[x] Action Plan: Disheartening Lack of All-Consuming Horror
Prepare for the meetings with Ino, Chouza, Asuma, Shino, Minami.
  • Express condolences for their losses.
  • If appropriate, touch on politics. What sort of Hokage would they want?
The bullets feel a bit redundant since we're doing the meeting later. Maybe we could combine it or something?

Dinner was eaten. Hayashi and Katō had been ushered out amidst much polite bowing and words of gratitude and friendship. Dishes were put away. Everyone was sprawled over various pieces of furniture in the common room, except for Kenta and Yukari, who could at most be considered to be 'sitting very close together' instead of even 'cuddling', much less 'sprawling' on the loveseat. It was time for the announcement.

Adopting them was a good decision. I suppose it makes sense that Akane comes from a healthy household.

About the land thing, if the Goketsu can help develop a better way for building paddy fields, there is a absurd amount of money on that.
Well, rice is general is a pretty gruesome crop to cultivate and make ready for consumption, so there's a absolute market there.

Re: The Ino/Chouza thing, I would suggest asking Ino if she thinks Chouza would like to collaborate on a memorial service or shrine.

@Noumero bring up asking Naruto to meet Sasuke before the clan meeting ends, to see Mari's opinion of it. It seems like a good idea since even though he isn't sitting on the seat himself, his regent should take him into consideration by this point, and the two are probably friends, Naruto can rebuke us if it wouldn't work on that end.

Ooh! Slightly unethical but hey ninja politics.

What if we used our civvie connections to compile reports on political opponents hurting civvies? Its supposedly enough to instantly killbox leaf ninja right? If ISC+G came forward together with those reports and a goal to reform civvie relations under Asuma it would be really hard for the moderates to vote for Hyuga without massive face backlash.

"Sure, we wouldn't say no to help, but if you guys get hurt that's pretty bad, whereas clones... just kind of aren't important," Noburi explained with a shrug to the inquisitive crew sitting in the shade as he passed out cool water from his pack of storage seals. His clones were hard at work driving loop-ended nails into the trunk so it could be looped into the pulleys the lumberjacks had brought along and raised up so a Force Wall could be set under it.

"Ah, um, I see, thank you for indulging my foolish question honorable mister ninja, sir," the crewmember who'd spoken up responded. "Forgive me, I've never seen such a thing up close."

"Don't be thanking me just yet, those guys only last a little while. All of us are going to need to get in there and sweat before the day's out. In the meantime, can I interest you in some of my mother's chilled mint tea?"

It's in the middle of winter?

I like this. I like it a lot.

But it will be tough to pull off. You would need undisputed power of the type the First hokakge would have wielded. Remember, the Third was probably against abuse as well, and it didn't stop under him. This isn't a no. It isn't even a "maybe later". Its a "be very clever".

We should tell Asuma that Tsunade's vote can be secured by promising funding for medical education and R&D. Promising it to Tsunade first will keep Hiashi from flipping her by promising it. We can sell it as good public policy that's worth doing in any case, so it's not even really a bribe.

Also, sneakily, building an institution of higher learning is something we want anyway, and once we have a medical school up and running we can expand on it with more subjects later. Many of the medieval universities in Europe grew the same way. Oxford is a good example, with its bazillion sub-colleges that got founded whenever someone gave the university a big chunk of money and asked for a new course of study to be opened.

"Actually...I had a thought about that," Hazō began. "If you cool things enough—
@Noumero I haven't been paying attention much to breaking EM and so don't know exactly what this is talking about, but would it be appropriate to add a further discussion on this to the plan?

Edit:
"No sidetracking, Mr Mew!" Noburi said. "We're already off track; we started with politics and now we're talking about money. And loading all of that salt sounds time-intensive. Is it really the most profitable use of our time? Sure, we could hire civilians to do it, but one of us would still need to stay to protect them. And we'd need to explain where the salt was coming from to the Merchant Council, or sell outside the city to places too small to have a Merchant Council. Which means places that don't have a lot of hard cash to pay with, so actually selling it will be time consuming and low-throughput. Unless we sell outside of Fire entirely, in which case our 'treasonous missing-nin' history makes us look pretty bad."
Maybe mention the possibility of using the Seventh Path to sell these goods for gold/other valuables, and then taking that stuff to sell in the EN for ryo.

We say nothing about EM's potential as a weapon beyond "oh it get hot hard to fight like that" -- and even that level of technique is tactical scale ninjutsu.

Wait... If all the land belongs to the Kage... couldn't we use that quite easily? We demonstrate to Asuma that we are willing and able to clear huge tracts of land. He can start making promises of arable land to be delivered if he wins, and we wait until the votes are in to start full scale clearing.

We have to win if the hokage owns the land. Daimyo only give a fuck about tax revenue.
