Alright, so we see Jin give away these two in this chapter (see below), but he never mentions the KEI technique that we have to decide on. Does that mean that it's not a water technique? Do we know loosely what it does? It'll be a lot easier to wave it off if it's nothing special, but if it's actually pretty good we may have to consider it…

Agreed, just asking for due diligence. My preference would be to tell Jin to disregard that order, ideally in a way that shows him we respect his commitment to keeping his word instead of that we don't want to bother with the KEI's reprisal.
Maybe we should recommend that Jin consider teaching the jutsu to KEI ninja, as Haru recommended. It was a good idea, and it would go a long way to show that we both value the KEI and are actually considering/implementing the suggestions our adoptees give us.
So. What just are we doing with skysliders? Did it ever get used in war? It's probably under development and I have no idea how Asuma would use it.

Plan makers, this chapter could we try getting some weapons testing done? With MARS, we've had the ability to make stationary artillery for a while now.
Storage seals, skywalkers, 5sb, and a cast of Earth shaping is all you need to replicate heavy aircraft weaponry.
1.Create a skytower
2. Dump a couple thousand pounds of stone out of storage seals
3. Earthshape the stone into a cannon shape with a nearly airtight projectile
4. 5sb the cannon
6. Arm the cannon with MARS and a thousand explosives of choice
7. Run away or hide behind a barrier seal, fire!

I have vague recollections of the MARS trigger delays making it so the first explosion destroyed the other seals without setting them off.

What? They should all be going off at the same time. Mars can do ten iterations in a round.
Iterations 1-9 are just more MARS, while iteration 10 is all explosives.
When we use Mars in combat we alternate the triggers because we want some things to happen sequentially, but there's no reason it *needs* to happen like that

I like to think that sitting down and talking with Yuno is a conversation with stakes, and discussing Mio with Kei and Mari can either be left offscreen ("you communicated your concerns: they think that bringing someone unstable onto the necromancy project is insane, that she'd break any oath you had her swear if she went back to the KEI, and that neither the Nara nor the Yamanaka would be willing take her. They'll work on her, as she doesn't seem to like you.") or it's actually going to be interesting.

This should be obvious, but don't sign the damned thing.
Note that this is written as an order to turn over only KEI jutsu, to spark maximum outrage if revealed.
If we sign it, Jin intends to immediately turn this note over to the KEI, and we'd have enormous issues on our hands.
And it'd be pretty understandable for him to do so tbh. He'd be making public the true information that Hazou ordered him to betray a promise to a dead friend/mentor, and may be undermining the KEI jutsu exchange.
If this was any other clan, the hivemind would be decisively on Jin's side here.

I'm not sure that this actually goes against what I'm saying? There being a non-zero delay between a given Mars activating and the seal it's activating means that you can't stuff an arbitrarily high number of explosives in a wad and expect it to work, you can't have explosives as part of the chain; they need to all be on the same layer of the stack.
"Infinite explosives ball" would be an endless Mars chain with each Mars connecting to one Mars and one explosive. I'm suggesting a chain of 9 MARS-MARS, which results in a total of 256 MARS, each connected to two explosives for a total of 512 simultaneous explosions.
If the delay between MARS seals activating is *inconsistent* then this shouldn't work, but that's not the constraints we have afaik.

What I want to add here (and to all other plans like this one) is a request to either Asuma or the Toad Sages (or both) to try and recreate the [bark] crystal with a dedicated TH jutsu. There are advantages to approaching either party here, but both of them should be willing to help given the direct relevance this jutsu has to the Dragonwar.
Here's a couple ways it could be phrased:
- Show Asuma the [bark] crystal and ask him to reproduce it with TH. A supply of material like this is the last thing we need to figure out 3D Sealing.
- Tell the Toad Sages about our progress on 3D Sealing. Show them the [bark] crystal and ask them to reproduce it with TH. A supply of material like this is the last thing we need to start 3D Sealing and actually begin figuring out the Great Seal.
- Separately, give Asuma and the Toad Sages each one piece of the [bark] crystal, and ask each of them to reproduce it with TH. A supply of material like this is the last thing we need to figure out 3D Sealing.
There's also the OPSEC consideration, of course: if Asuma is one of the parties we consult here, we need to make sure Orochimaru doesn't learn of our progress (the other OPSEC risks of Asuma knowing about the [bark] crystal are negligible, since this kind of information even if shared doesn't bring anyone any closer to Primordial Sealing, especially given how many harsh roadblocks the discipline has). I've talked about this before, but in short I broadly believe Asuma will agree with Hazou's concerns and estimation here, and won't have a problem with waiting until Hazou's initially explored the field before cluing Orochimaru in. To ward off against Oro-risks, I propose the following sub-bullet-point:
- Ask Asuma to keep this secret from Orochimaru. Hazou wants to explore 3D Sealing before Orochimaru on the off chance it's so powerful Orochimaru can't be allowed to have it. Once we verify that Orochimaru won't become an existential threat with its power, it will then be safe to share our progress.
