To me this reads as, "this was genocide because they pursued the children who knew nothing important when they could have focused on the adults, some of whom survived."
I love 80s movies as much as the next recursively self-reflective agent, but I refuse to believe that a group of scrappy youths survived a guerilla civil war in an urban environment against an overwhelming force of elite scouts and fighters, each of whom could casually see literally anything for literally miles around them. Some adults must have survived, and they must know some pretty hefty limits to the Hyuuga blood-limit for anybody to have survived.
We should tap them for help, and then we'll know exactly what not to do.
-because the bastards have already betrayed us once to side with the Hyuuga. Whatever the opinion of the uninculcated younger generation, the elders are clearly as pragmatic and ruthless as Hinata and she will have seen that move coming. If by some dark miracle I'm wrong and it wouldn't get back to her we can ask Mari to ensure some sort of plausible leak. Thinking she's a move ahead Hinata will shift her pieces out of position while we flank her.
The question is, what flank? I seem to recall that they are actually in pretty dire financial straits after committing to get the turtle scroll and losing both the Hokage salary and most of their jounin. I also recall that they seem to be by far most heavily invested in luxury goods, which are in low demand during hard times.
Gee, what would go well with a chocolate empire?
We need to find an independent clan to coordinate with on this. Ideally one with even more clout than even the Hyuuga.
Gee, which higher founder clan has a sympathetic and widely beloved bisexual matron in charge who likes weddings and open bars?
For that matter, which higher founder clan is hosting and housing the new KEI clan and clearly under the thumb of the omnipotent sister of the wife to the head of the most important combined trio of clans in Leaf?
