Your opinions generally coincide with my own on the matter, likewise with experiences to a degree.
Yes, and as a kid I very much did not want more responsibility. But appropriate responsibilities and an environment that had a clue how to actually help me would have been good for me.

"Well gee I dunno folks... maybe we can do that fun stuff at the proper time in a few months or something after we get our ducks in a row and get all the intel sorted out. I'd also be more down to do this if we get done some of the stuff I wanna do too yknow."

Is that so hard to say instead of the politely worded and lowercase equivalent of

"FUCK NO FUCK THAT LOCAL MAXIMUMS ONLY, THIS IS LOCAL MAX-1 SO ITS DANGEROUS AND ITS GONNA FUCKING KILL US ALLLLLLLLL!!!!"

or otherwise completely drowning out something mildly fun sounding with a bunch of noise and complaints within ten minutes of the amusing idea being proposed?

Let's not kid ourselves. "Let's go do a bank heist!" is obviously completely bare of literally any proper intricacies or cost benefit analysis! There's no need to say it.

You're playing a character that is a magic ninja who can punch through concrete and make pieces of magic paper that allow him to blow things up, punch entire brick walls at people, and fly for gods sake.

I have an idea: lets actively plot to do some really fucking awesome cool shit once in a while instead of spending 100% of the time playing minmax Spreadsheet Simulator (and ocassionally doing something awesome and clever when its an absolute last resort to stave off an otherwise inevitable death.)

Like, goddamn, are you serious?

Sigh.

Yeah yeah plan for tomorrow etc etc

[X] Roomba

inb4 pointless pedantry along the lines of "Hazou can't infuse Skywalkers" , needless cherry picking or a big CCnJ response that entirely misses the point.

Added some of the Ami verification stuff from Inferno Vulpix's plan, reworded couple things. Still lots of room to add stuff. Do we want to try to do any merchant interaction in this plan, if we're already doing errands around town anyway (and gives Keiko the ability to be home without us around for a bit)?

Let's give this a go

Wordcount: 215
[X] Action Plan: Flight Risk

  • As Keiko is leaving arena, go and congratulate her.
    • Let Noburi take point.
    • Actually congratulate her. She won the exams, that's huge!
    • Subtly tell her J needs her to stay around here to both talk and do post- tournament stuff.
    • If she summons Pandaa, have Hazou distract Pandaa by talking while Noburi tries to talk Keiko down.
    • If she still reverse- summons, just play it cool. Either way, tell J soon as he's free.
  • Once we get somewhere private, tell her we have a second letter from Ami
    • If she tries to say her opinion doesn't matter, tell her we do care about her thoughts and want to take it into account as much as we can.
    • Get her input both on what she wants with regards to us interacting with Ami, and what insight she has on Ami's character.
    • Mention Jiraiya's thoughts and concerns on the subject.
    • We are open to talking about what's been happening, but willing to wait for now.
  • Verify Ami's story (if time permits).
    • Disguise: civilian.
    • Invent a backstory with Noburi. Ideas:
      • Writer interested in Mist's culinary history.
    • Visit a few restaurants. Inquire about their history, then ask about:
      • Connection between Byakuren's Cookbook and Experimental Cuisine.
      • Byakuren's Cookbook serving large groups of ninja.
    • Byakuren's Cookbook: name-drop Ami for regulars-only menu.
This is my first plan attempt, and I have a fair amount of time tonight to work out it, so tell me what you'd like on it and I'll put it together.

I'm not sure I'd support leveling stealth over Chakra Reserves or Sealing/Calligraphy for the sake of a heist. A lot of our long term plans revolve around having high XP throughput (Shadow Clones) and modifying our capabilities with seals (Sealing).
I've honestly been thinking about it...and I'm starting to have second thoughts about doing this. I'm expecting for a war to start up within the next month or two (if we're really lucky) and we're going to be sent out to do stuff. Not frontline stuff, that was part of Jiraiya's promise to us, but if we're put onto the backlines Hiashi and co. are gonna start pointing out the sheerest stupidity of putting a combat focused team away from the fighting. Chakra Reserves doesn't help with this issue. Sealing/Calligraphy (and Medicine/MedNin for Noburi) does, but Keiko is...kinda fucked in this regard. Her alternate speciality is Summoning, which she's used mostly for combat effectiveness. And we don't wanna send her alone to fight. Training Stealth and related infil skills gets us the qualifications to do a whole range of missions that would contribute visibly to the war front without the issue of being on the 'back lines'.

Just my thoughts.
I mean we already proved that we are able to run a successful con. We hustled a bunch of rich civilians with the Yakuza. This would just be the same thing.
Wait wha....are we talking about the same thing here? To be clear, I have been under the impression that a 'heist' is referring to gathering information regarding the protections around an item(s) of value, and then sneaking in to get said items.

NB: Stealth is optional in a wide variety of scenarios so long as you aren't literally infiltrating enemy command tents in Leaf gear in the dead of night or what have you.

You can hide in plain sight with a good enough disguise, and you don't even have to try to be sneaky.

Don't exaggerate. We have 18 stealth at the highest; if we rolled unlucky, a civilian could easily spot us. And disguises are reliant on a series of stunts.

e: I don't mean extraordinarily unlucky. I could imagine a professional guard civilian having 12 Alertness easily, since it's one of the few skills they can level. Then all we'd need was +/- 6, which is not especially unlikely.

So buying those stunts seems cheaper than leveling stealth up about a dozen points, and is more of a sound investment long term?

They're also all mostly for CM bonuses or for lowering the amount of time it takes you to get disguised.

Solution: It's a war. Always be disguised.

"Hey, do you think that teenage sealmaster wearing nothing but pockets might have been the most famous prince in the world?"

"Couldn't be, this one had a moustache."

"What about the ninjutsu specialist hauling a barrel around?"

"Also moustache."

"The waif riding the building-sized pangolin?"

"Was it a pangolin? I don't think pangolins have moustaches."

I doubt we'll be sent on the front lines. Didn't Mari make it part of the deal that we be kept away from the worst of it if we joined up with Leaf?
"Jiraiya," Mari-sensei admonished, "we're handing Leaf the world on a gilded platter. The least you could do would be to spoil us a little bit. For example, keep the kids off the front line -- their medical, sealing, and logistical talents all lend themselves to the home front -- or at least don't send them on missions where they might have to kill family members. Oh, and let me retire."
In all likelihood that means that if we do get sent on missions with fighting it'll be missions that we can easily handle with very little chance of an unexpected Jounin killing us.

I understand where you're coming from, but we're already seen as having value as a sealcrafter. Improving our sealing makes us better at it, but doesn't change the fact that we're already seen as having value that way. Noburi improving med: sure, though did we ever get a straight answer about what his CP needs to be to learn SC? Keiko's ability to communicate safely with Jiraiya will make her valuable wherever, and her political position makes her less likely to be thrown out on their own.

Though, to me the bigger issue is that being a stealth/infiltration unit with mediocre stealth/infiltration is not a good idea, because infiltrating somewhere risky and getting caught is probably one of the least-safe things to happen here. Increasing CP has combat applications, even if it is just boosting for days.

Why would we sneak in? Much better to run a confidence game. Stealth is a last resort. We want to gain access to the item so should play into our strengths. Misdirection, deceit, forged documents, bribery, blackmail and other underhanded tactics are what we should use

If we actually wanted something in a vault we would blow up the front of the house inconspicuously while having Panache tunnel underground and stick everything in the vault into storage seals in the resulting CHAOS, or (trivial modification to what I've just said that addresses the immediate and obvious objections to the wording of that suggestion as written).

[X] Action Plan: Flight Risk

Like this plan fairly well, it's got a good focus on the goals of the update while being concise about it.

Oh, if you're replicating the Ami investigation we had before I cut it:
Visit a few restaurants. Inquire about their history, then ask about:
  • Connection between Byakuren's Cookbook and Experimental Cuisine.
  • Byakuren's Cookbook serving large groups of ninja.
We had Akimichi handle the restaurant-to-restaurant Q&A by offering to pay for his expenses. Win-win because Hazou can use the time to prepare for Ami, and probably couldn't eat that much in the first place, while Akimichi totally can and gets to experience a lot of Mist cuisine for free.

Y'know, based on comments from other characters, it sounds as if Team Uplift has single-handedly quintupled the immediate demand for explosive tags. Now might be a good time to dump as many on the market as possible.

Seconded. Though it could be a good idea to add a line about not telling him the details. Wiithout mentioning it in the plan Hazou can let it slip

I just sort of assume Hazou spends a decent amount of his free time every day making explosives at this point.

What else does he do, y'know?

I will agree to this only on condition we keep selling to Leaf nins exclusively. With the war on the horizon we can manage to do something less damaging to Leaf than weaponizing it probable enemies
