Can anyone explain how the Hyuuga benefit from this scheme (except insofar as Gouketsu take a hit)? The Hag benefit because they make major purchases with the about-to-be-worthless scrip, but the Hyuuga don't seem to get anything but their money back (e: not even that, since the mastermind thought the scrip would be worthless, not refunded).
This, in addition to "Ritsuo using Hinata" being more likely than "Hinata using Ritsuo" is why I haven't voted for the plan yet.

Could you expand on this? I'm not seeing how Asuma wouldn't intervene before the economy crashed/Bad Things happened.
The goal of the mastermind seems to be "cause a bank run, the scrip becomes worthless, Hazou is left with a ton of debt that he could never reasonably pay back, the Gouketsu are left in poverty for generations and are no longer a threat", as far as I can tell.

Except this has mostly happened already, with Asuma's intervention? The bank run already happened, the scrip is getting axed, we're still left with a fuckton of debt that need rabbits to fix, and we're (ATM) stuck in poverty that we (again) need rabbits to fix.

@faflec , I think @MadScientist analyzes what happened and his analysis shows that Hyuuga are not culprits, which I tentatively agree with
Yeah, I think their plan mostly succeeded.
Looking at the timeline, what we see is
- Hag and Hyuuga buy a lot of scrip each.
- Hyuuga hold their scrip. Hag make expensive purchases.
- Bank run happens, suddenly scrip is worthless.
Ah.
I suppose that is one reason why Hinata might be the mastermind. The Hagoromo have got these expensive things they've bought, but Hazou would be in debt to Hinata specifically. If Hinata was the mastermind, then Asuma buying all the scrip and transferring the debt from "Hinata-owned" to "tower-owned" would be the plan going wrong.
On balance, I still think Ritsuo is the mastermind, but putting a financial leash on Hazou to control him would be a fairly compelling motive.
They don't, anymore. The Tower bought the scrip from them (for which the Gouketsu owe the tower).

The current discussion asking "what did the Hyuuga get out of this?" is compelling, but my take was that they just dislike us (maybe not even Hinata personally, just clan elders) and would jump on the chance to screw us over.

Aren't the Hyuuga poor (relative to Noble Voting Clans) in terms of Ryo, but wealthy in regards to land/business/connections/whatever? Their goal may be to get a new source of income via debt.

CLEARLY, HINATA DECIDED TO ACCEPT RITSUO'S PLAN BECAUSE SHE WORKED WITH HAZOU IN THE CHUUNIN EXAMS AND KNEW THAT HE IS A DANGEROUSLY MAD GENIUS, THUS EXPECTED THAT HAZOU WOULD OVERCOME THE BANK RUN, WHILE SHE IS STILL APPEARING TO BE STRONG AND ANTAGONISTIC TOWARDS HIM FROM HYUUGA ELDERS' POV, BOOSTING HER OWN CLAN CREDIBILITY WITHOUT SERIOUSLY DAMAGING ANYTHING

IT IS EVEN MORE CLEAR THAT RITSUO WOULD KNOW THAT HINATA WOULD THINK THAT AND WOULD THEREFORE IMPLEMENT THE NEXT STAGE OF HER 43 STEP PLAN JUST AS THE GOUKETSU SEEM TO RECOVER, PROVING THEIR STRENGTH ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!
