Apparently Summon Scrolls are complexly interlinked composites of literal hundreds of sub-seals. They're by far the most complex thing ever devised in the setting that we're aware of, and far more complex than any other seal. A fair number of people in canon believe that all the rest of sealing was learned by studying them, which suggests they existed before humans knew any sealing. That's why the leading contenders for how they came to exist are aliens or time travel.

In short, it would be nice but humanity doesn't have the sealing knowledge yet. If we build a university system and robust scientific process maybe we'll get there eventually in decades or centuries.

The "Summon Scrolls are really complex seals" theory comes from Jiraiya exclusively, I'd like to note. Kagome, also an expert sealmaster, had a very different take on it. I'd caution against making far-reaching assumptions here, as we have very little information to go on when it comes to Summon Scroll nature and origins.

Kagome is also not a summoner who has had direct access to his own summoning scroll for 30+ years, however.

It's confirmed that we could make storage scrolls that seal/unseal contents at a distance.
It is?

As a much simpler intermediate step, can we make the chakra alarm seal not respond to your own chakra?
Ah, yes. "Create biometric filter capable of uniquely identifying individual people". That's definitely simpler than "detect chakra". :p
They may mean the implosion giganuke. I don't recall if that has actually been tested?
It has not so far as I know.

To be fair , "Same chakra as the guy who infused me" or "Different chakra than the guy who infused me" also accomplishes the goal, instead of something that requires being able to pick out individuals with that level of granularity.

Edit: Original wording didn't really get my point across clearly. Bah, phoneposting.

Regarding bringing Akane into the clan, I think that it is probably a good idea---though we need to hear more about the potential downsides from people who know better. However, although we are perfectly rational reasoning and planning engines not influenced at all by affection for any given fictional character nor by a desire to see more of her, and so whereas our decision---and therefore Hazou's---will, of course, not be tainted or unduly influenced by romantic considerations, how Hazou is seen counts. Bringing her in, Hazou might be seen as compromised.

More seriously, one approach might be for Hazou to raise the question, admit that he may be compromised, and ask the rest of the clan to debate without him, under Chatham House Rule, then let him know the majority decision. I wouldn't be surprised if Nara already have procedures like that.

In any case, we probably shouldn't rush until we learn whether or not Jiraiya survived. Also, did we ever found out what Tsundae did to her? My money is on the whole crossing the line thing being a test, which Akane passed. At the same time, I don't see her as Tsundae's student---unless Tsundae wants a non-mednin as one, which I guess could happen.

I was thinking more "same chakra as the person who activated me". But yeah, that's the idea.

In addition, did we already test whether the alarm seals respond to nature chakra?

Hiashi: "What are these 'blindspots' of which you speak?"

The Byakugan actually doesn't have full 360° coverage and a tiny blind spot somwhere at the back in canon.

That is why the Hyuuga have to counter this by moving their heads around to get full 360° coverage.

Incidentally, Neji has some major bird symbolism going on in canon.
Hmm.

Bah.

Didn't J-man issue an explanation along with his warning?
Nope.

Not edit: Unsurprisingly, I was faflec'd.

Yeah, but she has no reason to think it exists in the Human Path.

Yeet count: 396
[x] Action Plan: Yeet the dab

Contingencies

  • Keiko: Routinely check in at the Pangolin-Toad embassy every few hours to see if theres any news.
  • Check plans beforehand with Keiko/Noburi as appropriate.

Loose Ends
  • Make seals(Banshee Slayers and Earbusters) for the next 6 hours, hand them off to Jiraiya before either of you leave Mist.
    • Pack some storage seals filled with food as well.
  • Say bye to Mom, thanks for the advice about killing intent.
    • *gallows humor* So, any advice on being a clan heir?
    • The next few months are probably going to be tough. Hazou will find a way to keep in touch, though. Everything is going to be ok.
  • On the way back
    • Socialize with your fellow Leaf ninja.
    • Be wary! You are perfect targets for an ambush.
  • Homecoming
    • Update Mari and Kagome on everything.
      • Hug Mari. It's good to see her!
      • We missed you guys.
    • What's happened while we were away?
    • Steel yourself for the inevitable reveal that everything has gone to heck and that you now need to fix everything.
      • In case of super traumatic news, make sure no one leaves the compound to do anything stupid.
        • This goes double for yourself.
Delegation

  • Delegate the following tasks to clan mates. Make it clear that the next week is going to be an all-hands-on-deck situation. Everyone needs to be on the same page. Discuss any concerns, alter things as necessary and thank them sincerely afterwards.
    • Kagome:
      • Could you please use Calligraphy to make fancy invitations to send to people as appropriate?
    • Keiko:
      • Could you work out the clan's financial situation?
      • Might have to use your merchant "fans"-- I guess thats what they are?-- as a path to make inroads with the Merchant Council. Acceptable?
    • Noburi
      • Work your magic on Keiko's "Fan Club" to get the identity of prominent Merchant Council members. Get as much actionable info as possible.
    • Mari:
      • If you're feeling up to it, help where you can.
  • Schedule the following lunches/dinners later this week for the siblings to attend
    • Hinata/Neji/Hanabi
      • They're important members of a prominent clan, so socialization with them is important.
    • ISC
      • Ditto the above.
    • Shino and Kiba
      • Ditto the above. Ish.
    • Misc.
      • Block off several time slots later in the week in case of extra lunch/dinner meetings.

Not so sure what 'exchange contact info' is supposed to mean in a world without phones (postal address?), but the rest of this all seems reasonable.

[x] Action Plan: Yeet the dab

  • Make seal blanks for the next 6 hours.
  • Say bye to Mom, thanks for the advice
    • Please don't mess with Zabuza, take it from us its a bad idea.
  • Say bye to foreign nin, exchange contact info and promises to keep in touch.
  • On the way back to Leaf, speak to Asuma and/or ISC on the subject of Leaf clan politics.
    • Try to get a quick crash course on it.
  • Get back to Leaf.
    • Update Mari and Kagome on everything.
    • What's happened while we were away?
    • Steel yourself for the inevitable reveal that everything has gone to heck since you left, and that you (of course) now need to fix everything.

I'm mostly okay with this plan. Though I think it's pretty condescending that we feel the need to tell Hana not to mess with Zabuza. Yeah she made a big mistake with the way she treated Mari, but I imagine she has some sense of personal preservation. She's not going to pick a fight with someone she can't beat for literally no gain. She didn't even directly pick a fight with Mari. Both instances where she interacted negatively with the woman came from other people forcing the interaction (first time Mari, second time us). Also I wouldn't be surprised if Zabuza is in a hospital bed right now, or in a holding cell.

Also, I might be being a bit paranoid, but I think if we want to get lessons on Leaf clan politics, we might want to do it somewhere indoors away from prying eyes. Letting people know that we're so lost with politics that we need other people to teach us the basics might be giving away a bit too much. Though I suppose it's possible that the cat's already out of the bag on that one.

I notice that they're "post-interaction" surveys, and not "post-conversation" surveys. Do we hand them out after fights, as well?
