What would you suggest as additions to that part of the plan, then? I am more than willing to add them if they seem reasonable.
I would suggest adding a section where we (Hazou, Noburi, Keiko, Jiraiya) thoroughly plan for the game night. Things such as:
  • How exactly the guest list would look, and what shenanigans people could pull with plus-twos.
    • (E. g., Shin bringing his "beloved family member" Ren.)
    • Should we invite all Kages after all?
  • Seating arrangements — should we ensure that some people never play with each other, lest bad things happen?
  • What games to include.
    • Should we modify them? Make them more challenging/insane, for people like Ami? If so, we should start on that now.
    • In general, draw from our experience hosting a game with Inoichi-Shikaku-Chouza as players, and then assume that Ami and a few other people will be twice as good as Hazou at munchkinry and metagaming.
  • What conflicts may arise, and how to gracefully de-escalate them.
  • Contingencies for potential disasters.
This should take care of Hana on a general basis.

Also, I would still suggest to at least ask Jiraiya about inviting Zabuza. It may be a good opportunity to gather intel.

This is great and I may add it to both my plans...but I'm not entirely sure how it adds to our time with Hana?

I made a second plan which is just the original plan but also inviting Zabuza over as you have suggested. Which you voted for. I don't think it'd be fair for me to turn the original plan into a branched plan.

We could try talking about the Kurosawa clan with Shin during lunch? We can try to have Hazou being mature about it and admit that he isn't a clan ninja, doesn't understand all about this and see what he is willing to tell us? @faflec
I'm a bit leery about doing this without supporting detail to make sure we don't commit a faux pas or similar, but if we have detail and enough people voice their support I would be willing to add it in.

For not abandoning Hana and becoming part of the proud warrior race the Kurosawa are.

Duh, 6 year old's always leave their mom's for their strange aunties.
I really like the first part. A good idea and I hope @faflec adds it to both plans.

I am a bit iffy on apologizing to Ren for something we are not sorry for. Anyway, right now the problem is that Hazou can't stand Ren. To Ren we are just the nephew that had been squandered thrice over and is now a major political headache (and a general one as well). I don't think she would have a problem to show up to any kind of event just because Hazou is there as well, or even if Hazou is the host.

Ah. Excuse me, I misread: I thought Veedrac's concerns were about inviting Hana to the games night, not about Hazou going to meet her.

Fair enough, though there's a significant difference between going to meet Zabuza in-person to unilaterally invite him, and asking Jiraiya whether he sees any benefit in arranging to invite Zabuza.

True, though my plan has us checking things over with Jiraiya, which means we'd have to suggest inviting him and presumably get his approval (since there's no way in hell we'd ignore him if he says NO). Not sure if it is still significant in this case.

What are we apologizing for again?

Being an asshole and treating her as if Hana's estrangement with Kurosawa's was Ren's fault, basically. 'Waaah I wanna invite all the Kages except for Ren for boardgames.'

Of course Hazou has first to realise this was wrong, and be sorry for it, which is why I said he needs to grow up first.

[X] Poll: makeup with Ren

It's what I want to do, but we can't just rewrite Hazou until it's true. I'd start with Shin, since through him we can cool our jets about the Kurosawa as a whole, and then start thinking about our dear old aunt.

[x] Poll: Learn to tolerate Ren

I don't think that it's be physically possible, barring mad acts of Jashin, for Hazou to truly 'make up' with Ren. Hazou's had years of being pissed on by the Kurosawa clan, who really are the reason for his miserable upbringing. From Hazou's POV (or my perspective of Hazou's) Ren is only helping Hana because of political convenience, and otherwise is trying to keep her at an arm's distance (literally, since she's living in an house not even in the compound). He doesn't have enough of a reason for them to make up.

What I could see Hazou doing, instead, is to tolerate Ren. She's a person of political power and can be useful, and the fact that she's the head of the clan that fucked Hazou's childhood over isn't enough of a reason for us to not make use of her as a resource. It's like Hana and Mari, except Hana barely bothered with the 'tolerate' part.

With that in mind, I don't think Hazou can go very far with tolerating Ren for long. Over a decade of poverty is a long time to overcome. What I would recommend is in line with what @Inferno Vulpix suggested: use Shin, since he definitely isn't responsible for our suffering, and learning to tolerate him is the first step to learning to tolerate Ren.

[x] Poll: Learn to tolerate Ren

This is what we need and something Hazou can actually pull off. Also, it does imply that we will learn to tolerate her somewhere in the future, not during time-consuming and hectic activity

[x] Poll: Learn to tolerate Ren

Either is fine for me.

I don't want Hazou to be the type that keeps grudges for (relatively) minor things. Those should be left for our real enemies.

He has messed up often enough that he should be able to appreciate second chances.

[x] Poll: Learn to tolerate Ren

Speaking of Ren, I wonder whether Hana's ouster was actually her fault. Was she taking orders from someone higher up in the clan at that time, perhaps, and had no real influence over the situation? She probably wasn't in charge more than fifteen years ago.

Shin is our age and most of the shit done to Hana and her family was before he was even born. Hazou barely recognized Shin even when they were in the same class at Academy, so there probably wasn't any bullying or similar. If Shin was actually responsible for any new suffering that happened it would imply that he's far more competent than his CE showing would suggest.

I don't count his CE actions, BTW. He's doing that because he thinks we're traitors, not because of what Hana did.

YMMV, but I interpretated Zabuza as seeing us more as worthy opponents than people beneath him. He seems to have enjoyed the hunt until he tripped and fell on snow to fake his death:

Skywalker origins are definitely out of the bag...

It would have been nice to realize that earlier. We could have used them during the exams. Hazou flies down, seamlessly swims underground, pops up in a grapple, tanks two explosive tags on his layered armor jutsu, then flies away laughing as claymore clones run around hugging people. The swamp would have been fun.

...I forgot. Should we be offering to give Jiraiya the favor Ami owes us?

Absolutely. He's in a much better position to capitalize on it and probably has a much greater and more immediate need of it. It's not as if a Major Jiraiya Favor in return isn't worth it's own weight in gold. That's how you get Hazou a summoning scroll, the option to veto marriages, or some serious resources thrown behind Uplift.
