I struggle to think of a summon that would suit her better, though I'd be curious to hear others' ideas.

I will be back to this.

We don't even know if Fifi is a cat, or just a chakra beast vaguely shaped like a cat that decided it liked Kagome (and now Hazou, apparently). Fifi could be an omnivore (emphasis on the "om").

Either a possible omnivore with proven predatory habits despite supposedly being able to subsist on simply chewing trees in an out-wall area with more fresh trees than anywhere on the entire planet decided to suddenly and unprovokably eat a stomach-full of dry, preserved wood plus box, the most difficult to digest and least profitable food available, of that game and only that game, or Ami broke in as she has proven she can casually do to steal it to force an encounter with Kei and Snowflake when we know for a fact that Ami had already been informed of what game was going to be played.

Hrrrmmmm... Tough call...

I suggest that the next plan include something along the lines of telling Ami, "y'know, if I and Keiko and/or Snowflake need to have a chat you really can just tell us. Some families have precious jewels- ours has boardgames, and Kagome's security network only needs to get lucky once for it to be a bad day for everybody."

Word count: 237

Kagome's Birthday
  • Make sure there are enough explosives. Use fireworks, if possible.
  • Present the chocolate statue we had commissioned.
Create your best replica of the Great Seal:
  • Focus as long as possible without losing fidelity to tiredness -- get chakra refills to do so.
    • (mechanically, time ladder steps)
  • If it seems easier, make individual components, then merge them.
    • Or make components one at a time, to make it easier to trash those that came out wrong.
  • Consult with artisan stonecarvers or others who might have valuable input.
    • (mechanically, get tags)
  • Get painkillers or drugs that will improve mental acuity temporarily.
    • (mechanically, reduce or ignore Consequence penalties)
  • Present to the collected sealmasters of Leaf once finished.
    • Answer any questions as needed, using the IN replica.
Cannai:
  • Thanks to the bison meat you provided, starvation in Leaf has been temporarily stayed. How can we repay you?
    • Can we arrange regular trade?
    • We can help with hunting.
  • How did the Conclave go?
    • Relay Ami's idea for ensuring safe passage.
    • Important territories for travel: Leopard or Hyena, and Cat.
  • Here are jutsu we'd be interested in learning:
    • Spacetime
    • Uplift: constructing walls and roads, cleaning water, preserving food
    • Enhancing mental fortitude
    • Related to "nature chakra"
      • Hazou knows: Innate to summons, dangerous to drain, but empowers chakra beasts
    • Those that were most useful to previous summoners.
    • What jutsu would the dogs like in exchange?
      • Should trades be case-by-case?
  • Any response on the Bear Scroll?

Basically, I think the Great Seal replica is important to do right now, since we have stoneshaping leveled. Once we level it more or clear Consequences, we can try to improve it, but having a first attempt that's actually 3D (and not Hazou's mediocre sketches) seems very important to understanding it.

Why would understanding it help, when it is below the level of simulation that the QMs are likely willing to do? I think it's because we lack levers on the problem. As it stands, what directions do we have on the Great Seal?
  • Study dimensionalism:
    • Necromancy: resurrect better sealmasters.
  • Bring together all the Summon bosses, kite Dragons one by one and try to win by brute force.
    • Could fail badly if the Dragons Eat a Boss and then learn wayshredding.
  • Figure out how the Karasu dealt with the other souldrinkers.
  • ??? to study seals that degrade rather than failing.
    • ??? to repair them.
  • ??? to study 3D sealing.
Breaking down the ???s into something concrete gives us things to do like studying the Rift seals or arranging the Crusade. Potentially, some of them are quite straightforward and can be turned into adventure hooks (e.g. diplomance this one esoteric Clan, deep-dive around Hidden Whirlpool, etc.).

Other than that, Kagome's birthday is good to have, and following up with Cannai is polite.

How did the Conclave go?
Did Cannai attend the Conclave? I kinda figured Dog was too far away to get an invite.
(mechanically, ignore Consequence penalties)
Might be best to add 'if possible' so as to not sound presumptive to the QMs.
Relay Ami's idea for ensuring safe passage.
This could probably also be expanded somewhat into 'discuss transportation from the east to Arachnid' in general since we'll probably need to secure travel through either Hyena or Leopard and should get details on which one's more viable.
Uplift: constructing walls and roads, cleaning water, preserving food
Very minor, but I think putting this above 'nature chakra' in the list will make it closer to the front of Hazou's mind when he starts asking, and thus create a better impression as Hazou tempers his ambitious requests with a humble-and-altruistic request somewhat earlier than otherwise. It's not an afterthought where it currently is in the list, but I think it probably works out better one bullet point higher.

I admit that I love the idea of negotiating with the cats from the position of, "our initial scouting team just burned down half your continent because you were being unreasonable."

Looks good to me!

That's an excellent point. I guess we'll have to change the rules so that instead of simply going away on February 19 and leaving you at full health, it instead rolls down to a Medium. Possibly an extra severe Medium...? Something to think about. Anyway, after another 1-3 weeks the Medium can roll down to a Mild which will clear in 1-3 days.

This will extend your healing time by about 1/3, but I appreciate your commitment to simulationism. I'm sure everyone else does as well.

We should go even further — be fully committed to realism. Hazō's injuries aren't something that people would realistically fully recover from IRL. Therefore, we should get permanent status maluses for the rest of the quest even after it heals. Actually, why should they heal at all…?

Can we also ask for close-quarters Lightning jutsu (useful for Haru, who will not be FOOMing anytime soon) and anything related to earthshaping (hey, we're specializing)?

Rephrasing 'what was useful to previous Summoners' to 'what was useful to previous Summoners by giving them advantages unique to the Dog clan' might be an idea. They probably have lots of jutsu that Kakashi was able to use very well due to his mastery of multiple natures/Sharingan, and all of the previous summoners were probably big badasses, but we're kinda...not.

"Indeed, sir. Even better, when Captain Reo delivered the last of the seals yesterday, the junior administrator who took receipt made an elaborately casual reference to the idea that Lord Hokage should really keep doing this on an indefinite basis. The administrator immediately followed this with a comment that obviously that could only happen if the Tower were able to get the meat at half the current price."

"Wait...are you saying that Asuma backchanneled us an offer of ongoing payment?"
Based on the scene where we arranged the deal for the bison, I highly doubt Cannai wants to charge us for the thousand bison. Still, if you want to check I don't see the harm. The only thing I would change is asking about making this a regular thing (which we would definitely need to compensate them for) so we can take Asuma up on his offer (after negotiating better prices).

Oh dear, of only we knew somebody who knew somebody who was an S-ranker in prosthetics...

Frankly, I'm having a difficult time coming up with reasons why we don't just lay the whole situation out to Hidan. He doesn't want the entire multiverse eaten by monstrosities from beyond time and space any more than we do, if for different reasons. He also has links to other unique assets he can call upon. Asuma would probably squawk at first pass, but he's technically not an enemy by the terms of the peace and it would hardly be the first time he was bent to Leaf's well-being by Hazou.

Plus, the interactions would be funny as hell.

You could have it convert 2 weeks early and linger for those 2 weeks as a moderate if you want to avoid player salting.

Besides that Hidan is MIA/possibly dead after we aimed him like a suicide bomb at Rock?

Asuma will execute Hazou if we do this without advance permission. That's a good reason.

He might not even mind that we did it that much, but if it becomes known that we did this without his say-so he will have to kill Hazou to preserve his authority, and tbh he's right. It's massively overstepping, especially since Asuma is kinda good at his job, unlike Hyuuga

A bit late, but it's the thought that counts.

[X] Action plan: Getting Real
(170 words)
  • Akane had time to cool down, so what's it going to be? Is she ready to put in the work to repair their relationship or are they done?
  • Ino - are they even dating at this point? The whole point of a triangle is that one side holds both others up, but she bailed on Hazo the moment Akane caught a mood. Same deal, if she's not prepared to work on the relationship then Hazo has better things to do.
  • Only Kagome and Mari can be counted on to follow if emergency exit from Leaf becomes necessary. Brainstorm division of labour - someone needs to learn at least some basics of medical jutsu and someone needs to finally work on those cold weather survival skills. Debate other preparations.
  • Consult with Mari: Do you even Mist, bro? Ami says what? Brainstorm SC + TLitF interaction.
  • HOWS placement - appoint a logistics officer instead of spreading himself thin with micromanagement.
  • Economic action - petting zoo. Dogs get free daycare for energetic puppies while Hazo pockets entrance fees.
