I feel vaguely uncomfortable with opening the topic with "I'd be willing to do this under the following conditions", for reasons I find hard to pin down. Do you think it would work as well to frame it as something more like 'the main reasons I wouldn't be willing to give it to her' for the first two points (reframed as 'we need time to catch up to her' and such)?
Sure, why not, done.
Additional conditions I would like to see included. The recovery of all 4 remaining summon scrolls into our hands. In addition Ami commits to never learning summoning
  • Summoning Scrolls hunts: Good idea, but I don't think it's the time to bring that up. We'll roll that into "major favours" during the actual discussion with Ami.
  • Ban on learning Summoning: Mmm, I'm not sure I see the point. If Ami somehow goes double-FOOM despite our precautions and takes over the EN, she'll be able to get us on the Seventh Path too, through other Summoners. If she doesn't, our bases with our respective clans would be fairly safe whether she has a Scroll or not. Because of that, and because Summoning doesn't synergize with FOOM the same way Sealing/TH/MN do, this will just look like we're trying to arbitrarily limit her for no reason.
    • If we're going this road, it might be better to just stipulate that she'll be training according to our training regimen, optimized for increasing her survivability without making her a major threat to us. But it'll be a harder sell, which translates into her owing us less favours, which means less ability to use her for Summoning Scrolls hunts and the like.

Much happier with the plan now. The 'calculations' line seems a little weird still, given that Hazou strictly speaking doesn't even know FOOM works except by a general-principle argument that mental fortitude ought to be as uncapped as taijutsu skill, but it doesn't sound like a big deal.

I more mean that we would hav acquired all of them as an additional pre-condition to telling Ami about FOOM. This could be with or without her help.

As long as Ami not having information to find unclaimed scroll I would be fine with removing the condition on her not learning summoning

[X] It's An Emergency, Mr. Hokage.

Meet with the Hokage:
  • Sanity check with clan beforehand.
  • Bring Mari, Noburi.
  • Get a description of the lady and her escort.
  • Notifiy: A Wakahasia and her escort is missing. Already sent out a search party.
  • Speculation:
    • Worst case scenario: A third party kidnapping her for knowledge.
    • Chakra beast attack, getting lost, etc.
    • Lady is still alive. Wakahasia dragging their feet or command blunders.
  • Recommended actions: Inform Mist ambassadors and increase search parties ASAP

Summon path trade network:
  • Find out about the Condor and Porcupine summoner.
    • Talk to Mari about them or who we should talk to.
      • Personal history, missions, likes, hates, goals, ideologies, etc.

Misc:
  • Complete the chakdar seal(4-7 days)
  • Take out Candoru hunting in the forest of death.
    • Should be easy peasy test run.
  • Confer with Keiko on what time we'll be leaving for the mine.
  • Enable the koi pond.

Add the koi pond.

I still don't see how summon scrolls protect us from Ami in any meaningful way.

She's social-spec, so what we'd have to worry about are a) Ami out-socialing us until we're puppets on her strings, or b) Ami turning organizations against us.

a) is irrelevant to the Summoner topic, and b) doesn't seem to help, because if we're cornered by an organization and need to evac to 7Path they'd be able to trap the exit point and force us to stay on 7Path forever.

And she couldn't really do much to get at us on 7Path, because we'd have an entire Clan standing behind us if Ami tries to marshal her own Clan to arms.

Can you provide a direct example of what threat you think Ami might pose that makes this important?

Discuss Ami: You have severe reservations about including her.
  • What is the theoretical limit to a person's proficiency at psychological manipulation, especially a Mori's? Ami's social acumen is unnerving as-is. A post-singularity Ami, you fear, would be effectively a mind-controller against anyone lesser than a jounin social-spec, including her fellow newly-made godlings.
  • You'd trust Mari with that power — a trust that was hard-earned over years in life-or-death situations, and sacrifices with no room for lies. Replicating that with Ami is unrealistic: incredibly difficult, necessarily mortally dangerous, and only possible if she is trustworthy. Anything less, you'd suspect manipulation.
  • Additionally, you suspect the SC feedback loop could be shortened by novel inventions in Sealing, Technique-Hacking, or Medical Ninjutsu, also making the beneficiary a double-god. Ami'll surely recognize that.
  • You might be willing to include her, in exchange for a lot of favours, provided that:
    • She waits two years. By your calculations, in that time you'd be roughly within her striking range, removing the need for trust.
    • She doesn't study the aforementioned research disciplines.
So my primary concern with this (and the plan as a whole, to a lesser extent) is that I feel we're...jumping the gun, with this talk. Keiko's already offered to have us give a conversation with Ami in an effort to figure out her motives, and while I doubt we'd be able to truly figure them out from that conversation (blah blah Jonin social-spec blah blah), I do feel that we should at least have that conversation first. Doing this now, especially phrased in this way...it makes me feel that we don't trust Ami, that any acts of us sharing the secret of FOOM with her can only be done with the threat of force to ensure no backstabbing can occur without catastrophic consequence, and more importantly nothing can convince us that Ami can be trusted. While I do agree that trusting Ami, especially as we are now, is unwise, put this way I struggle to understand why we are bothering to consider offering Ami FOOM at all. But having this conversation after we at least make the effort to learn Ami's motivations via conversation makes much more sense: we've put in the effort to figure her out in truth, feel that this is impossible, and therefore having counter-balance makes cluing her in viable.

Relatively minor quibbles:
  • I would like to ask that you say "clue her in" instead of "include her", as the current phrasing suggests that our primary concerns are with giving her all the resources needed for her to FOOM, as opposed to her knowing at all about FOOM, and soon after getting SC/a Wakahisa to FOOM without our input. Which I think is entirely possible for Ami to do.
  • I am also concerned that "a jounin social-spec" is underselling the level of threat a fully-FOOMed Ami could be to even many S-class ninja. Perhaps change that to compare things to Pein (e.g., "effectively a mind-controller against anyone lesser than Pein's level of social acumen")?
Side note: Why are we cluing her in? The only thing I could think of is "If we don't, Keiko might tell her anyway", but this doesn't fit my model of her and I'm struggling to think of another reason.

I mean, yes, but what exactly can be done beyond what we've already done? A search party's already been sent out, we're getting the message through to the Hokage. Certainly, we can do the things you suggest in your plan (more search parties, alert Mist's ambassadors), but these things seem the sort of thing the Hokage is supposed to do, not us. And Asuma is smart enough to recognize that himself.

Like, I can try to add the above in if needed, but things are kinda above our heads by this point.

I think it's the most important thing we can do, so I would like the bullet point to be moved to top level.

We aren't going to commit treason by teaching her SC?

I don't really feel like spending hours trying to justify my concerns to you. This is something that would me feel safer and isn't a huge concession. If people don't agree with me fine.

Alright then. You and @Shrooms feel ok with this?
Not the greatest plan, but the outline is good enough for me to be posting this. I don't think there are other pressing things we need to do before we go to the iron mine?

[X] Action Plan: The Days Before The Journey
Word Count: ZZZ
  • Let Asuma know about Sadaharu's disappearance, it is concerning.
  • Enable the koi pond.
  • Convince Ruri and Aika to join the Seventh Path trade.
    • Prep: Gather intel on their personalities/socioeconomic life. Optimize with Mari before implementing.
      • If she deems it necessary, get Noburi or Keiko to go instead.
    • Generally speaking, mimic our meeting with Neji, but fine-tune things towards them specifically.
      • Meet with Neji at the Naked Jaybird
        • Optimize with Keiko and Mari (-1FP, invoke "Lists and Plans" during the conversation)
          • Make sure the menu is customized to Neji's taste.
        • We'd like to discuss Seventh Path trade:
          • If all the summoners in Konoha work together, we can create an instantaneous transportation network between all the clans and anywhere in Fire, allowing them to become vastly wealthy.
          • We could also sell an exclusive contract with companies to increase our profits:
          • We would split the profits evenly between each summoner and the trade network.
            • (e.g., 4 summoners: Each summoner gets 20% with 20% going to the trade network)
        • Talking points:
          • This is between fellow summoners, not between clans:
            • Only those of us who have travelled through the Paths are worthy (-1FP, tag "Fellow Summoners")
          • This will also keep Team Gai close:
            • Lee is on our short list for next year's adoption.
        [*][*][*]
  • Misc:
    • Finish the chakdar seal.
    • Take Candoru hunting in the Forest of Death as a milk run.

I have a pretty big suggestion for the summoner meetings but won be able to get to it till later tonight tomorrow morning but I think it will work really well

That would be beautiful, yes; I'm afraid to add too much onto the section due to how little information we have on these people beyond what affiliations they have (and the generalizations one can infer from that).

It feels like a decently large ask to me, given that there's no guarantee we'll find all of the summon scrolls, let alone in a reasonable timeframe, and asking Ami to not become a summoner would, as mentioned, cut into the favors received. And right now I'm relatively unconvinced that the asks would actually make us safer, so bar further argumentation I'll have to just land on the 'disagree' side, sorry.

  • Discuss OPSEC issues:
    • Concealing power spikes: What if the first skill everyone training with SC learns is acting? It would ensure we're able to conceal our other skills, barring emergencies, and it'd help with treason.
    • Concealing the training:
      • Keiko/Hazou could train on the Seventh Path: only Boss Summons would know. Con: excludes Akane, unless we get another Scroll.
      • Dig a deep basement, beyond the range of Byakugan, disguise it as something innocuous (backup koi pond?), train there.
    • Mari'd suggested leaking information about our bloodlines, seeded with misinformation calculated to convince people VD and SC don't synergize. The lie would need to be subtle, so that:
      • Clever people (Kabuto, Oro...), who'd realize the leak was deliberate, would slot it into "a true tidbit they included because it's harmless", not "the lie they're using to cover something up".
      • It won't, by itself, clue new people into thinking about VD's interactions with clones.
      • It's not blatantly wrong to anyone familiar with Mist bloodlines.
      • Suggestion: "Ingesting large quantities of Wakahisa water is dangerous for your chakra system, although you'd need to drink gallons of it daily for the effects to show. Nonetheless, the Wakahisa know and hide it."
        • If this is appropriate, task Mari with making the leak happen.
  • Background:
    • Update Asuma on the situation with the Wakahisa.
    • Enable the koi pond.

But what about seal research?

There's a lot to like about this plan, but I do have some comments and suggestions.
  • I think it's fine to leave the Akane stuff for after the mine, although I would caution against leaving her out without talking to her.
  • I agree that we need to talk to the new summoners about our plan, but if we're doing it before the iron mine, what's our motivation for doing it? I don't think it's necessary to do it immediately unless you add in something about wanting them to think about it and prepare themselves before the meeting.
  • We should talk to Mari about the chocolate. This is something we can delegate to her and/or Gaku before we leave, and, unlike the summoners, is time-sensitive. Unless you have compelling reasoning otherwise, I think these should be switched.
