And 40 Econ a turn is already well past what we're capable of producing. So.
This does make you realize that even just a few centuries before, the idea of spending 8 econ a turn would have been unthinkable, and now we just kinda shrug and go 'Eh, we've had worse.'

Hell, it really shows how much we've grown, where 8 econ used to be our max at one point, while now a fluctuation of 8 in a single phase is perfectly understandable and not that hard to work around.

None of which explains your multiple orders of magnitude.
"Multiple orders of magnitude" came from me assuming you had a better idea of our ability to produce econ, and to how much that'd change with the Dam, and so were assuming the policy would cost less.

That assumption does get wrecked if you simply have an absurd belief of how much econ we can actually put out, instead.

Even if I'm somehow insane and think it would cost 1 Econ, the minimum you could mean is 100; mind sharing how you might come to that estimate?

@Academia Nut,
We had mercury, glass and alchemists for a while, did anyone figure out the trick where you turn a glass container filled with mercury upside down to show the empty space formed before pressure differential stops the mercury?
(Developing the idea of a vacuum in the process)

Optimism time! Assuming everything goes vaguely as planned, we have a path to success. Therefore, I want to speculate on Values and Legacies we may acquire once this is done. I've done it a little, but I'm going to neaten it up here.

Value Evolution:

Lord's Loyalty->Imperial Aegis
-Though they may not be our own people, the ties between us tie tightly. In exchange for their allegiance, they deserve our protection and aid, the same as any of the People.
Pros:
+2 subordinate states, subordinate states significantly less likely to break away, increased power of Influence and Integrate Vassal.
Cons:
Minimum force commitment in defense of subordinates and allies increased two steps, significantly worse consequences for failure to assist

*Note, the original Lord's Loyalty misspells defense as "defence"

New Legacies:

Four They Were (Three)
-Pestilence, Famine, War, Death. The four horsemen of the apocalypse. Let us fight against the darkness, and forge a new path.
-Gained by defeating three major diseases, and retaining the knowledge of how.
-Possible Benefits: Increased disease check rolls, early warning of new diseases, start anti-disease actions in a different path.

Direct Control (Five)
-The scribes are used to control large amounts of territory without proper infrastructure and have found shortcuts on how to administrate them.
-Gained by having five provinces above admin strain free provinces
-Possible Benefits: +1(2?) Admin strain free provinces

I encourage anyone to come up with new ones. This can be fun!

So, what I'm getting from this is that we should get a ton more Palace Annexes and spam Governor Palaces?
I've been saying we really want Palace Annexes for a while now.
Admittedly, I've had a rather unfavorable view towards GPs, but I've been warming to them as we had more annex bonuses come up. I guess it is exactly those bonuses that justify the GPs' cost.

That puts us at... 16? Wealth after overflow. Not bad.
Keep in mind that that overflow happens at end-of-turn. I expect that we are quite unlikely to get that far with all those stats intact.

So, anyone have a guess what's up with the west? I mean, would they have taken this time to rebel? Seems kinda silly, since the Core is actually coming off pretty strong, while the WY are broken, so there's nothing to rally behind.

Anyone else have an idea of what could be blocking them from even trying to communicate?

Talking of Panem, it should have made the Liquidity Crisis significantly worse by reducing velocity. It was an anti-solution.

We survived despite that, but it was just about the worst possible option on the list in monetary terms.

We literally sent out a message of 'shut down everything,' and most only trade by sea, so...

They may very well have just decided to rebel, or be in complete disarray.

Same thing that's blocking us, I'd guess, they are trying not to starve locally. Or maybe the government broke down, so no one is sending reports.

Also, @Academia Nut, update soon, or can I go to sleep?

I think I favor building one after doing two Main Roads and building Arsenal level 4 plus one of Garden level 2 or Storehouse level 3, then building another after a third Main Roads and two more annexes.

I think it's clear that If we aren't using palace annexes, we're wasting slots.

I think it's just the fact that we were isolated and haven't had the chance to see them at all.

We know Txolla and Thunder Horse are still loyal because we sent troops down there against the Nomads and because they sent an envoy.

It could be that the colonies are too busy with the plague.
It could be that they decided to quietly rebel.
It could be that they got wrecked by some other band of Nomads or bandits or something.

We have no way of knowing for sure.

Well......
I can list all the ways in which Purity can fuck us up, or whip up a list of possible debilitating beliefs? :V

For example, Purity merges into Arete cue caste system.

Or, more reasonably, our values always influence each other, so even without outright merge Purity and Arete are going to influence each other (those are quite compatible traits in some interpretations).
Although us getting all the nomads should ameliorate the issues, I assume.
