I think I was unclear. That's 30,000 ryō each.
In that case, sealing outfitting for the tournament will only cost 5,000 ryo for Hazou, leaving us with 25,000 ryo. Definitely want to buy a new disguise kit, I think those might be in high demand right now and kinda expensive though. Still probably worth it to splurge for a good one for the team.

"Impressive," he said, tidying the stack and setting it aside. "I'm not sure when I'll have time to do any real research, but I can probably find a few hours here and there, and I'd sure love to have something fun to do. Maybe the three of us can work on them together?" He glanced at Hazō and Kagome-sensei inquiringly.

Wonder what he thought was so impressive?

I'd like to add that even with Ebisu being a great teacher, he's well familiar with the Leaf paradigm of doing things. On the opposite side of the coin, we've so far excelled off of the Mist foundation and have been battled tested on it over the last few years. This means that while Ebisu might have our file or other insights from Jaraiya, team Uplift won't have that knowledge gap filled in. I'd like to be on the same when he trains us as well as

We just saw that Mari and Kagome were able to conclude that leaf's curriculum was conservative compared to the others. We, unfortunately, don't. I'd like to mine the academy materials and the library when free as well.

Ebisu Prep:
  • Review recent academy material for Leaf students to plug to make Ebisu's job easier.
  • Familiarize ourselves with any useful exercises we come across.
  • Dig for more obscure and interesting academy material if time permits. Perhaps something pertaining to chakra exercises.

Oops. Added to the update, reprinted here:

Other Note: You asked Mari-sensei about the clan's financial situation. The answer is that, as long as the pangolin gold keeps flowing in, you're set. The bills are being paid, the estate is being fixed up, a generous clan war chest is being accumulated, and a lot of the money is being funnelled into the search for Naruto, supplemental to the Leaf budget. More relevantly, however, all of you have a 30,000 ryō / month allowance. That's about $3,000 USD (~2300 GBP or ~2500 euro), and it's pure disposable income. You have no rent, there's always food in the house, and no one in Leaf has to pay for internet service. (Because there isn't any, obviously.) That $3k can be spent on hot chocolate, meals out, clothes, starting businesses, whatever. Just don't get yourselves in trouble with the Merchant Council. If you need more than your allowance, you can probably get it but you'll need to check with Jiraiya and/or Mari.

How does this compare with Hazou's knowledge/estimates/rough ballparks for the average discretionary income of leaf ninja? (" chuunin? " genin? " civilians?)

I hope Kagome manages to help advance the teaching of the Leaf. Mechanically I want fresh genin to have another 10-20 XP and maybe a rank or two more chakra under their belt when they graduate, not that any of us will see the result of this unless we die after the education revolution for leaf and the QM's decide to do a "This is how the future unfolded after your deaths"

Hmm. Leaf pipeline for a firstie is six years.

But I think we'll start having more immediate results as Kagome's methods filtered up to higher levels?

This is an untested method of teaching someone (from a crazy person) magic that goes against the 'known' 'safe' way to teach that is proven unlike similar training methods that have people end up with burnt out husks. If presented properly and the test case doesn't die before showing the potential of the system then we can probably see it's use in the Leaf system in 8 years.

Is Mari pregnant?

Edit: To me, it seems like this breeding program is a mistake. Sure, in 10-15 years the program will start delivering results and might make Mist the strongest elemental nation. But in the meantime it's an tremendous drain on their resources and infrastructure: the kids and mothers need to be fed, clothed and housed. The kids also need teachers and carers. The kunoichi aren't going to do any kind of productive work. At the moment, Ren is shrinking her ninja forces (kunoichi and teachers) and straining her limited resources because she hopes the village will be able to pay for it for a decade, when she'll be able to cash in.

It means we 'only' need to disrupt Mist enough that it can't pay for it or to make sure she loses the hat within a couple years or so, the expensive and unpopular program getting the boot along with her (a return of Yagura, maybe?). The other option is to destroy Mist within ten years.

Mari is reacting to the idea, not that she's pregnant.

You make it work by having your allies protect you. However, I viewed it as a desperation strategy. You're talking about long term damage to societal fabric in additional to the short term stability cost which may collapse your village into civil war and chaos.

Ah, I am talking about Kagome's teaching everything else. If Honoka learned that fasst, they may have to revamp the curriculum with a more advanced one.

I just don't think now's the time for desperate, costly and long-term measures. Mist has more urgent needs than must be met before wasting money and manpower for ten years. On the bright side, that means mist will be an agent of peace for ten years, because they can't afford a war.

Sure, we need to spend the next month training, but do all three of us? I'm almost willing to bite the bullet and have Hazou (mostly) ignore training and instead go on a quest to find Tsunade. He has the best shot of winning her over, and if we could get her back and take up a vote for Jiraiya, his Hokageship is that much more secured. Plus, we get another S-rank ninja on our side.

HAZOU: Jiraiya, I think tracking down Tsunade would be help a lot in securing your position. I am willing to sacrifice my training time to find her.
JIRAIYA: *looks at him oddly* ...are you serious?
HAZOU: Absolutely, anything for the clan! If you can give me any clues as to where to start looking that would really help me along.
JIRAIYA: *draws a crude map on a napkin* Sure, here you go, kid.
HAZOU: ...
JIRAIYA: ...
HAZOU: This is is pointing at a bar literally a street across from here.
JIRAIYA: Well, duh. Where did you think Tsunade was going to be? Somewhere far away, gallivanting across casinos when we need to project strength due to losing Naruto and Sensei? And even if she were, don't you think sending proper tracker nins would have been smarter than sending you? Kid, you are brilliant but your specializations lie elsewhere. Just focus on making me look good in the tournament.
HAZOU: ME SORRY, ME NO THINK GOOD WITH NO KEIKO.

(CCnJ: This isn't meant to mock you, I just wanted to make that joke. E: And now that I finished reading the rest of the posts it looks like this was alread mentioned. Ah well.)

Just a little analysis of what's pulling at our XP in the short and long term:
  • Alertness: the God Stat, immensely useful in all forms of combat, and we just don't have enough of it.
    • What do we want: At least Alertness 40, let's go 45 for good measure.
      • Levels 31-45 will collectively cost 585 XP.
    • When do we want it: short term. Even apart from the tournament coming up we flat out don't want sub-par Alertness ever.
  • Empathy: Our current best bet for trying to make Hazou better at socials. A constant drip into this will, alongside good character interactions, help Hazou grow as a person.
    • What do we want: Let's say level 30, putting it above even Deceit in our social skills.
      • Levels 11-30 will collectively cost 410 XP.
    • When do we want it: short term. Hazou's got social issues and we need to start working on them now.
  • Sealing: Even putting aside the utility of being able to research better and faster, right now we can't infuse Skywalkers and that makes it hard to claim any of the credit for coming up with them.
    • What do we want: We should feel safe to infuse Skywalkers at least by level 30.
      • Levels 21-30 will, at double price, collectively cost 510 XP.
    • When do we want it: short term. The fact that we can't infuse our own darn invention is a real hit to our credibility as 'the guy who revolutionized warfare', and the sooner we fix that the better.
  • Chakra Reserves: Shadow Clones. There's no way we can get them soon, but we want these ASAP.
    • What do we want: Level 40 will give us 400 CP, enough that Jiraiya will teach us the all-important Shadow Clone technique.
      • Levels 11-40 will, at double price, collectively cost 1530 XP.
    • When do we want it: long term. There's no payout until we reach the end and we can't afford to sink everything into this right away.
  • Taijutsu: I suppose we also want more of this on general principles.
    • What do we want: Let's get up to level 50 (53 after Iron Nerve)
      • Levels 41-50 will collectively cost 455 XP.
    • When do we want it: eh, whenever we've got XP to spare for it.
  • Craftsmanship: for some of our personal projects. Far from urgent, but handy to have.
    • What do we want: Let's start with something like level 20 in Craftsmanship (building stuff) (or whatever the QMs would call that)
      • Levels 1-20 would collectively cost 210 XP.
    • When do we want it: mid term. We get payouts immediately but it's not truly important.
Conclusions: Almost everything we want right now costs around 400-500 XP to get, except for Craftsmanship which is half that much but non-urgent and Chakra Reserves which is three times as much and only pays out at the end. Assuming we focus on Alertness first because of the Tournament, I would suggest we split our XP between Empathy and Sealing at something like a 25/75 split until we get good enough to make Skywalkers, and then shift the Sealing XP into Taijutsu and Craftsmanship one after the other, and then shift to the bottomless well of XP that is Chakra Reserves, adding our Empathy XP to that pool once we finish up there.

I did not consider the skill pyramid when making this, but Hazou's has a fair amount of wiggle room so I'm not too concerned. Is there anything in particular you guys think should be on this list? Do you disagree with the order I concluded we should handle this in? Did I mess up my math anywhere?

Even before the SC reveal, my preferred order was Alertness, Chakra, Empathy, Sealing, everything else, Taijutsu.

Basically, Hazou barely has enough Chakra to power himself for two rounds, and we need to fix that. The shadow clone incentive just means we have to dedicate a bit more XP towards it than before. And we absolutely do not want to level Taijutsu. We can improve our DPS by researching seals, but we sort of don't need to because our effective Taijutsu is 59 before dice, assuming we don't spend a round setting up Ghost Scales (Tai 40 + IN 3 + Macerators 3 + Gauntlets 3 + Roki 5 + PH 10-5=5). We have DPS for days, we do not need to level this stat any more for a long time. On the other hand, Hazou is anemic as far as Chakra goes, he needs it urgently and it's only that he needs Alertness more urgently that's preventing me from voting for it.

Also, I don't think we need Chakra 40. J said Jonin use SC and Noburi said he has twice the reserves of a jonin. Noburi has 500CP, which means we probably only need 250CP from Chakra 25. If we say that the "high-jonin" J wants from us is going to be more than that, I'm still not sure it would be higher than 30 (820XP for Hazou, 550XP for Kei).

Pssst. Do a science to figure out exactly how much we need.

That for Keiko he wants her to be able to summon "Her two toughest Pangolins" with her own reserves beforehand, theres an argument to be made its CR 33-35 or something.

So somewhere in the range of 25-35. I say we ask him again at 30, and in the meantime our next plan should involve getting Noburi checked out by Kabuto ASAP.

E: and also have Noburi refill J enough for an extra clone to see if that works.
