Noburi said casually. "How many people here are engaged to be married, again?"

Did Yuno actually choose Noburi over Neji or is Noburi just being presumptuous again?

"It's all right," Noburi insisted, apparently to himself as much as anyone else. "It's not like they can force me to actually get married. Once this mission's over, we get out of here like the Great Spirit's turned out to be Captain Zabuza's ghost, and no civilian is going to track me all the way back home."
"Her clan decided to take advantage of it for all it was worth politically," Akane said, picking up the thread, "and nobody told her. Then, when it was time for us to leave, Noburi rejected her in the most awful way possible and broke her heart."
"The reason she's here," Hazō said, "is that despite us moving half a continent away without telling her where we were going, or even our real names, she managed to track us down. You may or may not have heard that they're engaged again."

"After he broke her heart and abandoned her?" Haru asked in disbelief. "Why?"

"It's half politics," Noburi said, "and half complicated. Don't get me wrong, though. Nobody is being forced into anything. She came after me because she's just…" He gave a warm smile. "Special."

I'm starting to get a little annoyed by Noburi's inner Chad. Yuno's reputation in Isan probably tanked after her engagement turned out the way it did, making her vague-yet-neglectful-and-probably-borderline-abusive life in Isan even worse, so she decided to leverage their "engagement" for all it's worth and start anew. Or her superiors suggested it and she agreed for the same aforementioned reason.

All I know, is that I would very much like Hazou to have a talk with Noburi. Or Akane. She's rather close friends with Yuno, I don't know how she's putting up with Noburi's teenage-jock phase. Maybe that's what Akane wanted to talk to Hazou about, before the most recent Out Moment?

"I'll tell you later," Akane whispered, "when their masculine pride isn't around."

No, please, go ahead!

Akane's expression instantly went blank. "Nothing important."

This seems a little too... automatic. I mean, we know that Hazou's on her shit list because of the most recent Out Moment (that hasn't been settled, by the way) but Akane's not usually one to hide her feelings behind a mask... I think. I don't know, this just seems a little too unnatural. Maybe she's under a "there's no war in Ba Sing Se" type of genjutsu? Or maybe it's a naturally occurring side effect of whatever ritual she went through? But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

"So what did you ask for?" he asked.

Hazō may have offended multiple Kage over the last half-year or so with his stellar social skills, but he knew a conversation closer when he heard one.
The Ino shippers might need to be worried. Looks like Akane is both back in the ring and has a spirit on her side.

Haru has duly soaked in information about your specialisations. As for himself, he feels his strength, outside combat, is his directness. He tells people what he thinks, frankly and without holding back, and then for some reason they either do whatever he wants or run away.

Hazō was…

Physique: 19 + 3 = 21

…plotting how to exact brutal revenge on Noburi (an experience so familiar, he'd almost missed it over the last few months), or at least plotting to plot brutal revenge once his tongue stopped melting into oblivion.

Don't mind me, this is just me trying to figure out how I'd feel if our main character had died because of prank food.

At the moment I am fluctuating between ಠᴗಠ and ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

THE ORACLE: Very well. My wisdom is this: Never have a romantic partner.
That won't save you from causing pain to other people's romantic partners. Beware of any entity that professes to grant wishes but doesn't come with a user manual.

Edit: Also beware of any entity that professes to grant wishes and does come with a user manual. Human beings are not good with wishes. With great power comes a great number of increasingly disastrous failure modes. [pointedly doesn't look in the direction of all politics anywhere ever]

  • Akane's trial sounds a lot like she was drugged with a hallucinogenic, could she have a quick checkup with Noburi?
  • Meet with Jiraiya's local contacts.
    • Who goes where?
      • Chambermaid: Send Noburi and Haru.
      • Monk: Send Hazou and Akane.
    • Ask if they have any reports for us.
    • Questions:
      • Do they have information about the Woman who came back from the Greater Forest? If not, can they direct us to people who do?
      • Do they know/have any relevant documents, reports, or rumours about ninja in O'uzo?
      • Why is the Greater Forest so dangerous?
    • Follow up on any leads we get, especially anything concerning the Woman.
  • Find a guide to the Forest and get information on the place (Lesser AND Greater) before the Festival, bribing if necessary.
  • Scout the Greater Forest if deemed reasonable after information gathering
    • It's supposedly very dangerous, so be on high alert and prepare to retreat at any point.
    • Use SC to minimize risk while investigating. Hazou's presumably practiced daily, so he can use it for 24-30 minutes.

Did Akane just shrug off being willingly drugged and interrogated by foreign civilian authorities with unclear allegiances? How is that okay?

Any chance we the voters can treat this as what it is and have Hazō, under four eyes, make Akane aware that none of that is even remotely normal? She's a clan ninja and we are a clan head, for gods sake.

Wait. Why are we investigating the Greater Forest without clues leading us to investigate the GF?

@faflec

Akane's description does sound a bit sketch. Maybe ask Nobbs to give her a quick checkup to make sure the weird incense wasn't drugged or whateverz

Don't ask Noburi, request that Akane allow Noburi to give her a check. It's more respectful of her agency.

Fair enough.

@faflec id like you to revert the forest section back. It's the most likely area for the scroll to be. Any info we can get is extremely valuable
