This seems like a powder keg ready to blow, very similar to the crowd of twitchy nin during the fourth event. Lets not be lighting any fuses unless absolutely necessary...

Seriously. Silence mines. Everybody is busy looking at the door. Hazou could probably activate half a dozen without being noticed. Jiraiya, Keiko, and Noburi would probably activate a few more each the moment they heard what was happening.

Silence Mines give only +5 to Stealth. They aren't that powerful.

And yes, I quite agree. That's why we only speak up if Zabuza does.

Replace "Raised eyebrow" with "Angry frown and  expression and 'Can you fucking believe this shit??' hand gesture.". He'll probably get the message, thats very out of character for us, but still in character for who we want to be.
I don't really see this.
  • Right now we don't have a reason to do anything, and Jiraiya doesn't have a reason to approve us doing anything: everyone is currently sufficiently distracted. The question we need to ask him is "if Zabuza restarts his conspiracy reveal, then do you want us to shout at him?" — and I struggle to think of a way to do this both subtly and reliably.
  • On the other hand, if Zabuza ignores the Sunohara distraction and starts talking again, we'll have fractions of a second to act, too little time for any communication to take place.
Any ideas?

... and let someone else drop a nuke instead? Do you seriously think that Zabuza revealing that Leaf has acquired the holy grail of flight and lost its jinchuuriki and was the cause of Mist's recent drop in jounin numbers is going to cause less damage than Hazou giving a stupid angry speech? Long-term or short-term damage?

I am not convinced there is anything we could do to change this outcome in a meaningful way. If hes going to do it, hes going to do it.

Yeah...my model of Zabuza, if he plans to continue, says that he will just glare at us. Not with killing intent (at least not necessarily), but it'll still fuck us if we flinched over him telling the Hokage to shut up.

Gonna repeat what I mentioned before.

Besides Zabuza and Jaraiya, the Sand-nin present will be the next source of attention of the room. Hazou has an IC reason to feed into anything they do (Ikeda). And it's also a known quantity among the rest of the Goketsu as an asset.

We have more room to maneuver here than just ranting at Z.

Exactly! He'll waste a second or ten on socially curb-stomping us. That's the win condition.

We could buy several precious seconds until Ren's arrival. If Zabuza doesn't feel extremely pressed for time yet, he may even decide to spend some of it ranting about how Leaf accepted Mist traitors, which is significantly better than his other topic of choice.

Remember that he is acting on emotions (or playing the role of someone acting on emotions) — he'll make irrational decisions based on them. If he genuinely loathes the-ones-who-got-away, reminding him of our existence would serve as a very good distraction.

What immediate actions you're proposing Hazou should take?

Well, I was thinking of using bodylanguage and subtext to modify the intent of getting an agent to escort the genin out. Something like that gives an opening to Jiraiya, Noburi, and Keiko to further play on if needed.

  • Appeal to Jiraiya to try to find an ANBU agent to escort the Genin to their barracks, especially Sand (Ikeda).
  • Sand (Ikeda) is your focus and allow other Goketsu to play off of you.

If anyone has a strong preference for either plan, I'd suggest putting your vote in. They're tied at 3 each.

Voting is still open.

Given the low turnout, I'm guessing that people either aren't interested in the quest anymore, don't give a damn about the current problem, or don't feel like they have any ability to affect the situation.

Which is a shame, because the next thirty seconds are a pivot point for the entire quest. If things go poorly, there's probably going to be another war in the next month or so. If they go well, then the good economics that Jiraiya has managed to negotiate for will start to pay dividends for Leaf. They will marginally raise standard of living for many people, significantly raise it for some, make it much more likely that Jiraiya keeps the hat, and ensure that there's peace enough for you to focus on Uplift instead of being metaphorically chained to a desk making skywalkers while everyone else goes out to kill people.

On my end, I'm just completely swamped with stuff from all angles. I only barely recalled voting ended today. I woke up and thought it was Sunday already... So I'll be voting without having read any of the recent discussion, and possibly dooming the quest as a tiebreaker. Oh, well. Do and be damned.

[X] Action Plan: Five Kinds of Murder

I think the lack of engagement may also be plain fear and confusion. The situation is very volatile and outcomes depend heavily on hidden information. Maybe Zabuza is about to blame Akatsuki, should we let him talk in that case? Maybe he's playing some kind of game that is harmful to Jiraiya but in-line with Ren's goals, in which case Hazou butting in could result in a huge mess. Hell, there's a realistic chance we're in a genjutsu. Don't underestimate the lingering trauma of the killbox incident.

For the record, I'm voting for @Noumero's plan because it has the best chance of dealing with the worst-case scenario of Zabuza wanting to destroy the alliance. If we're wrong, we might lose some fingernails and more of Jiraiya's trust, but that's a price I find acceptable.

Is Yukino at the party? She could be valuable in defusing Zabuza.

I agree with Shard that we should find a way to use Yukino somehow.

(Also, for any plans that had involved Ikeda: I get why keeping her as a contact has value, even if I don't particularly like her. But any plan that relies on convincing a genin from a different village via glances to follow the lead of a genin she thinks she's seduced and duped probably isn't going to work.)

@eaglejarl I think a little bit of the case may be that of rolling plans, ie people assume the winning plan from the update before gets passed through and don't feel the need for engagement? Though that doesn't change the lack of engagement, and I'm sorry it is discouraging.

Welp. Here's hoping Jiraiya has the situation under control enough for Hazou to keep his mouth shut.

I generally read updates but do not as a habit vote.

Although I imagine in this situation specifically it's because people are terrified of voting for the wrong option/decision. Too pivotal!

It's less "we are not engaged" and more the fact that
1)Frankly put, if Zabuza wants to talk about something, he's going to talk about something.Full Stop.
We can't stop him.
Jiraya can't stop him.
Not even the Mizukage can stop him.
We are talking about a Jounin with more than enough experience as far social situation go that decided to say something.
He just need to scream "Leaf can fly!" and we're done.
Unless Jiraya has an silent, invisible and faster than a Chidori Rasengan, we can't stop him, the plan is practically a desperate attempt to stop him and everyone knows it's not going to work if Zabuza is really committed.
In the entire quest the idea was, and is "Do not engage Jounin", so this situation it's felt as half "Well, we can't really do something" and "The Jounin will counter everything we do".

2)It's so sudden that we have no idea what to do, it's seems a stupid things, but the hive-mind generally has plans, this avenue of attack truly blindsided us, to be sincere
Is Zabuza serious? Did someone really kidnapped Gaara?
Aaand....

This

TL;DR
Trauma of going against a S-ranker + Perceived powerlessness(Cmon! If Jiraya fuck this up, what could we do?) +Previous vote considered winning.

[X] Action Plan: Five Kinds of Murder

Guys, Should we add would add a "If everything goes to hell, put anti-sound seals to stop shit from going FUBAR"?
Something like
[ ] If Zabuza still keep talking, put anti sound seal and start directing people, under the pretenses of "A Tailed Beast was captured, we have no time for this shit! A war could start NOW, Jonins of the Villages, protect your genin, go to your homes and be ready for everything!"
Buuut...if Zabuza is helping us, man, it would be horrible.
