Please, not another youthsuit incident. We were nearly executed like a day ago. Wait for at least a month before trying another treason.

My intention is to write the continuation of the conversation with Yasuji. Some suggestions on how to handle that would be a good idea. Voting IS open.

And once again "we just want to have a little fun" tries to prevail over sanity.

Though this attempt to stop it is probably meaningless since last time it happened in my memory was when a big part of hivemind wanted to invite Zabuza to a game night. Reminder: the plan failed; Zabuza still showed up; Hazō epicly pissed himself and got Consequence.

@eaglejarl, @Velorien, @OliWhail,
So we were talking on discord about how sealing would go with shadow clones, and we had a discussion on how seal mastery worked in FtD. Per the rules:

We noticed that this was the same balance as AugJEV, where you rolled Nd100, and so was kind of OP for FtD.

Specifically, a check at level 20 would roll an average of 1000 in AugJEV, and an average of 20 in FtD, a 50x difference.

While there are differences in variance and whatnot, the simplest fix to this is to make it so 'every 50 correct calligraphy/infusion checks reduce their relevant TN by 1'.

Next, we considered how mastery might interact with the Iron Nerve. This is how I would imagine things would go: [suggestions snipped]
Thank you, this helps a lot. We've taken most of what you suggested, made a couple of tweaks, and this is the final version:
  • 50 successful infusion checks for a given seal reduce the infusion TN by 1.
  • 50 successful Calligraphy checks for a given seal reduce the Calligraphy TN by 1. Note that a Calligraphy check is only considered successful for mastery purposes if the infusion check is also passed.
  • Calligraphy checks that rely on the Iron Nerve for success do not contribute to mastery.
  • Mastery gained by Shadow Clones does contribute to Hazō's mastery after the clone pops.
  • A Shadow Clone has the same level of mastery that its creator had when the clone was created.
  • Shadow Clones do not have bloodlines, so Hazō's Shadow Clones do not have the Iron Nerve.

To clarify, if Hazou has 100 points of mastery in a seal and makes two shadow clones, who each gain 10 points of mastery and then pop, does Hazou end up with 120 mastery or 110 mastery? Other than that the rules seem crystal clear, and regardless of the answer I am glad that you've made them.

Would it be reasonable to treat 'close voting' as 'continue previous plan'? I can add a link to last cycle's winning plan to my original vote if you'd like. If not, I can just make a proper 'continue previous plan' vote instead.

  • Ask who the other ambassadors are
  • Ask what Yasuji's qualifications are to be a clan head
  • Ask if his clan elders have given Yasuji approval to conduct negotiations
  • What guarantee do we have that he'll keep his promise for future rewards in return for our immediate aid?
  • Subtly check to see if Mari or Uplift are subtly sending us messages
    • If they are, then follow their line of suggested inquiry
  • Politely but firmly kick Yasuji out, citing that we're quite busy and he should really schedule a meeting next time
    • no, I'm not slightly salty that nobody bothers to schedule meetings with Hazou, why would you think that?
  • Talk to Uplift about what they think

Action Plan: Schedule a Meeting Next Time
  • Ask who the other ambassadors are
  • Ask what Yasuji's qualifications are to be a clan head
  • Ask if his clan elders have given Yasuji approval to conduct negotiations
  • What guarantee do we have that he'll keep his promise for future rewards in return for our immediate aid?

"It has his signature all over it," Uchiha said with the fierce excitement of a hunter who's finally tracked down his prey. "Immensely powerful on the one hand, and strangely subtle and hard to figure out on the other. You can't even tell if it's a sadistic prank or part of a bigger plan, never mind if it's succeeded or failed. All the others can sneer and talk about how they're too clever to be taken in by your cover story, but you and I both know that he'll have seen that coming too."
Uchiha Sasuke, Shikaku's Apprentice.

I think Snowflake (Keiko's shadow clone without the Mori social handicap) could propose some helpful ideas so adding that to the previous plan
[x] Action Plan: Best Alternatives + Snowflake

1. Yasuji

Goals
  • Get more information.
  • Gain an upper hand in the negotiation.
Methods
  • Play bad cop, and let Mari be the good cop.
  • Demeanor: Carefully neutral, calm, professional and business-like. Yasuji seems more comfortable in more casual settings, use this against him.
  • Broad Narrative: The credibility his offer is suspect, there's little we need that he's offering, and we're the only buyers for it. On the other hand, our seals and jutsu are of incredible value, enough to score a top prize in Asuma's contest.
Specifics
  • Praise him, one Clan Head to a future one, for being so resourceful as to bring this offer to us so quickly after Ami's departure. Subtext: He's involved in some way.
  • Question what happened that the Wakahisa elders want to sell clan secrets to the traitors.
  • Push him on how much authority he was given to make binding promises in this negotiation.
  • Don't commit to anything, point out that he'd interrupted a clan meeting unannounced, and that we'd like to continue.
  • Be ready to calm Keiko down if she loses patience with the proceedings.
2. Clan meeting
  • Goal: Decide how you can help Ami and how to get it past Asuma
  • Ask if Snowflake has any thoughts to share
  • Hazou's observations:
    • Ami is unlikely to die. It'd piss off too many people for not much benefit. She also wouldn't go back to easily if she thought this was a real possibility.
    • Does Ami's letter contain a hidden message?
    • Ami lent Hazou a lavender scented hankerchief. Was that a secret signal? What does lavender mean in flower language?
    • However, both Asuma and Ren have an interest in declawing her.
    • What kind of resources do we have available?
      • Hazou's relation to Ren through Hana
      • Keiko's affiliation with Nara and their influence on Mori
      • Naruto and his connection to KEI
    • Hazou can't help but observe that Ami's escort arrived just in time to interrupt her explaining her plan for world peace to him.
  • Would Asuma be open to establishing a Leaf embassy in Mist?
  • We also need to brief him on the contents of our discussion with Yasuji, asap.
  • Implement whatever we decide on.

I can feel the waves of inspiration and imagination rippling through the hivemind. Let there be a competition!

We will award up to 15 XP to the author of the best bowling-themed omake (subject to quality and basic language/spelling/grammar).[1] In addition, the winner may submit a name to be used for a new NPC when we next need one (subject to sanity and basic language/spelling/grammar).

A sufficiently good omake that fits with the existing setting, characterisation and timeline could even get canonised.

Competition ends on Sunday 7th of June, 9 a.m. New York Time.

Did the training plans from this cycle not get accepted?
More that they were forgotten about due to the dubious status of the update. I'll sort that out now. There was a tie for Akane's plan, but Akane will go for the active option.

[1] Hazō will also receive 15 XP.
