I would really like for this chapter to start with Mari assuming command and signalling to PMYF out the window, completely overriding Hazou's suicidal plan.

That would be nice.

It's not a suicidal plan; it's a risky plan. There's a difference. Just lie back and think of all the sweet, sweet xp. Powerful ninja don't get that way without powering themselves from the trauma of all the loved ones they've lost along the way, right?

Hazou chose to fight a jonin.

At that point the difference between risk and suicide is mere semantics.

We only get the XP if we survive.

What's with all the defeatism after you voted in the plan? And before you see the results, either? No point in complaining now, just pray to the RNG and plot about the future.

I don't think that's a good way to go. It would solve the immediate crisis and not be that out of character, but it would also poison the quest. Why are we playing if we can't even fuck up?

When are we supposed to wallow in misery if not now? After the update drops we will be busy trying to scrounge up a plan to fix things. That's not the proper time to feel sorry for ourselves.

I was slightly too late to vote. I really would have preferred Run Away.
@eaglejarl, please, please use that +10 on whatever roll we need to keep everyone alive, even if the plan said otherwise.

Because I would regret not obsessively checking my Alerts while I was in the middle of writing something, and I'd do so for the rest of the game, and that would be an absolutely terrible habit?

Mari has assumed tactical command before.

And we are explicitly deciding what Hazou does, not what the team does.

It's only reasonable to assume that Mari might ignore and override Hazou if he gave stupid signals.

I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree that Mari being our commanding officer and choosing to ignore our bad suggestions is the same as us not being able to fuck up.

The die is cast. Try to look on the bright side and have a sense of humor about it is all I'm saying.

I do kind of like that narrative arc that what at first appeared to be a simple mission got more and more complex (while at the same time obviously far more important than we first thought) and we dug in our heels and decided to carry it through. Whatever is going on here, I think obviously it's not some standard message. This was high level, super-important communications... I mean, not only a jounin guard but the extra spies and tattooing it on someone's body?

I don't know what the resolution will be, but I do trust that even if a member of the group gets killed it will lead to opening the gate to far more interesting opportunities. A group that can pull off this mission goes from "random folks off the street" to "skilled operatives who can get shit done and are worthy of respect". Not even taking into account what we may learn from deciphering the tattoos.

So yeah, try to be optimistic.

Lets hope we roll good. :(
...Maybe Nobby will think to clean up the floor with his water whip while we wait for the door to open.

A bit of comments before quest concludes because of TPK:
P.S. All in favor of avoiding Deniable Asset Quest and just focusing on making friends in various countries for our network from here on in? This whole trip would have been a smashing success if we just showed up and became BFFs with Honami.
I am in. I generally hate quests because they are an out for lazy players and rob players of agency. Let's focus on trade empire, people!
A better idea would be to make the seals directionalized, like Kagome's explosive tags. Or we could make seals that, when activated, dampen sound/light, since lower visual/auditory ability might be a bad thing in a ninja fight.
I sometimes maage to blind myself with a flashlight. Directionalized seals are a great idea, but we shouldn't ditch goggles anyway.
We should work out how to seal clones. Or make clone seals. Something like that so we can create an army right quick.
Sealing clones is interesting. Spawning clones with a seal, on the other hand, is just asking to cause gray goo scenario.
YEAH GUYZ LETS FUCKING FIGHT HURR DURR
I feel you. I spent most of pre-update planning trying to convince everyone that fighting combat-oriented jounin is dumb (seriously, people, how is it not obvious?), and people still voted for fighting plan.

Are you trolling, or are you really that optimistic? o_O

I am now convinced you are trolling. Nobody is that optimistic in real life. :V

Oh, one more thing.
Who wants to write Akane's epitaph? We will need it tomorrow, I think.

Seal Akane's body as quickly as possible to avoid information theoretic death?

Wait, if there's souls in the narutoverse, we don't need to do that. But I think we should do that, just in case.

like the Second Hokage being able to raise the dead to fight for him
The good news is that we know it's possible, based on stories of Edo Tensei being real. The bad news is that we have no fucking idea what the requirements are, and I don't think "sample of DNA + living victim + handseals" is gonna cut it. It sounds several billion times too easy, and I get the feeling it's not true necromancy (Resurrection Stone vs. v2 Horcrux).

Soooo anybody wanna place bets on whether the death of a teammate leads to a sweet iron nerve upgrade? /s

Honestly I'm wishing I had pushed harder for blowing up the wall and running :(

Wasn't around for voting, but yeah. I would have voted for blow up wall and run for our lives. I think someone from our group will survive though, so the quest probably won't end? Might need to switch to controlling Kagome though.

Also, did we put any contingencies about Noburi not being front line combat material? Because I'm pretty sure he's worse than the others, and if he dies or is injured, we're screwed.

You didn't push for it at all mate. When I asked you why you wanted to fight you said we couldn't run due to the bottlenecked window which could have easily been avoided with PMYF.

Ignore me I'm venting.

(I did put up a plan with it, but yeah I didn't push for it, so pushing harder wouldn't have been hard :p)

It's cool dude, vent all you need, I think we're just coming from very different assumptions about how fast we'd get out the window. My nightmare scenario is that two of us leave, then J busts in and easily slaughters the other 3 because of the lack of mass combat support.

Um...ok I guess but I don't understand why you'd think we can't Kawarimi out all at once? I don't think the rules say only one Kawarimi in an area or something like that so...

*sighs, reminisces about what could have been if plan "Squash him against the ceiling" didn't require changes to physics in order to work*

You know, if this were canon naruto, physics would change in our favour to make things like that work. As long as we're more protagonisty than the people we're fighting.

Yeah, thinking it through with more sleep the mechanics would probably have worked out. I think it didn't click for me that we would be ditching the civilians in exchange for speed, which was dumb of me and I'm sorry.
