...Wait, what?

Oh wow. Holy shit. That's ballsy and ruthless.

...I'd probably go for it, except that we know nothing about Orochimaru's motives or loyalties.

"Does that snake over there look unusually smug, to you?"

"That's a strange thing to ask, dude. Look, we should get back to patrol. Everyone's nervous since Lord Hyuga vanished, the higher ups want us looking busy."

Yeah, pretty much this plus we only know about Hiashi from J-man. If we absolutely HAD to choose between preemptive assassination with our current knowledge and Hiashi as Hokage, I'd pick the first, but I think we have enough breathing room to not do anything that drastic quite yet.

Nakano's teammate was short, muscular, with darker skin that Hazō was used to seeing and frizzy hair.
@eaglejarl typo maybe? "that" ~> "than" or "was" ~> "wasn't" ?

Yeah, besides details (whatever I have right now is frighteningly insecure as far as "Ask for someone to be Disappeared" goes) this certainly hinges on a particular guesstimate of Orochimaru's character that certainly might not be the case. Realistically I don't expect anyone else here to go for it.

Captain Miki had been fairly tight-reined to being with, more so after Hazō took her aside to mention that he was worried about ambush, but she had authorized people to have a little space between their fires.
Probably should be "begin," not "being."
"Ohhhhkay. Moving on," Hazō said. "I'm thin on details, actually. I've been told I have a problem respecting other people's agency, so I figured I'd just come talk to you guys and find out what you want and what would actually help."
I was confused. I thought she was asking for details about Games Night, and suddenly Hazo is talking about more general alliance stuff.
"Of course, the best is to ask them to go for a walk on the river and see how long it takes for them to realize that I meant on the river. Civvie girls really go for that."
So what, he's walking and she's swimming?
"You poke holes in them with a senbon, then soak 'em in watered honey overnight before toasting them. Pretty good, right?
Hey, good idea. Imma try this!

So what, he's walking and she's swimming?

Psh, no. They're obviously being carried in the strong arms of a dashing ninja. Or maybe standing on his feet as they dance in the moonlight.

Regarding @MMKII's plan, I think trying to get Hiashi assassinated actually is our best option if (and only if) both J-Man and Tsunade are dead.

Also, regardless of whether we'll ultimately be able to stay in Leaf or not, I do think @Immortal Lurker's idea of starting work on an Uplift Manifesto is EXCELLENT. It might bite our ass a bit in short-term politics, but it'll make us look a hell of a lot more sincere about our ideals and will go along away towards spreading Uplift without our active involvement. Lastly, it will help us build a base of support from powerful civvies (read: Merchant Council) and clanless ninja.

Hazou kind of outlined the three main lines of Uplift argument. Moral, Economic, and Military. We should elaborate on these, and put in a lot of effort to make sure we have a strong rhetorical case and convincing analysis. It's possible we could sell Mari on the idea that helping us formulate our arguments, especially along the rhetorical dimension, would be one of the best ways to put some unalloyed "good" on her moral ledger. Keiko and the Nara can help with the actual analysis. The memetic defenses are indeed weak, so let us strike while that still holds true.

Hazō's head came up fast. "I don't like that word. You shouldn't use it. Especially not for yourself."

"I said. I do not like. That. Word."

Lmfao what the hell is with this bullshit Hazo?

A) Not really up to you to decide how civilian born ninja refer to themselves

B) You literally just said you have a problem respecting other people's agency and then you do this

C) It just makes you look bad. If you want to ingratiate yourself with some people who have a lower social status then you, this kind of tactic probably isn't going to work.

Great news everyone!
High Concept: Creative Idealist
Invoke when: Hazō has an unorthodox idea or gives an impassioned speech.
Earn Fate Points when: Hazō values idealism over practicality or isn't taken seriously due to the apparent naivety of his beliefs.
I just realized that due to this we can tell that the clanless people we were trying to get to know didn't share the "he's a naive idiot" reaction. They may have thought us pretentious/stupid, but not naive!

Within the next couple days IC we can nab CR16 and Empathy 11. Does that sound reasonable?

Oh wow. Holy shit. That's ballsy and ruthless.
Go for it. As recent past demonstrated, ballsy and ruthless plans are the way to victory!

Realistically I don't expect anyone else here to go for it.
Don't worry, I will support your plan fully and exclusively in order to signal my continued interest in medium-risk high-reward plans as well as in order to to make a risky joke of a related nature, safe in the knowledge that nobody else except perhaps Vecht will join us vote for you!

Yes to both, though I would personally prefer a bit more in Empathy.

Are we sure that sending a secret message to Orochimaru while we are in political hot waters is a good idea? We don't really know what the general plan for Oro is, the Clan council is possible informed that he is in Leaf, and trying to talk to him via summoning could be seen as treasonous, if somehow someone figures out that we did that.

Maybe just talk to the current guy who is in charge?

But I would like to talk to Oro about the Capybara summoning scroll, he needs to proof that he is best uncle after all.

@faflec

Would you be open to reformatting the Oro section? OOC this is just to get a line of communication with Oro, but IC we can phrase it as trying to keep lines of communication open with folks who we suspect might be at the battle and are Jiraiya's confidants.

E: And I don't personally care but it seems to be a quick fix to that that ensures we don't miss out on an opportunity if enough folks are paranoid concerned about it

Also, I'm pretty sure Nakano & co are wrong about mudfoots not allowed to get mednin Training and we know exactly how to verify this: There is a certain someone, who excells as mednin and almost certainly a clanless ninja. He prefers to go by the name of Yakushi Kabuto.

@faflec can you add asking him about medics to this section:

Investigate Leaf policy on teaching Sealing, MedNin, and Technique Hacking.
  • Consult the library, a tower clerk, Ebisu...

Ahh...I wouldn't mind, but would prefer a better...explanation? reasoning? for establishing communication. We already have Jiraiya for communication and the safer bet for getting more people would have been Tsunade, not Orochimaru.

FMPOV "They might both be dead?" is beyond sufficient to justify reaching out to more people, but your mileage may vary there. Depends on the degree we're roleplaying Properly Paranoid Ninja , maybe?

Finally, @faflec what do you think about adding a direct quote from J-man when he discussed the implications of Hiashi getting the hat with us? The one where he talked about going missing-nin and how he could protect himself but not us? I think it would help to set the tone that this isn't us trying to hurt Leaf.
Not sure where this is meant to be added, sorry.

Done.

Completely changed that part to include Tsunade.
[X] Action Plan: Manor Snakes

Word Count: 297
  • Ask Keiko to check if Jiraiya survived/won via Pangolins.
  • Consider establishing communications with Orochimaru/Tsunade.
    • Talk with our teammates IFF it's safe (secure + full OPSEC protection). If they agree, get Jiraiya's approval/help.
    • Concern: If Jiraiya dies we won't have any way to know how the Nagi Island battle went.
      • Tsunade (Slugs) and Orochimaru (Snakes) could be contacted to ask them directly instead of waiting.
    • Hazou asks Keiko to send Pangolin couriers via Summoning Realm, or vice versa.
  • Get settled in Leaf.
    • Hug Mari. We missed her.
    • Update her and Kagome on everything. Ask what's happened since we left.
      • If something super traumatic happened, make sure nobody does anything stupid, especially us.
  • Get to work. Discuss and work together with the clan.
    • Investigate Merchant Council members' finances, rumours, and political affiliation.
      • Maybe Keiko's fans might have information?
    • Talk to Kagome at length about what he's been up to.
      • You once expressed interest in writing. Are you still interested? How can we help?
      • Has he talked with Ebisu, and has he approved Kagome's teaching methods to the Academy?
      • Offer to invite the Academy Headmaster to a fancy dinner to help further Kagome's educational agenda.
    • Continue funding till'n'fills (up to 両100,000).
      • Pay a logistics officer (or ask Keiko) to collect data on till-n-fill distributions.
      • Let Nakano's team (and Yūdai) know beforehand.
    • Arrange some lunches or game nights with other Acting Clan Heads (ISC, Shino, Kiba...) to establish better rapport.
    • Help out clanless ninja with good records.
      • Try emulating Ami's favor economy. Offer healing, seals, training, or advance warning before we fund mission bounties (till'n'fills).
      • Investigate Leaf policy on teaching Sealing, MedNin, and Technique Hacking.
        • Consult the library, a tower clerk, Ebisu, Kabuto...
    • Invite Akane over to eat, train...simple stuff.

Completely changed that part to include Tsunade.
I'm concerned that this could result in us contacting Tsunade and leaving it at that ... but I'll try to get back to you later tonight with something more appropriate and less "treason?"-adjacent.

Don't think we actually know that, I'm pretty sure that text is from back when Compels in exchange for FP were still a thing.
