Your plan doesn't specify what you are trying to accomplish with this section. At the moment it boils down to "negotiate with merchants" without specifying the subject or your desired outcome.

What does this mean?

In the sense of "about" or in the sense of "subsequently"?

Good news: I've hopefully clarified these things by fleshing it out a bit. Hows that?

Bad news: At the cost of adding another couple sentences. Ah well. Sorry folks, but I think this is too important to screw up.

[X] Action Plan: Byakuren and Kurohige

  • General:
    • Double check details with Keiko/Noburi, and then with Jiraiya that our plans are still alright.
      • Be careful: Jiraiya's probably still pissed.
      • Does Keiko need more time in Mist for the meeting? What about backup? We can stay a decent distance away?
    • Try to move about in groups of 4+
      • Uplift + Higashino if possible
      • If not, try to choose alternate companions.
        • Ex: Ino might enjoy shopping.
  • Send messengers to:
    • Shin: Invite him to lunch at Byakuren's Cookbook.
      • Also make reservations there.
    • Ikeda's team.
      • You guys were awesome. Sorry we didn't have more time to hangout. Let's keep in touch!
  • Spend tonight and tomorrow morning at the market
    • Shopping!
    • Approach merchants, travelling performers/bards, craftsmen, etc to draft them into the Merchant Intel Network.
      • Present this as a "joint business venture" for the merchants/craftsmen for our mutual benefit. Our clan is looking to diversify our finances a bit.
      • Offer direct patronage to the performers and musicians, they should be open to that.
      • Prioritize merchants you've already spoken with
        • Glassblowers, salt/spice merchants, brewers, others.
      • Musicians/bards/performing troupes: ask around taverns.
      • Offer writs of patronage, price guarantees, partial financial backing and other minor promises.
      • Tactics for new/wary targets:
        • Let Noburi smooth talk them while you appear reserved and skeptical.
        • Noburi will prod them into making a sales pitch to ease your reservations. Eventually acquiesce.
        • Keiko could interject from the rooftops: "Be grateful we are even considering you." etc.
      • Direct interested parties to meet you in Leaf at the clan compound. Within the next two months, ideally.
      • Try to get about ~24 merchants, a handful of bards, and 1-2 performing troupes.
  • Lunch
    • Prep:
      • Observe OPSEC, stay on your toes, no hard precommitments.
      • Be confident: Shin is not a Jonin.
      • Shin is a silver-tongued chakra viper. Keep your cool. Insults and backhanded compliments are meant to provoke you. Exhibit dry amusement instead.
    • Start the interaction amicably.
      • Minor flexing: casually name drop Ami for the regulars' menu. Mention we're getting promoted, ask if he is as well.
      • Ask about the junior diplomat offer (which he should have received?)
    • Elaborate on your intentions:
      • In the spirit of where we left off last conversation: order a bottle of Kurohige's Revenge and two glasses (shallow pours, save the rest).
      • Cooperation was our motto during the exams. We're here to build bridges.
      • Here's your career on a silver platter. Perhaps by some miracle you can convince us that the clan is halfway decent somewhere down the line too.
      • So what's it gonna be?
  • See Momma.
    • No fighting, spend some nice time with her.
    • Confide about the Ami debacle. Avoid details that might breach OPSEC.
      • How do you deal with people like that?
      • Whats the deal with that Jonin aura crap anyway?
    • Give her the biggest hug.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this explicitly, but Noburi seems to have strong feelings about our merchant network idea. I think it might be because this kind of scheme was the kind of thing we did with him previously and now he feels cut out. Either way, I'd like it if we could put something in the plan about getting Noburi deeply involved in the merchant network, rather than the current winning "Let him..." which sounds dismissive to me.

Also, those observations are not those of a socially incompetent person. Props to Hazou, and hopefully putting more effort at Empathy can lead to better observations.

[X] Training Hazou: Empathy Drip.
We should just ask Noburi what he thought / felt there. Noburi being the chill master, he'll probably just tell us!

It's that time of the year again. Google Translate highlights:

"On that note, she gave me something to give to you." He included a bag containing Ami's bastard gift.

(…)

Keiko turned around, putting a note on her chest, and dazzled her brothers indiscriminately.

(…)

"Keiko, don't do this the wrong way, I have to interrogate ... there's a sister in the middle of my head, I'm a wet cat based on what Hanyu says I am crazy like a bag, do you like to make no one predict her?

Keiko glared, then stood up and jumped out of the room.

"It's a mistaken cat," said Noburi.

Hanyu nodded.

o-o-o-o

Then the light came back. More than a dozen large lanterns with reflectors light up in the glowing flood and highlight the three adolescents who were so far hidden by the black velvet curtain. See naked

Keiko has taken the best step.

(...)

Nara nodded and filed a lawsuit, but did not say anything.

When we get back to Leaf we will definitely want to try and purchase some trade goods to use as bribes in Hidden Mountain

I have few questions about sealing scroll
1. If something is sealed then does the scroll physicaly behave like normal scroll?(gravitation, acceleration or momentum is same as of normal scroll)

2. What happens when you unseal something while moving with seal? Will the unsealed item have velocity of the scroll or it has something to do with speed compared to earth or some other weird bullshit?

3. Similar question but about sealing while moving. Because if the speed of the unsealed thing depended on it's speed compared to earth then if you sealed something while moving then unsealed thing would fly after unsealing it and not moving.

4. Can you seal something that is moving in relation to seal you want it to be sealed in? If yes does it keep it's momentum?

5. Will writers retcon perpentum mobile?

2: Velocity of the seal. That's how Macerators work: They're basically storage seals that shred their contents and impart a little extra force, but they also add on the same speed that one punches at.

  1. Yes.
  2. The unsealed item has 0 m/s velocity relative to the scroll. If the scroll is moving 25 m/s in a particular direction, so too will the unsealed item.
  3. If you seal an object while you are moving (which may be difficult) then when it is unsealed it will behave the same as above.
  4. Yes, but it may be very difficult. It does not keep its momentum; see above.
  5. Probably not? Various seal/unseal engines have been proposed, some with extreme energy outputs for very minimal input. If we could develop automatic sealing/unsealing then this could be used easily to turn a rotor and work as an inexhaustable energy supply. We haven't taken the necessary time in-story for R&D. Also Hazou doesn't understand electricity, so we'd be limited to using purely mechanical energy at first, the applications of which are limited. (Airships have been proposed; mining may be feasible.)

So, this is far from the first time the idea's come up, but we were talking about it in discord so I figured I'd repeat it here:

Reverse summoning, in contrast with regular summoning, brings physical objects to and from the Summon Realm. It's why Keiko vanishes instead of falling asleep, and why we can bring real gold back from the Pangolins from our arms deal. Someone like Keiko going to the Seventh Path also suggests that, unlike storage seals, reverse summoning is totally fine with moving chakra between dimensions.

Suppose you were Jiraiya, on the front lines, and you wanted the most recent intel from Shikaku but it takes a ninja two days to make it to Jiraiya's position from Leaf. Keiko, in Leaf, could reverse summon herself to the Pangolin ambassador to the Toads and leave the report on the Seventh Path. Jiraiya then comes in and takes the report with him to the front lines. The report thus effectively teleports across the continent in the span of a few minutes.

It gets better, though. I mentioned that it seems like reverse summoning doesn't mind chakra? Well, what if we left a full Wakahisa barrel with the Toads instead of an intel report? Jiraiya could take the barrel to the front lines and distribute it to his ninja, replenishing their chakra after a battle or other draining activity. Noburi could remain over in Leaf, continually draining ninja to fill up another barrel, and then when a barrel is filled Keiko goes to the Seventh Path and delivers it, effectively granting Leaf forces indefinite chakra levels.

This is obviously something we should take to Keiko and Noburi first before approaching Jiraiya, because it's their unique talents that enable the plan in the first place, but with WW4 on the horizon it sounds prudent to bring it up to someone.

Chakra Quantification project, tally ho!

I remember one particularly bull-headed individual who insisted D&D wizards weren't aware of spell or caster levels because they were a metagame construct.

Never mind the fact that wizards have a very quantifiable number of spells per day, or that spells have very quantifiable effects granular to caster level, or that wizards are one of the most intelligent classes in general...

There's an easy in-character explanation for why magic sometimes behaves in a strangely quantifiable fashion, and why wizarding skill seems to have clear breakpoints.

It's sealing magic. It doesn't have to make sense.

Wakahisa have a total amount of chakra that they can keep contained, regardless of how many containers it's in. The only advantage that the barrel provides is that it prevents the chakra from leaking away quickly. (This was established in the original rules.)
Just a heads-up, the "teleport chakra replenishment to the front via Summoning Realm" plan has an upper limit (Noburi's Chakra Reserves). So whatever plan is in place has to get chakra over has to do it really quickly to be efficient.

That's fine in this setting, but if someone wants to run a game in which magic is ineffable, eldritch, and horribly dangerous, D&D 3.5 is not that setting.

Noburi could acquire multiple J's worth of chakra reserves in just a couple months.

I'm obviously 100% in favor of this. You need two summoners to really make it work. Keiko on the leaf side and an S ranker in the field. But there are possible limits to the inter-dimensional chakra bucket line:
  • while chakra travels in ninja perfectly fine between dimensions, we don't know if it travels in Wakahisa water.
  • We don't know Wakahisa water retains potency 100s of miles away from the Wakahisa.
These do need to be tested. But its an idea of such insane potency that we should not mention it in Mist, or without Jiraiya's full OPSEC preparations.

Seriously. Imagine Jiraiya being fueled by a village's worth of chakra, pumping out dozens of shadow clones a minute. It is a second superweapon.

But there are outside view reasons to think it won't work. See, this isn't a "turn it upside down" sort of thing, where it was an unexpected use of a minor seal that only one or two very busy people knew how to make. There have been generations of Wakahisa trying to optimize things.

There are objections to those reasons. Summon scrolls are rare enough that Mist might never have had two at the same time. Summoners might be secretive enough that they don't tell people the exact mechanics, so the Wakahisa never knew. Also, Mist seems uninterested in optimizing the daylights out of the Wakahisa's bloodline. I seem to remember a QM saying that their distribution system in case of an attack on the village was something like "have a Wakahisa follow you around," rather than a system of Wakahisa farming genin with carrier chuunin carrying the water to the front.

That's not Zabuza.

Honestly seeing us must be just as aggravating to Zabuza as it has been for us. We're the dudes he failed to bag and now we're walking in open daylight right in front of him but out of his reach all the same.

We should do a song and dance outside the Momochi residence.

It's too bad Mari's not here with us, trolling Zabuza would be glorious for her.
