Hm. I'm thinking of something from Classical Romance (Shoujo Manga Edition), in which Noburi would break things off with Yuno 'for real', but leave a note/message/letter to the only place she would visit and find (Perhaps nearby the river. Create a hole or some kind). In the letter, Noburi would explain his true feelings for Yuno, and revealed the reason behind him 'breaking things' off with her. At the end of the letter, Noburi would write 'Someday, I'll return to you.'

Either said promise is fake or not is up to us. We're Ninja, after all.

In this case, Yuno would either stay and waiting for something that may or may not come, or she would track us down, and follow us—like that scene from plenty Shoujo Manga.
I fear the results if she does try to track and follow us so immediately after this. Others might follow her, and whether or not she finds us it'll be bad, whether for her or for us.

So, maybe Noburi can't get married until he completes his med-nin apprenticeship?

Any thoughts on how we can find out if he will and/or if we can survive said fallout?
I guess the first question is, how does he betray us given this setup? One possibility is that he takes advantage of the ill will that we'll engender with the Kannagi, though I'm not sure how.

He could be looking to take advantage of the night between the council vote and when we can try to retrieve the scroll, but probably not as a move against us. If anything, he'd be using us as a distraction while he does something else. That something else might be stealing the summoning scroll, though. Not sure how to defend against that. Not really sure why he would do that rather than just teaching one of his clan and doing everything above-board, either, though.

There still could be some last-minute betrayal when Keiko goes to try to get the scroll. She should ask Takahashi about what to expect when she actually goes to the shrine. I'd also like to get details from someone else, to compare, but it's not clear to me that we're supposed to publicly know that this is happening versus being surprised when the council declares we are the prophesied summoners.

I really like this idea. It has enough hints of truth and is familiar enough culturally to them for it to be understandable. The problem is that they don't actually know that he isn't a full fledged med-nin, and, uh... we've been healing their entire village as a student. I'm not sure they'd appreciate that.

On that note, we need to do everything we can to prepare her. Given her ludicrous weapons skill, give her all of the varieties of explosive tag Kagome's willing to, several storage scrolls (finally!!), and maybe see if Akane can put together some quick-setup traps for storage in them?

@Sleeps Furiously My worry is that Takahashi will go to the council meeting, and not vote to allow the outsiders (us) to take the trial. Then when we try to take the trial, which is probably near the shrine, the entire village has reason to kill us. The source of my worry is that Takahashi wants us to make up a reason for the training he and Keiko have been doing. Why would he do that: in the next two weeks the deception will be wide open and there's no reason to assume Inoue/Aida will have caught on to the deception before then.

But Noburi had firmly vetoed the motion. The day he needed to use diagrams to figure out dating was the day he legally changed his name to Kurosawa Hazō.
*gasp* why I never!

but that won't stop people [...] spreading horrible rumours many of which aren't even true
Meaning some of the horrible rumors they spread about you are true? *takes note*

"Certain concessions?"
"You do not need to know," Takahashi brushed the question off.
Yeah, I think we do. What is our teacher hiding >_>

"At the Council of Elders meeting a fortnight hence, I shall call a vote for a representative of the outsiders to attempt the trial of the summoning scroll, in accordance with the prophecy of Ui's heir. If all goes to plan, and you survive the night, the following morning you will be permitted to approach the sacred shrine and attempt to retrieve and use the scroll."
So he's suggesting Keiko will be ready to try and summon by then. And QMs took care to tone down our XP feed. Yeah, I almost hope elders will try something so we have obstacles to overcome :V

No no this is really good. If Noburi is so useful to village as is, imagine how much more useful he'd be after becoming proficient by our standards. This is the best idea so far, and it's guaranteed to give Kannagi a pause because it's about a real, tangible benefit. Definitely something to consider.

[X] Training Hazou: Light Sparring

Taijutsu 14e15 [14/21]
Save 7XP

[X] Training Akane: Light Sparring

Taijutsu 15 [15/27]
Save 12XP

Just to get these two up to cap on their primary combat skills in case shit goes down.

Let's get our best spin doctors on this one. Focus group, people! :D

[X] Training Akane: Light Sparring

Taijutsu 15 [15/27]

Hmm. Unless something better comes up, I'll go with these. I think we should save Noburi's XP though, since we may be getting back to the Mednin teacher soon.

[X] Training Akane: Light Sparring
[X] Training Hazou: Light Sparring

[X] Training Akane: Light Sparring

Guess socializing Akane is delayed further. Ah well, asskicking skills will be useful, and Akane-Hazou interaction always warms my heart so :3

I'd suggest Akane spend the rest of her XP on Elemental Mastery and/or Hotaru no Jutsu.
If we can get enough work in on her Hotaru no Taijutsu style to get a point or two, that would work.

Yeah, from what we can tell it seems like we'll be needing asskicking skills more than social skills for the next bit, otherwise I'd be on that too. Agreed, though.

@MadScientist We got it in the same update as Elemental Mastery.

Given the impending combat 2-3 weeks from now I'm going to push for leveling Hotaru over Elemental Mastery. Here's my thoughts:

Taijutsu 15 [15]
Hotaru no Jutsu 4 [19]
Hotaru no Jutsu 5 [24]
Save 3XP

This gives Akane full use of her Firefly hand while maximizing XP spending.

Edit: Here's the information.
@eaglejarl @Velorien @AugSphere @Jackercracks What's the chakra cost for Hotaru no Jutsu, and can you add that and the attribute requirements (Control x4, Dexterity x4) to Akane's character sheet?

I'd be okay with that. I have no real preference between that and Light Sparring.

Hotaru 5 [24/27]

Hm. I'm looking at Hazou's sheet and notice that he has enough XP to get MEW 5. I think we should get that AND Taijutsu 14e15.

As for Noburi, we can get Water Whip 14 and bank 2XP for later.

Exactly what does Hotaru do? Akane doesn't have a style with it yet, and it won't work as main offense the way water whip works for Nobby.
