To be clear, that was a figurative statement. We didn't literally mean "You can do anything except this one thing", we meant "You are extremely rich and we're not going to bother thinking about money again unless you try something truly excessive."

In MfD? I know there was one mention of something related to her and seals but I can't remember it.

Pulling a @faflec is difficult on mobile, but I can plant the seeds to ease the retrieval by mentioning that they were referenced during Tenten and Keiko's first training where swapping armaments was mentioned as a weapons-specialist's weakness followed by Keiko demanding them in the scene where she moved on to a pet chakra-chameleon chakra pony from Jiraiya.

Tenten has storage seals up her sleeves (recall: in Chapter XY, Kagome prohibited this idea because AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) for unsealing weapons that are proprietary of (unknown sealmaster), according to Jiraiya.

CF: Chapter 216, I think.

It's the first or second scene (there's an ANBU one that was particularly unimpressed by the doom glare and one with Jiraiya almost right after), the same one with the chakra pony bit. IIRC it was a grue-tease as well. Or something about chakra chameleons? *shrug*

(The activation energy for clicking through the threadmark index and hunting it down was less than just typing this out.)

"Ten years old?" Jiraiya inquired curiously from behind him as Kei stood frozen with shock.

"My best guess. You forget, Lord Hokage: I've had the delight of meeting your beautiful young wife in person. She must have given birth to little Keiko at a very early age."

Mari-sensei? Give birth to her? Kei's brain decided to suspend operations rather than process either the image or its implications.

"Here, little girl, no need to be shy. Uncle Jibura always has a treat for his customers' children. With your permission, Lord Hokage?"

"Go ahead," Jiraiya replied, taking advantage of his position out of the man's line of sight to allow himself to shake with silent laughter.

He would pay. They would all pay.

The appalling man pulled a small, paper-wrapped package from his pack. "I've got some special eastern candy just for you, little Keiko. Would you like some?"
"Fine. A chakra collie, and I'll throw in some free books of your choice."

"One is enough, thank you, and you are already overdue on providing the clan with a well-stocked library. Chakra chameleon, if you please, and a set of custom shuriken seals as used by Tenten."

"Sorry, didn't quite catch that."

"I said I wanted a"—Kei blinked—"chakra ostrich and a set of custom shuriken seals as used by Tenten."

"That's what I thought. Those things are proprietary. You want some, you ask her yourself."

1) I miss Jiraiya

2) Not sure what demon you made a deal with to have that good a memory, but can you send them my way?

3) Yeah, it was chapter 216. The way Jiraiya words it implies that Tenten herself made the seal, or perhaps someone did it themselves and gave the rights to the design/notes to her? If it's the former, I could see Gai helping Tenten navigate the legal system to get them copyrighted (or whatever the equivalent would be), or using his status as a jonin to force it through. If it's the latter, I could see Jiraiya doing something like that (maybe as a favor for Gai?). He has countless custom seals, and that one seal would've changed Tenten's entire life (not to mention giving her better chances of survival). And it would answer the question of "why does Jiraiya know that some random genin's seals are copyrighted?" (Well, it's a more interesting answer than "because spymaster," anyway).

(Alright, heading to bed for real-sies.)

I remember comparing "a country" to other stuff and thinking that it must be too high if we aren't the richest clan. But no clarification came. Is a while ago though.

Oh... [re-calibrating mental picture of Goketsu finances]
Oh
.
...Well, it's a good thing the leading plan nixes the "erase debt" plan.
Understood. Illusion of transparency, I guess -- I thought it was an obviously hyperbolic metaphor, but I guess not.

Y'know, the only thing that might be better than giving Akane a chance to confront the traitor who burned her might be discovering that Sachi and Rin have been relocated to the Gouketsu compound...

Clearly this just means eaglejarl wants us to do some more economics plots :)
I mean, narratively speaking, Mari's already subverting Leaf's economy to rely on the Goketsu. And that's not even counting the massive stores of food she's been buying up, in case the Leaf's food production is targeted. Hell, depending on how things are, she might've some something with the salterns (or maybe not, for sheer effect of "I'm not willingly going anywhere near Hazou's insane ideas").

  • Our skill pyramid is currently (18/8/5/2/1), and no level can have more skills than the previous one.
  • We have Resolve 25 (needs 140 XP to reach 30) and Shadow Clone 23 (needs 189 XP to reach 30). They are in the level of the pyramid which I bolded above.
  • We can raise one of these to level 30 (pyramid: 18/8/4/3/1). The other will be blocked at 29 until we raise at least one weaker skill to level 20.
  • However if we do that (say, by raising Calligraphy to 20) our pyramid would be 18/7/4/4/1 - which allows us to raise one of SC or Resolve to 40. Our pyramid would then be 18/7/4/3/2. This then allows us to keep doing this until it goes from 40 to 50 (leaving us at 18/7/4/3/1/1). Once we raise it to 50, this changes the shape of the pyramid so that we can raise the other skill (which had been left at 30) to 40, leaving us with a pyramid of 18/7/4/2/2/1.
So the way our pyramid is currently, we could be raising SC and resolve almost exclusively for a long, long while...
I'm not very enthusiastic about raising Calligraphy, because as shown in the quote above if we do so then we might suddenly be faced with very reasonably arguments in favor of spending the next million XP raising Shadow Clone up to 50 and then Resolve up to 40 (or vice-versa). Chakra Reserves could rise to 39 and Athletics to 47 without breaking that pyramid either. This would be ideal from a long-term XP gain perspective, but it doesn't sound very fun and doesn't sound it'd help with our short-term strength (thereby incentivizing us to avoid personal risk, etc).

Calligraphy boost will allow us to artificially level up with more seal research, regardless of what the rest of XP goes towards
We're dead-ended on several projects because Hazou just can't do them safely

Is there a set amount we're willing to divert from FOOMing? I think most people will agree that nothing but what's required of FOOM leaves us behind for a while, but doing doing FOOM is stupid. And FOOM does naturally have diversion points, for the columns if nothing else. So do we want to say allocation of 60% of XP to FOOM feedback, and 40% to other priorities? Akane and Keiko have been sinking everything into the FOOM train it seems (though Keiko has other reasons to prioritize SC, and Akane learned SC last), and the extra XP is starting to get noticeable, I would say.

[-] Training Akane: 5 clones (and Yamanaka XP) + SC commitment + Pangolin Jutsu
I agree with this. Also, after reading the rules doc, I realized that SC40 gives us another clone. Therefore, it's important to get to SC40 as soon as possible, and spending XP on Pangolin jutsu impedes that.
@JustForThis @Inferno Vulpix @FaintlySorcerous @Sentient Tree

Could I convince you to vote for

[] Training Akane: 5 clones (and Yamanaka XP) + SC commitment

instead, for reasons above? Pangolin jutsu doesn't give a mechanical benefit immediately, and banking XP for SC40 means we get there sooner and get to next level of pang jutsu (or w/e) quicker when SC40 gives Akane an additional clone.

I mean, my understanding is that EJ is totally cool with us taking economic action, especially if it's interesting and decisive and could blow up in our faces. It's the meticulous modeling and breaking if said modeling isn't exact and getting caught up in the paperwork and spreadsheets that seem miserable. (Well, miserable for most people. I enjoy that stuff, but as such I never recommend it because I can't properly weigh my own bias).

Shrug. I'd prefer to just keep ignoring it personally

Hazou is about to make a fortune selling seals tho... Shadow clone is so busted

Hey, I wonder if Ino would be willing to get involved in the Mizuki Revenge Arc? Romance complications aside, Ino and Akane are, genuinely, good friends. Ino might very well be as hungry for Mizuki's blood as Hazou is.
