Alternative for Keiko:

Propose a sparring match under tournament rules to determine the winner, then choreograph something flashier for the crowd.

I'm not opposed to this, although I'd suggest using the opportunity to seriously mislead spectators about one or both of our abilities instead of just putting on a show.

Hopefully her Wind technique helps out there. Failing that, she probably should have put more of her XP into Substitution instead of Ghost Scales or PH. Ah well.

Here are my suggested edits:

1)Removed "What does Jiraiya think of Kotsuzui's strength relative to other candidates?" as its a bit spurious at the moment. It's not really necessary info at the moment, and we can always ask it later if it becomes relevant or we are curious. These are also things that aren't quite so simple to compare, different specializations and all.
2) "Talk to the team privately" => "Talk to the following individually and in private"

Mentioning Ami around Keiko is at best a bit rude, since we know she is a very private person and wouldn't appreciate us prying. Best not to do this with her present. As far as I see it, these are mutually exclusive elements of the plan.

3) "We'd rather not trash talk..." => "Trash talk is out..." (Its self evident that neither one of us want to do some stupid insult fight before the match, I believe, when we can do something more productive that casts the both of us in a better light).
4) Asked Jiraiya a sealing question. (Extend me some faith on the wordcount expenditure here since I think this may be relevant to future combat plans. Nonetheless it is good info to know for future munchkinry)
5)Added "Make more explosives.". Y'know we can refill our expended reserves, and worst comes to worst we can sell the extra and use it to fund some good stuff.

[EDITS] Action Plan: Wrapping Up/Setting Up
  1. Stay and watch the remaining match.
    • Take a few minutes to wash up first.
    • Thank Noburi and Keiko for their help.
    • Go cheer for Chouji alongside Ino and Shikamaru, if Keiko and Noburi want to.
    • After the match, find Hinata and ask her out to lunch. (Placeholder, see discussion below.)
  2. Talk to following individually and in private
    • Jiraiya:
      • We appreciate the tips, sir. What now?
      • Would us trapping the arena beforehand be considered cheating?
        • If YES, maybe Jiraiya could get this banned by rubbing our win in to the other Kages?
      • What does he know about Keiko's sister Ami? Hazou would like to try to repair their relationship, but isn't sure where to start.
      • Hey can you string seals along ninja wire. Puncture it somewhere away from the ink and run the wire through?
    • Keiko:
      • Ask if she wants to talk about our upcoming match. If yes...
        • Ask if she wants to do an exhibition match (like the Sand Genin) to show off our tournament-restricted skills.
        • Tell her that we think she has the best chance at winning the tournament, but we will fight seriously because she deserves our respect
        • Unrelated: What about our speech? Trash talk is out..so maybe something Uplift-y?
    • Noburi:
      • We appreciate the hard work done on the crowd.
      • If he still feels down:
        • Give him a massive bear hug.
        • Jokingly: Maybe he wants to tell us about his S-Rank mission?
        • Afterwards, hand him a post-interaction survey.
      • Carefully ask if he wants to meet his family. He mentioned them earlier and Hazou (possibly Keiko too?) would be willing to accompany him to meet them as his support, should he decide to.
  3. Misc.
    • Make more explosives.

Ok, done. Also added asking Jiraiya about being friendly with Hinata. Do you think sending her a letter asking for a meeting at her convenience, along with a meaningful bouquet of flowers, as @TaliesinSkye proposed?

If we wanted to be cute about how we approach Hinata we could send her flowers with the connotations of secrets and meetings in the Leaf flower language. Hazo is aware of it existing after that practical joke that got played on him with the apology bouquet. She's competent enough to find us if she wants to take up our invitation to talk, and leaving her to pick the time and place will help her feel less like it's a trap.

I don't think thats necessarily a bad opening move, but I'm not sure how viable the idea is anyway (Hiashi might forbid her from hanging out for fear of sabotage).

Walk me through this one a little bit. What's the motivation for doing this? Get to know her a bit more?

It'd be a big win if we could find common ground with Hinata that didn't involve the families being in a death struggle for dominance. We need to find out what she wants, whether she's happy with the current state of affairs or if she'd like things to change in a positive way. Maybe we could even get her onboard with the uplift agenda.

Steal the plan and remove that part.

Good idea.

You guys can be such debbie downers at times. I haven't even put that in the plan, and you want to remove it already!

Basic motivation is for Hazou to get to know her a bit better, and for us to understand if we can use her (alongside Neji) as a means of fixing the horrible relationship between the Hyuuga and the Goketsu. Even if Jiraiya keeps the hat, the Hyuuga are going to be very influential and incredibly capable of sabotaging our reforms in Leaf. She'd also work as a measure of insurance against the worst-case scenario - if she's a decent person, she might take issue with Hiashi essentially trying to kill all of us off out of spite.

Hazou's relative ease at making friends is an ability I'd like to get more mileage out of in general.

And from a dramatic point of view, I think an honest conversation between Hinata and Hazou could make for a cool scene for the Evil One to write.

Would it not be easier to start with Shino or Kiba then? Seems like it would be an easier start.

A thousand times this. Especially Shino, who hasn't acted like a dick (and from a metagaming perspective is more on our side than the Hyuga's).

I wonder what the thread is doi--

> sending Hinata "meaningful" flowers
> asking Jiraiya for advice in sending Hinata "meaningful" flowers

...

Jiraiya is going to troll us, isn't he? XD

Maybe we should ask someone else. Keiko maybe? She probably memorized the system (because she memorizes everything) and would see the potential in negotiating a truce through side channels.

Also, while amusing this does bring up the serious point that we could, in theory, one day play the uniting rival houses through political marriage card. Not that I'm saying we should, but...well, it's an option. Goketsu and Hyuga bound together in a marriage alliance would collectively have the political clout to practically run Leaf any way they liked.

What's the point of doing that, though? The Aburame are essentially neutral, and I don't get the impression that the Inuzuka want us dead either.

And I really want some kind of sanity check for the Hiashi's vendetta hypothesis, because we really need to start acting differently if it's true.

I'm fine being careful not to trip the romcom flags if that's what you're all worried about. Getting Hazou mixed up in some kind of Romeo and Juliet situation sounds absolutely hilarious though.

The Aburame/Inuzuka not having a vendetta against us doesn't mean they won't know if Hiashi has an effective vendetta against us.

I'm also worried that trying to improve our relationship with Hinata's teammates while ignoring her will make the whole thing look like the political manoeuvring that it is and make Hazou's relationship with Hinata adversarial. Which is not the case right now and I'd like to keep it that way.

Let's just grab barbecue with ISC after the matches for today are done.

The obvious solution would be to invite them (and the ISC, don't make them feel left out) out to dinner. Leaf-nin solidarity and all that. I dunno.

That, too, sounds good. Why not ask ISC, since they're also politically inclined and we already have good relations with them?

Romeo and Juliet except everyone involved are ninjas probably wouldn't end well. But yes, hilarious until the blood and the screaming.

Sanity checking the vendetta hypothesis and figuring out what Hinata wants for her clan are definitely important.
