I can feel the waves of inspiration and imagination rippling through the hivemind. Let there be a competition!

We will award up to 15 XP to the author of the best bowling-themed omake (subject to quality and basic language/spelling/grammar).[1] In addition, the winner may submit a name to be used for a new NPC when we next need one (subject to sanity and basic language/spelling/grammar).

A sufficiently good omake that fits with the existing setting, characterisation and timeline could even get canonised.

Competition ends on Sunday 7th of June, 9 a.m. New York Time.

More that they were forgotten about due to the dubious status of the update. I'll sort that out now. There was a tie for Akane's plan, but Akane will go for the active option.

[1] Hazō will also receive 15 XP.
Can we put the XP in Retconning or is that too OP?

@Noumero I think some consideration should be put to having the first detour of FOOM to be to CR. This would allow us to be able to summon a boss summon which is an S-rank trick and ultimately that's the goal of FOOM.

We had some stuff that's been sitting around in QM QUINOA, already signed off, for months, and I wanted to clean it out. Relevant bits have been added to the rules doc and the "Players - Known Jutsu" document. This brings us down to 20 pages of things to finalize. Ugh.

"a player on Discord quite a while ago said:
Sustaining an Illusion-type genjutsu requires Supplemental actions. Does that mean the genjutsu user can still throw weapons or cast jutsu while sustaining?
Your chakra is tied up in the genjutsu so you can't chakra boost or use jutsu. Also, you have to stand still, which means not moving from your spot and not moving your body too violently. You can still throw things, but you can't boost and you're at -5 on your rolls.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Did we ever get specs on Hiding in Mist? Specifically, if it can be cast with real water (and the physics behind the HiM forming).
You did not, although there's a sketch of it sitting in the QM Jutsu doc waiting for us to get together on it. Regardless, we are inclined to say that yes, you can cast it from real water. I say "inclined" because we have no idea what the physics should look like. If someone wants to put together a proposal, cool. If it turns out to be too abusable or too hairy then we'll probably just say "Eh, it's magic and it works in a way that happens to be easy for the QMs to deal with."

Fire Jutsu: Friendly Flame
This jutsu creates small orbs of fire that float around a ninja and protect them from harm by attacking anyone that gets close. A handy support jutsu.

Casting Speed: Standard

Duration: 1 minute

Effect: Creates (Effect) Friendly Flames, each of which is directed towards an allied ninja. The flames do not hurt this ninja but rather stick around until another ninja gets within melee range, at which point they lash out to attack the threat, creating the Aspect [Friendly Flame] and giving the allied ninja a tag on it. You cannot have more than one Friendly Flame per ninja or they will violently cancel each other out.
Approved. It exists in-universe, although that doesn't mean it's available to the Gōketsu right now. We may use it as some clan's contribution to the contest, or we might give it to some friendly/enemy ninja.

Any bowling contest against the Uchiha that I write will necessarily contain Swolesuke. What are the odds of Swolesuke being canon? :p

How does this look?

Type:Supplemental?
Effect:Aspect [Mist-Enveloped] within AOE including the caster+10 Strain (Variable if Multi-Tagged)
Duration:10 Minutes+50 Strain
Durability:n/a due to Mist/Fog?
Range:n/a due to AOE?
Casting Speed:Several Minutes(-40 Strain)
AOE:Entire Zone+40 Strain
Adv/Dis:Adjustable Casting Time+10 Strain
Multi-Tag (thickness of Mist/Fog)+Variable Strain
Skill Penalty to Alertness(-20 Strain)

Total Strain: 50
Total Chakra Cost: (40/5) = 10 CR, assumed 1 Aspect Tag and Listed Casting Speed

Notes:
  • Alertness Penalty applies to caster
  • Adjustable Mist Thickness (Multi-Tag)
  • [Mist-Enveloped] does not prevent movement or chakra techniques
    • May influence aim due to Alertness Penalty

As the way these things goes is... The QUINOA must be added to for every item removed, so here you are:

Can you use seals, or is even that amount of chakra control beyond one that is using a genjutsu?

What sort of roll does (our highest-powered) macerator make if not accompanied with punching motions at all? It'd seem sufficient to harm/kill someone under such a genjutsu to me, but big shrug.

Much appreciated, and we may use parts of this, but I actually meant a write-up on the physics involved when using actual water as the source.

[X] Continue previous plan

Incidentally, the plan is currently 324 words long according to google docs, so if anyone wants to optimize it below 300 for bonus XP, I'd be happy to implement the edits.

1. Yasuji

Goals

  • Get more information.
  • Gain an upper hand in the negotiation.
Methods
  • Play bad cop, let Mari be the good one.
  • Demeanor: Carefully neutral, calm, business-like. Yasuji's more comfortable in casual settings, use this against him.
  • Broad narrative: His offer's credibility is suspect, there's little we need that he's offering, and we're his only buyers. On the other hand, our seals and jutsu are of incredible value, enough to score first in Asuma's contest.
Specifics
  • Praise him, one Clan Head to a future one, for bringing this offer to us so quickly following Ami's departure. Very resourceful.
    • Subtext: He's somehow involved.
  • Question why the Wakahisa elders want to sell clan secrets to traitors.
  • Push him on how much authority he was given to make binding promises to us.
  • Don't commit to anything. State that he'd interrupted a clan meeting unannounced: we'd like to continue.
  • Be ready to calm Keiko if she loses patience with the proceedings.
2. Clan meeting
  • Goal: Decide how you can help Ami and how to get it past Asuma
  • Observations:
    • Ami's unlikely to die. It'd piss off too many people for not much benefit. She also wouldn't go back so easily if she thought this was a real possibility.
    • However, both Asuma and Ren have an interest in declawing her.
    • What kind of resources do we have?
      • Hazou's relation to Ren through Hana.
      • The Nara's influence on the Mori.
      • Naruto and his connection to KEI.
    • Hazou notes that Ami's escort arrived just as she was explaining her world peace plan to him.
  • Would Asuma be open to establishing a Leaf embassy in Mist?
    • We also need to brief him on the contents of our discussion with Yasuji, ASAP.
  • Implement whatever we decide on.

Ping me if you want to include something else but don't have the space, I could keep going.

Done. I think we're good, the plan had a good amount of approval and not much opposition. I don't want to change anything meaningful late in the cycle.

That was a really cool update, by the by, @Velorien. I often feel Hazou's relationships with his peers outside of the original team are a bit on the shallow side - Shikamaru has a disposition that makes it difficult to connect with him, Ino hides behind her social skills, Naruto hates us, and we didn't get to interact much with the rest. Hazou and Sasuke, on the other hand, have just met and only talked for an hour or so, but there was a lot of substance and weight to it. Somewhat funnily, we have a similar thing with Neji. I wonder what that says about us, that we only connect with the brooding and angsty ones.

Anybody foolish enough to accept a bowling competition against an iron-nerve sealmaster on home turf deserves whatever happens. It's like challenging a Hyuuga to a scavenger hunt, an Akimichi to an eating contest, a Yamanaka to a romantic relationship, or an Uzumaki to an orgy.
