How the hell do we keep Hiashi from becoming Hokage?

Somehow try to persuade Tsunade to go for the post? Throw all of our weight behind Chouza or Asuma? I don't believe either of them is S-rank, but then again, Hiashi isn't either so that point doesn't matter too much here.

Naruto doesn't have anywhere close to the experience for the Hat. If Tsunade doesn't want to go for it, we support whichever one of Asuma and Chouza is more likely to get it.

Because after a thousand years of sacrifice, the Five are still sealed, and I was born with the power to subjugate the Nine.
Do we know who the Five are?
Down below, seven figures left in silence.
Headcount: how many people were in Akatsuki? Any chance Orochimaru was one of the resurrected group? Pein did just talk about how he was the best of them...

Also, I'm noting that the One-Tail jinchūriki wasn't listed among the survivors. Did Gaara die, and Shukaku is about to make a big mess of things?

I had planned this lovecraftian description of my return to the thread, were it ever to happen, but honestly I'm just not feeling that right now.

I've been keeping in the loop, chatting with people on discord, and I came back in to read this chapter.

Well.

It would seem the thread is once again a source of net-enjoyment for me. There are lists to write, plans to make, and The Thing to do.

*cracks knuckles*

*then puts those knuckles back in their jar*

If Naruto is in good enough condition, then Naruto. If not, Tsunade is probably the best candidate.
Problem is she doesn't want the hat and unless she changed her mind on the way back I'm not sure we'd be able to convince her. Asuma is also a possible candidate who might be willing to take the hat. I doubt any of the heads of Ino-shika-cho want it but I could be wrong, if not then working and pooling in our votes would be great. That is unless we don't get to join in the vote, we'll have to see. Inuzuka seems pretty firmly in Hyuga's camp, Aburame I'm unsure about but I wouldn't put much hope in them not voting for Hiashi.

Ideally Naruto is fine, we can muster up support for him with the clan trio and the Sarutobi, and he takes the hat.

A list of priorities that was roughly hashed out in the discord chat, in no particular order:
  • Make Hazou learns everything he can about the battle
  • Read Jiraiya's will as soon as Tsunade judges it as appropriate
  • Keep our ear to the ground regarding the snake scroll
  • Secure Naruto's mental and physical health, making sure he's on the road to recovery.
  • Start producing skywalkers en masse and offer a portion to the tower.
  • Propose to Ami.
  • Have Naruto or Tsunade make a bid for the hat.
    • If this doesn't seem viable try and convince someone from ISC to make a bid and support them to the fullest of our ability.
  • Subtly leak Hiahi's speech to the clanless.
This is all highly subject to change, but I just want to focus the conversation a bit more. Any objections or additions?

EDIT:
  • Make sure Kagome won't freak out too much about Naruto.

Asuma isn't S-rank but he is a jounin, Sarutobi's clan head, and the son and heir of Hiruzen and his summoning scroll. Plus he participated in the battle of gods, he has a lot going for him assuming he wants the hat.

Word count: 243

Super rough plan but want to start work asap
[X] Action plan: Goketsu means guts
  • Debrief with Naruto and Tsunade
    • Review Jiraya's will
      • Have the toad contract signed ASAP
      • Record all seals in Iron nerve
    • Decide if we want Tsunade or Naruto to make a play for the hat
      • Most important thing is keeping it out of Hiashi's hands
      • No matter what
    • Find out if Naruto wants to become clan head of the Goketsu
    • Marriage proposals
      • We need to secure our alliance with ISC
        • Kei we need you to go ahead with the marriage to lord Nara
      • Who should Hazō marry
        • Ino
        • Hinata
        • International possibilities
          • Ami
          • Others
      • Who should Noburi marry
        • Ino
        • Hinata
        • International possibilities
    • Consider leaking Hiashi's speech to clanless ninja
    • See if Orochimaru left anything about his resources or his organizations
    • Mari we need you to suck it up
    • Kagome
      • we need seal research to become a priority
      • We will need you to teach new students
  • Mourn the fallen
    • They where hero's who lived up to the idea of the will of fire
      • No matter if they came from leaf or abroad
    • Meet up with our friends and have a personal wake
  • Schedule meeting with ISC, Inuzuka, Uchiha, Aburma, Sarutobi and, any other clan heads
  • Start recovering what we can of Jiraiya's network and notes.
    • Lots of Jiraiya's power was based on personal loyalty, start treating those he trusted as trustworthy.
    • If we are fast enough, a decent chunk of them could be driven to work with us out of a desire to honour his memory.

So, I'm on vacation, at a large family gathering. As I type this post, I smile at uncle Zalman as he refills my vodka glass. And yet, this is what I'm doing, posting on an online forum, in a thread dedicated to a wierd collective roleplay game in the world of a nonsensical story about a ninja who always dresses in orange.

Uncle Zalman remarks that us young people should learn to get off of Facebook for 5 minutes. Joke's on him, I don't even have a Facebook account.

How did I reach this point in my life? I don't know, but I hope the vodka will help. I also hope there will be a plan worth voting for when I wake up tomorrow. Stay strong, my friends. We can do this.

@Velorien, @eaglejarl, @OliWhail, well fucking done, you magnificent bastards.

Speaking as a major opponent of Amzou, I agree with proposing to Ami under these circumstances. Ami might betray Hazou, but I don't think she would betray Kei. Her social talent is in the same playing field as Mari, and our political position is suddenly precarious. There will doubtlessly be stupid games and stupid prizes afoot, but I don't think Ami will do anything that endangers the clan, and therefore her sister. Hazou needs powerful trustworrthy allies right now, and marrying Ami is a way to get a really good one into Leaf. And to set aside the cold-hearted politics for a moment... (sigh) I don't think he'll have any problems falling in love with her, as much as I personally dislike the ship.

The important and difficult part is selling the idea to Kei. I haven't read the second Ami date or anything that happened after, so I'm not sure how difficult that would be, but my guess is "very".

Weird that no-one tried to make Pain rez their own dead when he revealed he had the power. As it is, securing the service or loyalty of any of the Akatsuki members seems like the easiest way to sway the balance of power. I expect amnesties are going to be offered to villages' own missing-nin and bribes to neutrals. I wonder how Itachi stands on returning... and how they interpret Pain's request for them to continue his work. Even a pair or trio sticking together could be a force to be reckoned with by any surviving village.

Chōza is presumably going to be taking the lead in the alliance while the kids grow up. Asuma might be an acceptable Hokage candidate if Tsunade isn't willing to run personally.

Is it weird I'm hoping Orochimaru faked his death again?

No, I'm extremely disappointed never to see his character interact with Hazou and his philosophy. In line with the setting and quest's rationalism there could easily have been valid consequentialist arguments for his atrocities he'd have made given the chance. Pain might have been talking purely about his capabilities here but the tone sounds like he had some measure of sentimentality for him as a person and neither Jiriaya or Tsunade treat him like a purely contemptible sadist. It'd be interesting to see if Tsunade would share some of the details later of what precisely he did and why he did it.

"Jiraiya of the Three is dead," Pain said. "So is Sasori. We killed Orochimaru some time ago. I doubt there's any ninja left alive who can decipher and undo this seal in time."

"Oro was here until the end," Lady Tsunade growled. "He died a hero."

For the first time, Pain flinched in surprise.

"He really was the best of us," he said thoughtfully after a second. "He had the resolve to leave. The resourcefulness to survive our assault. The courage to challenge what he knew were impossible odds. Perhaps if he'd fought with us rather than against us…"

Shit ... Jiraiya is dead. Just when we were starting to feel like he's part of the family.
I'm sad that Pain didn't have enough sentimentality to revive Jiraiya too ._.

We need to

[X] Action Plan : 'Gōketsu Clan Technique: Kagome's Bliss!'
  • Recognize Naruto and Tsunade as Goketsu. (If they are willing)
    • Without them we can't stay a Leaf clan, we have no legitimacy.
  • Recognize Akane's family as part of the clan.
  • Talk with Naruto,
    • Make sure he knows he's part of the family and that we're mourning with him.
    • Have a wake for Jiraiya with only family and those J considered very close friends, tell stories of his life.
    • Listen to Naruto.
  • Make Naruto clan-head as soon as possible.
    • We can do the actual work until he feels ready to lead.
    • Again Legitimacy.
  • If Keiko is willing, make her engagement with Shika as official as possible.
    • Legitimacy.
  • Get the bodies of everyone who died, esp. Jiraiya, and Oro.
    • Don't do anything with them except keep them safe for longer term plans.
  • Rope Shika into all our decision making, have Keiko drag him in if needed.
    • We get to deepen our alliance and increase our legitimacy as a clan.
    • See if Ino and Cho are willing to participate.
    • Our goal here is to punch above our (now rather reduced) weight, at least in service of the survivals of all our clans.
  • Ask Choza, Shika's Mom, Tsunade, and Mari to help with gaining a solid fitting as clan heads and with politics.
    • Do this with Ino-Shika-Cho and Naruto.
    • We all need to git gud as fast as possible.
  • Get Mari to snap out of it.
    • We have a job to do and we need her back.
    • Self pity is a luxury we cannot afford.
  • Feel out whether Tsunade is willing to take the hat while Naruto gets ready to be Hokage.
    1. It's going to be Hiashi if it's not her.
    2. Spin her as having avenged Jiraiya.
  • See if we can declare that Oro is a honorary member of the clan.
    • Spin his history as:
      • Lost touch with the truth of the will of fire.
      • Jiraiya and Tsunade never gave up on him.
      • Though correspondence and occasional contact got him to see what was broken within him.
      • Oro decided to stay missing-nin as a secret agent for leaf and to atone for his crimes.
      • Died a hero's death fighting alongside Jiraiya and Tsunade.
    • Keep an eye out if he tries to get in touch with us.
      • Who really thinks he sent his primary body?
      • Correspond if he initiates.
  • Back down on major political changes.
    • We need to establish ourselves before we start pushing uplift again.
    • If we overextend that gives Hiashi an opening.
  • Get what clearances we can.
  • Work with all of the clan (incl. Naruto and Tsunade) to start planning for Hidden Mountain. If willing rope in USC and mentors.

We don't want any more Mist in the clan than we already have. We are at serious risk of Hiashi simply declaring us to have never been Leaf ninja in the first place and killing us.

It is way too early to give in and run just yet. We need to see how Naruto is first, plan things out with our clan, get to talking and seeing how our allied clans are faring, and check our options and see who has a decent chance of beating Hiashi for the hat.
You're proposing we wait until Hiashi had time to rest, fortify, and plan next steps and contingencies.

And his next step is pressuring the clans into electing the Hokage as soon as possible. It favours him, as he is the strongest candidate — and they're going to comply, because there are very good objective reasons to do so: lack of internal unity at this time is an existential threat to Leaf.

All of {Tsunade, Mari, Naruto} are various kinds of nonfunctional, and therefore unable to do politics; we'll likely be unable to fix them before Hiashi wins. Asuma? Maybe. Chouza? Can ISC even function in absence of Shikaku and Inoichi? Gaku, Yuuhi, Minori? Political nonentities. Everyone else is dead or a nonentity.

It pretty much comes down to Hiashi vs. Asuma, and I'm highly doubtful Asuma could win this one... unless we take Hiashi out of the picture entirely. ASAP.

He really can't afford to try. His position is also precarious. We have Tsunade on our side, and Naruto if he's sane. Two S-rank village heroes who'll back us up and defend us from violence.

Hiashi's not S-rank. He's smart. He's a jonin. He has political clout. But pissing off Tsunade to the point of needing her to fix him back up again isn't on his agenda for the day.

These are the following MfD Akatsuki so far as we know:

1) Deidara
2) Sasori
3) Hidan
4) Kakuzu
5) Konan
6) Itachi
7) Kisame
8) Nagato

Perhaps others.

We know that Pain resurrected 7 other people, this would indicate that everyone save him was resurrected.

However, Orochimaru just straight up swallowed Hidan's body. Its unlikely that he was DEAD, merely paralyzed.

So either there was a 9th Akatsuki member (Zetsu?), or someone else was resurrected.

Is... Orochimaru still alive?

We are not making Orochimaru the next Hokage.

Speaking of internal unity, IMO now would be the time to rally the civilian born ninja. Get them unionized or something, to give them a voice at the bargaining table. The notion of Hyuga Hiashi as Hokage would probably scare the shit out of a lot of them, but if they could be convinced to stand up in numbers and say no, or at least support the alternative candidate, it could put a lot of pressure on the clans to concede.

Also... use the printing press to release a flyer with these words on it:

"Do you honestly believe that the peasant in the field has the same right to rule as the man who has proven his will and his power by overcoming all challengers? That the extraordinary Bloodline Limit flowing through your veins is of equal value to the blood of some common-born taken from the street?" - Hyūga Hiashi

Properly utilized, this is a lovely bit of anti-Hiashi propaganda.
