I appreciate the link, but having looked at the spreadsheet, I don't see where you're getting that stuff about 5000 awareness at 0.1 meters?
For reference, it would take level 99 awareness to average 5000 awareness, so if we can figure out body language cues for lying, then I'll bet we could manage that.
e: It gets better at shorter range; at interrogation range (literally as close as you can get, I'm going to say something like... .1 meters?) you could get upwards of 30000 awareness... at level 10.
Man, I can't believe we didn't realize how ludicrous Living Roots is for interrogation sooner. THIS is how we determine if people are compromised.
Okay, this is just ridiculously good.
And considering how mods run things, we need to first check: how common is this technique?
If it's easy to learn, then interrogators would all employ this technique, and their bonuses would make them ridiculously effective.
If that would change the known canon too much, then it sadly cannot be.
Hover-over text for Living Roots:I appreciate the link, but having looked at the spreadsheet, I don't see where you're getting that stuff about 5000 awareness at 0.1 meters?
Eh? Now that is cool--not the Living Roots part, I haven't read that yet--the hover-over text. I didn't know Google Sheets even had that feature! How do you do that?Hover-over text for Living Roots:
This technique requires that the user be in physical contact with the ground. It renders the user able to sense and interpret vibrations, such as those made by walking, allowing the user to make an Awareness roll even where a target is unavailable to conventional senses. The target must also be touching the ground, and must be moving. If successful, the user learns (and can thence keep track of) the target's position.
While [the user is] motionless, the technique grants a flat bonus to Awareness of (level x 100)/(distance to target in metres/5). While moving, it grants the smaller bonus of (level x 100)/(distance/3).
Note that if you are unaware of a target and it is outside the reach of your conventional senses (e.g. silent and in a different room), you will receive the bonus when rolling to detect it, but not the benefit of your normal Awareness dice.
The 'must be moving' bit may or may not be relevant -- it could be at the "5000-50000 awareness" stage you can still sense subtle body movements/heartbeats, etc.
Math:
100 x 1 / (.1/5) = 100 / .02 = 5000
e: It is not dice, by the way. It is strictly numbers -- still good, but not 5000 dice good
Yeah, don't stress yourself out about it -- I kind of figured this was the case, but I also didn't want to just leave it on the table if it was something that we could do.Re: Living Roots.
This is a problem that's happened before -- the QMs design mechanics to represent what a technique is supposed to do and then the players say "Aha! Well, look at this non-standard case that you didn't have time / energy / intelligence to identify!" and then we have to figure out what to do.
Here's what Living Roots does: It lets you detect vibrations and maybe identify what's causing them. Depending on your Awareness roll you can notice things like "there is something moving in that general direction" or "there is something moving and it is 45' away on a bearing of 27 degrees" or "there is a person walking and they are <angle and distance> away", or "that is a ~250 lb quadruped and it is <angle and distance>", etc.
There is a limit to the precision you get, regardless of the fact that this was not explicitly stated in the mechanics. Regardless of how close you are, Living Roots will not give you the ability to (e.g.) detect someone's heartbeat based on the twitching of the veins in their feet and therefore determine if they are lying.
The requirement that the target be moving would make interrogations rather odd: the interrogator would have to stand still, and the interrogated person wouldn't be allowed to stop moving.
But I'd you can do that, it might work.
I expect that the QMs will veto this though.
Yeah, don't stress yourself out about it -- I kind of figured this was the case, but I also didn't want to just leave it on the table if it was something that we could do.
e: This is very much something we could Technique Hack, though
[X] Action Plan: Respite Anew
She's listed as having 5 levels in it, meaning she can lower the temperature 25 degrees Celsius, so she can make ice as long as it's not hot out. She can do this with a radius of 8m for 15 chakra at her current level.
edit: the insides of things aren't affected, though, so she'll have to keep the area cold enough for the water to freeze, but the technique lasts 50 minutes after completion at her level so it's not a concern.
Discuss the Mist Drain Situation.
- Minami knows Noburi's ace-in-the-hole, and has the ability to use this as leverage against Jiraiya's clan. We need to prevent this from happening.
- What can we offer that could convince her to keep mum?
- Personal favors, clan concessions, specialized seals?
- Is marriage an option here (oh god...)?
- Are there any memory modification jutsu she could voluntarily go through? (from Yamanaka or others)
- Any oaths or formal agreements to discourage her from sharing this information?
- Any false pieces of information we can feed her about this ability?
- Something that won't be easily disproven/won't show up on the battlefield?
- Limitations ("for mist-draining I have to be immobile"), additional abilities/properties("I can totally sense their affinities", "I can even drain through ice, albeit slower"), trivia ("it makes water taste metalic")
- Could this extend to other bloodlines/abilities?
Changes in YOUTH.Noburi:
- Talk about potential combat styles combining his bloodline with Water Whip/Water Clone.
- Any synergy with seals or traps?
- Skywalkers and clones (assuming there clones could use them) could allow complete 3D surrounding of the enemy.
- Does kawarimi disrupt his techniques? It would improve his mobility on the battlefield drastically .
- Pre-prepared misterators along with wires;force walls;explosives could box an enemy in, allowing for a quick draining.
- Could we improve the misterators?
- Poison the mist, increasing it's offensive potential?
- Tunneler's Friend could be useful here. Or we could try immunizing the team to specific poisons?
- Mix something with mist, making it harder to see through?
- Combine with seal sucking out air a for maximal humidity and deadliness?
- As with Keiko, we don't know that much about his bloodline, but it ought to be considered for future.
We already have two tons, I believe? Point, though.@Cariyaga Well then we should have her make ice when able as a potential bribe/trade good
Thanks!
Also based on eaglejarl lore update before those one it seems like storage scrolls would also be incredibly valuable to merchants
Merchants can't use storage seal without chakra, silly.
Well, they could hire a ninja.
Further suggestions.
- General:
- Stay on the quiet. We're supposed to not get noticed.
- Stay under Henge. We are all (former) missing-nin and should any scouts see our position and decide to knock without our noticing they'll see our faces. And that would be bad.
- Under our Henge, have face-concealing masks that keep our facial features hidden.
- Keep constant watches, especially above us for Sand's gliders.
- Establish escape routes, convenient kawarimi targets away from the base.
- Talk with the rest of the team.
- Keiko: Suggest gathering information about local markets/cities.
- Data about the market, city demographics.
- It would take little time and wouldn't draw attention to us.
- Her knowledge and abilities could allow to gather significant insights from this information.
- Could be utilized to trade along the way.
- Perhaps even buy our own telescope?
- We do have Minami, but two telescopes are better than one. Also it's our own.
- Seals, anyone? (discuss possible risks)
- Research & Training:
- Hunt/gather some nearby exotic chakra beasts/plants.
- Consult the team first: anything of value out there (this one goes to Noburi)? Will it be too conspicuous?
- Study some seals (Make sure Kagome clears it first):
- Basic seals from the Nara Library.
- Beginner seals from Jiraiya.
- Fool around, make music. (not too loud though)
- Mountain-nin seals. Take a look at these with Kagome to figure out what they do since we don't have the time to set up research facilities.
- Ask Noburi/Keiko for some Diplomacy training, since we clearly need help with our mouth.
- Do some basic training with the Seal Rings & Macerators, such that we can use them in combat.
- Read a book.
Thanks for reminding.
