[X] Action Plan: Definitely Another Normal Birthday

If anyone else has any ideas for birthday gifts for Snowflake (whether it's from Hazou or another character), please ping me so that I can add it to my Birthday Gifts post. It'll help lower the inherently high QM spoon-threshold that birthday updates have.

I still want to get her a cool dress with snowflakes on it (and perhaps icicle trim?)

Her own entire wardrobe in general would not go amiss, plus needing to keep clothes in her new room and change in there would be a reason for her to visit it

Gaku has demonstrated initative and creativity on a number of occasions. Telling him our actual goal then suggesting how it might be accomplished lets him improvise and work towards the goal if he gets stymied.
I am imagining us describing [Stone the Great Seal was made on], and also suggesting he find stone of higher purity and/or density than granite (or whatever else we were testing in the last chapter). We don't...really need to mention the Great Seal in any of this?

Like one of my concerns is that developing 3D sealing could lead to scenarios where Orochimaru figures out how to combine such a seal with his own...well. His own brand of nightmareseal.

...is this the power of Intimidation 100?

Pretty sure that Gaku is privy to a lot of ninja secrets.

We do if we want Gaku to understand why we're asking him to go look for odd rocks. My aim in telling him is to give him as much agency as possible given that he's previously demonstrated a capacity to use that agency in a way that has been really helpful.
Like one of my concerns is that developing 3D sealing could lead to scenarios where Orochimaru figures out how to combine such a seal with his own...well. His own brand of nightmareseal.
I can see this happening two ways. One is that Orochimaru finds out that we're looking for weird rocks, puts together that rock of that sort is important for 3D sealing, and then he builds a nightmareseal. The other is that he hears that Gaku is specifically asking for this sort of rock because it's useful for 3D sealing and then he builds a nightmareseal.

We could ask Gaku not to decompartmentalize that information, which avoids option two. Personally, I don't think we'll actually need to ask, because Gaku is smart, but there's no harm in doing so. However, we incur the cost of option one no matter what and I don't think the marginal extra risk incurred by option two is worth hamstringing one of our most useful and loyal lieutenants.

I think worrying about Orochimaru is a distraction to the research effort.

Regardless of what we will do, Orochimaru will benefit from the fruit of Leaf's research effort, because this effort is open, not a secret. Gaku researching strange rocks won't matter a bit in the grand scheme of things.

Idle thought: Dragons are made of Out-Stuff. Dragons are also one of the first (deliberate) creations of the Sage. I wonder if Dragons bleed, and what would happen if we drank their blood? I mean, we'd probably die... but what if we didn't?

[X] Action Plan: Business and Pleasure

@FaintlySorcerous if you have spare word count, could you include the line "(offscreen) check in with Kumokugo about skyslicer teams, report that skyslicers are vulnerable to dragonfire, ask for ETA of mission" or something along those lines?

Hidan: Now you're speaking my language
I'm going to go ahead and precommit a vote towards Hazou experimenting with Dragon Blood (with the exception of sealing, since we know that sealing with chakra beast blood/parchment doesn't do anything special). I already have a precommitment towards having a Dragon Skeleton set up in our parlor/tea room for intimidation purposes, so this complements that quite well.

HAZŌ: All right, my latest round of Severes has finally worn off. Time to hit the sealing research and fix the Great Seal!

KEI: I do not wish to be a downer, Hazō, but have you noticed those huge winged shapes above us?

HAZŌ: There's always something. More importantly, wait till you hear about this great unique stunt I've unlocked!

HAZŌ: "Oh, good. Ino was telling me that the parlor's furnishings were outdated..."

Stunt [DRAGONBLOODED] Unlocked:
You have consumed the life essence of the Sage's Firstborn Creations, His Outer Footsoldiers. We're not sure how you did this and lived, but repeatedly swallowing the Sage's Seals must have been good for something. You unlock a random Element for free (roll 1d6, if it's an Element you already have, then unlock the next level of mastery for that Element. If you roll a 6, then you may choose the unlocked Element), and have gained a permanent +3 bonus to social stats (and an additional +2 against opponents with a measure of Out Sensitivity, to be determined by QM-fiat).

Aspect [DRAGONHUNTER] Unlocked:
You're a Dragonhunter. When conducting socials in a room with your mounted kills, invoke this Aspect to remind your interlocutor "Hey, see that? I killed that. You don't measure up."

Kei: "...Men."

Hey, look! A new question to ask Jashin for our experiments!

Pretty sure that Gaku is privy to a lot of ninja secrets.

Also, speaking of Gaku, there were a number of times in the story thread where I felt like we were taking him for granted, and he was going to blow up from the stress & destroy something vital. Considering everything he does and everything he knows... that could be really problematic. Can we, like, throw him a party or something? Just to show our appreciation? Maybe a raise, or a few days off with the family or something?

We need to get Gaku a Gaku. It's assistants all the way down chief

@Kiba, @RandomOTP, @ContextBot, @Inferno Vulpix, @Dictator4Hire, @Sir Stompy, @Raichu1972: I have removed my plan. This is because we don't need to manually uncap Kei's resolve, and given that, suggesting she do things she'd find difficult for no reason seems unwise given that there's not a lot of return on our doing so. I'd encourage you to vote for @Insert's excellent [X] Action Plan: Definitely Another Normal Birthday, which has a lot of overlap with my plan, replacing the Kei section with a Shikamaru discussion about skyslicers. I'm open to un-deleting it if anyone can give me a really really really compelling reason that we should unnecessarily suggest to Kei how she uncap Resolve given that, in-fiction, she's presumably been doing this all along.

@Insert, as you're now the leading planwriter, this seems like it might be wise.

(Also, to prevent cascading screwups, I've simply strikethrough'd my plan - should I delete the post in its entirety? Would that result in the first vote for the plan (which does not itself contain a plan) becoming the plan?)

[X] Action Plan: Definitely Another Normal Birthday
Words: 291
  • Snowflake:
    • You're reluctant to create two discontinuous Snowflakes.
      • If you aren't comfortable, don't do it. We respect your boundaries with or without explanation.
      • This new plan allows for 12 hours of freedom immediately, with more coming.
        • Effective immediately:
          • Kei to reduce training by 4 blocks.
          • Snowflake gets 12 hours of continuous free time
  • Celebrate Snowflake's birthday (on/offscreen per QM spoons).
  • Following Days
    • Meet with Shikamaru to discuss Rock Strategies, high OPSEC.
      • We are currently researching a series of seals that will allow us to destroy sections of Rock at distance (Suborbital strikes).
      • Shikaku once told us to come up with countermeasures before releasing WMDs.
      • We have preliminary ideas for protecting Leaf from this type of attack (Skyslicer nets, 5SB shields).
      • Could he provide his analysis regarding topics of concern.
        • Do not mention Kei's request to spare some Tama.
  • Gaku (offscreen):
    • We need stone.
      • Provide reasons and specifications. Describe the Great Seal's stone and the surrounding area.
      • Please reach out to merchants, geologists, anyone you think could help. We're looking for samples.
    • Please collate as much geometry and geology knowledge as you can without seriously denting the budget. Have summaries written if possible.
    • Does Tsunade run an aid organization? If so, where does she get her clerks? Does she need more?
      • If so, could we encourage excellent GED graduates to go work for her, or increase GED output and direct them to her?
  • Offscreen:
    • Continue work on Air Tunnel Seal.
    • Experiment with anything we can earthshape. See if you can alter things to create a more suitable medium. What are the tradeoffs (smoothness lowers density, etc.)?
      • Obsidian? Diamond and other gems?
    • Ask Kei to speak to Pangolin engineers/masons - have they seen similar material? Samples of 7th path stone?
    • Check in with Kumokugo about skyslicer teams, report that skyslicers are vulnerable to dragonfire, ask for ETA of mission
