598? @Paperclipped @eaglejarl @Velorien

I'm fine to write an interlude, if that's what you're asking. Or only the seal exam. That could be fun.

Can the interlude be the sealing exam?
I'm asking obliquely if we can do the sealing exams (which we've been excited about for a while) and then go back to answer the question at the end of Vel's chapter.
Yes, like this.
