In the spirit of continuing to create weapons of mass destruction, condensed granite is an even deadlier material to use for our future Rods of God plan.

@Cariyaga We should probably take care the superstorm speculation the clan might be having. The fact we might have to move might also feel like whiplash to them.

He'd successfully dodged his clanmates' questions about the hellstorm last night, but he would need an answer soon, and probably a better answer than "I can't talk about it," since anyone who knew that he and Akane were going out to train Elemental Mastery (and maybe enjoy a date) might put two and two together by accident.

E: I'm ignoring my day job in favour of MfD, per usual.

@Cariyaga, here's my take on your plan. 299 words.
  • Be there for Akane. Don't try to make things better: just be present as much as possible.
  • Check/optimize all with Mari.
  • Start making arrangements for the move into Leaf
    • Delegate/defer to Gaku.
  • The compound:
    • Hire and pay civilian contractors so as not to run against the Merchant Council, but do what you do best with Earthshaping yourself.
      • Practice Earthshaping for art and architecture. We want a damn pretty compound.
      • Use clan colours for stone, smoothed together as if one stone. Take your time: do this slowly and correctly.
    • Plans include a statue of Jiraiya (styled as a tribute he'll appreciate) in the entryway, little waterways with (non-deadly) koi, and scattered, communal gardens.
    • The compound should be open and welcoming.
      • Except Kagome's quarters, which will be defended to his satisfaction with Hazo's help (Earthshaping).
  • Visit other clan compounds for inspiration and to ensure Hazo's vision integrates with established Leaf norms.
    • Visit as many as possible. Prioritize the Amori, Aburame, Hyuuga, Minami, and Uchiha (QMs pick from that list?).
    • Do your research on their architecture. Bring thoughtful host gifts - Earthshaped? - for the clan and your guide(s).
    • You're here to learn. Be humble. Temper your natural curiosity: be interested, but don't overdo it.
  • Prepare two celebrations for the compound opening.
    • 'Formal' opening - clan heads, Summoners, important political/community figures.
    • A more intimate/casual gathering: close friends and Goketsu allies, but folks you want to know better, too. Minori Minami's mother, Aburame lensmakers, Sarutobi sealmasters, your guides from architectural tours, etc.
      • Make them feel welcome.
      • The theme/vibe is integrating Goketsu into Leaf.
    • Think wedding ceremony vs. reception: formal affair/statement and then social intermingling of families.
  • Continue work on Minato's seals.
  • Ask Noburi how being the Toad Summoner is going. Has he found any good teachers? Can he?
[X] Action Plan: Starting Anew
Some plan feedback.
  • Be there for Akane, much as you can. Don't expect things to get better; just be there to support her, as much as you can.
Wordcount is getting a little tight; likely don't need to specify 'as much as you can' twice.
  • Start making arrangements for the move into Leaf
This feels a little vague hanging out on its own. Some more detail (even if it's just 'throw to Gaku') would be good.
Visit the Amori, Minami, Hyuuga, Hagoromo (show actual interest here, and do your best to ignore jabs), Aburame, and Uchiha compounds in particular
Asuma said we didn't have to be friends with everyone, and we've seen the Hagoromo compound several times. The only person who'd be even vaguely interested in showing us around (can you imagine booking an appointment for a tour, only to be left in the waiting room for two hours, at which point we're told that our guide was unfortunately called away on a mission, so sad, try again tomorrow? because I can) is Kid Hag, who (understandably, he's 13) probably knows little to nothing about architecture.

I also think that we've just seen a lot of the Hagoromo on screen, so we know what their values are, and how to interact with them without pissing them off (which is to say, don't, or perhaps we could drop dead). We aren't accomplishing what Asuma asked by visiting them. The Hyuuga and the Akimichi, however, are conservative clans where we might be able to make some headway or at least understand a little better how to conduct ourselves politely around them.

I'd particularly like to see the Akimichi compound: we can bring some good fukkin' host gifts ('in Mist we call this a 'pizza stone', you spread dough on it and then place it in an oven') and we know that Choji doesn't hate us. I'd also like to mention bringing host gifts (ES, books, something more practical) and doing some background research ('was the designer influenced by the Yoshi school? the egg-like structure of the entrances is very playful while communicating safety' etc.) before we show up.
  • Use this as an opportunity to humbly learn about their beliefs
I think that this phrasing could use some work. Maybe something like 'learn about their beliefs and perspectives through their architecture as well as talking to your guide'.
When finished, invite other clans over for a celebration of the new Gouketsu housing.
For a few reasons, I think we should try to have two celebrations: a 'formal' opening that we invite all the heads to, and then a more subdued one for personal touches.
Specific invites beyond the norm (that being clan heads, uplift, etc.): Minori Minami's mother (inform her that the Hyuuga will be present, out of courtesy), Naruto, Ami, allow plus-2s (intent: allow summoners to show up except Orochimaru without the same thing as happened last time)
Minori ain't gonna show if Hyuuga is there. Again, two-pronged approach: invite everyone Important for the grand opening, and then have an afterparty or more intimate gathering where we invite a spectrum of people - yes, Summoners, but also Minori Minami's mother, the Sarutobi sealmaster who took us on our 'mission', Aburame lensmakers, etc. Competing Summons might get nasty (they have rivalries) so maybe not too many of those?

Overall a good plan - my vote remains even if none of these changes are made.

Ping me if you like (some of) these ideas but can't make them work within wordcount.
If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears.
We could intimate that Asuma is both annoyed at us and wants us safe inside the village, and 'suggested' that we empty our coffers to purchase the suddenly-available compound.

I wouldn't be "in particular" about it, just introduce these compounds as suggestions.

Also, what FaintlySorcerous said, both points.
Specific invites beyond the norm (that being clan heads, uplift, etc.): Minori Minami's mother (inform her that the Hyuuga will be present, out of courtesy), Naruto, Ami, allow plus-2s (intent: allow summoners to show up except Orochimaru without the same thing as happened last time)
What FaintlySorcerous said, inviting the Hyuga and Minami at the same time is a recipe for disaster if they come, and if they know we intend to invite the other they may take insult and decline. Maybe limit ourselves to people we know personally? What did Shikamaru/Hinata do once their estate was repaired?

PSA: The following has been added to the Earthshaping jutsu rules:

(NOTE: The results of ES's density manipulation are ultimately non-magical, but none of the QMs care about material science enough to see how much you can actually compact the individual atoms of diamond or granite or whatever. In the game universe, each type of stone has a different maximum compression/expansion ratio. Out-of-game, we're rounding it off to 50% for convenience. If you try to do something that's conditioned on real-world material science interacting with chakra magic, we will make it fail by default, unless it solely depends on denser/stronger or lighter/brittle stone in the way we expected this to go when we were making ES.)

and

FtD is intentionally imprecise about time, so there are not going to be precise numbers. You need to spend 'a few minutes' (see the Time Ladder in the rules) to start the jutsu and a few minutes to stop the jutsu. This time is not counted towards how long your desired goal takes. The required time will vary based on QM judgment. The fastest is simple, crude, small-scale things that can be done with your hands assisting your chakra abilities. A good example is "dig a small hole". If you're working with larger amounts of stuff, it takes longer. If you're doing fine detail work, it takes longer. If you need to do it entirely with chakra instead of being able to use your hands, it takes longer. If the moon is in the wrong phase (i.e., if the QMs think it should take longer) then it takes longer. We reserve the right to use whatever values we choose, but in general it will take anywhere from 15 minutes to 12 hours per casting, and some projects may even require multiple castings.

Additionally, some uses might require extra knowledge. If you want to make a bridge using the minimum material (in order to do it quickly) then you might need some sort of construction-related skill in order to ensure that it stands up under load.
Can I ask for clarification on what is intended for the volume/density manipulation?

I'm getting the feeling that "Oh hell yeah, denser rock means better pillars" is okay, but a hypothetical "GUYS IF THE ROCK IS HALF AS DENSE ITS A SUPERCONDUCTOR" isn't

Edit: Hobby idea for Hazō: create models of legendary ships inside geodes. They're only visible if you break open the geode, so its almost the next level up from a ship in a bottle. This would also be a good way to raise a Craftmanship: Stonework or an equivalent if necessary for 3d sealing

Most of what FaintlySorcerous said. Basically say we pissed Asuma off and he wants us on a shorter leash.

I would push the visit to the different clan compounds to the next update if this was a shorter term plan. I'd like 3 scenes composed of Uchiha and Aburame and some Hagaromo (mostly Harumitsu sealing and him hosting us).

How long is the time skip here?

I don't think Mari is going to press for info, at all. She's the one that taught Hazō how important plausible deniability us after all.

Nah. This is Hazou following through on what Asuma told him to do. The verbiage is necessary because Hazou is an opinionated little shit and without instruction otherwise he will absolutely judge people for their beliefs.
Right but there's a better time for that, no? If we go door to door like that, it's gonna look bad for us.

That's a really good point. There's all kinds of social Kaijus hidden in who we approach first. I'm not saying the heirs would necessarily take offense personally, but it might be the folks around them. This is gonna have to be handled more delicately.

Maybe we need to do the game night first and then ask for ideas. And then we celebrate it after with another game night.

I'm not sure I can fit all of this in there, particularly the two parties thing. Working on it, though!

We have the Clan whose primary value is teaching people and they taught us nothing. I feel we should maybe tap that well of untold potential, just saying.
we also have access to the public tech of an entire civilization (pangolins and potentially monkeys via 7path trade) that has developed on a Path with much less warfare (which would hamper tech development). And haven't looked into that.

Adjusted the plan to this, by the way, if anyone has complaints.

Honestly the only thing I might change was switching the "comfort Akane" and "sanity-check" order to let Mari take her shot at things, but if Hazou lets something slip while optimizing with Mari that's treason and blah blah. So I dunno if it should be changed.

I don't think that we can compartmentalize what's going on with Akane and get effective consultation from Mari. I don't think that we need it, or that the value of the consultation outweighs the potential issues it raises.
