[X] Interlude: Goketsu Boys' Night Out

Nothing could possibly go wrong with this plan.
It's a chance for Hazou and Jiraiya (and maybe Kagome and Noburi) to bond.

[X] Interlude: Goketsu Boy's night out.
I feel like this could be the start of some sort of epic amnesiac escapade with Jiraiya like the 'A Night To Remember' quest in Skyrim. Gods only know what two drunken sealmasters (one of them the Hokage) would get up to. While horrifying it could be an entertaining read, so I'm tempted.

I bet Team Gai (or at least Lee) would enjoy Ami-inspired training ideas.
I... well... see this is so hilarious sounding and potentially great but

MMKII is compelled by Casual Alcoholism
Does he resist?
Nope! No FP to spend. Oh well!
+1 FP

You know, it'd be too meta to be practically doable, but it would be sort of interesting if we were only one hive mind from another reality manipulating someone in the setting and a lot of the Weird Stuff going on was attributable to others. Maybe the Sage was the first one.

The wonders of support networks at work here. If only more people had as helpful a subconscious as the Hivemind.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to make myself a hot chocolate and look for some virtual hugs.

Keiko should definitely write up a pamphlet of neurodivergent dating advice though.

So in summary of the results:

1. Dismissive on the seal truck idea.
2. Out of the two politics ideas presented, Hazou can "have his chance" to convince Tsunade and the others are duds.
3. Great Library goes nowhere.
4. Breakup finally accomplished.
5. Training off-screened for now.

Guess the thread should think about the approach to take with Tsunade.

[X] Action plan: game on
  • Have Kei invite Tsunade to lunch

[X] Action Plan: Boom-Squish!

Which neither plan presented does much/anything with. Given that Tsunade is the only result where Hazou is being invited to have his chance, I really think we want to devote more plan space for how to approach her.

The library might or might not exist, Jiraiya was just dubious.

I agree that we should put together a plan for persuading Tsunade. I think we should let her in on our uplift goals and tell her we want her to become a part of that, and mention some of the projects on our todo list like creating a university for ninja and civilians to learn at (medicine and many other topics that can better people's lives) and doing things for all the various small villages and creating international organizations to help people and stuff. Also, we can make the case that Jiraiya is the best chance of averting WW3, in addition to being the only real hope for all the uplift stuff ever actually happening as official Leaf policy.

I dont get the general impatience here.

Why would we jump to trying to interact with Tsunade on the very next vote? Thats just careless. If devoting a third of an update to seal research and getting some bonding between Jiraiya and Kagome puts this off by an update, Im all for this.

Edit:

Also note that we have ~24 hours to put this together. Why would we rush this?

Perhaps if the Hivemind spent some time hashing out persuasion strategies, this would be viable. I dont think it is at the moment though, not with 24 hours of scratchwork, at least.

Damn that was a good update. Major props, @Velorien.
Jiraiya smirked. "Oh, it's bribery sure enough. Hoping Sunny doesn't see through bullshit is like hoping Akatsuki's leader will have a sudden change of heart and start resurrecting people instead of killing them—sit down, Hazō, it was a turn of phrase and resurrection techniques still don't exist.
:thonk:
"Well…" Reluctantly, painfully, Hazō summed up the series of events leading to this conversation.

"Kid," Jiraiya said with no ambiguity in his voice, "your ass has been dumped."
May I entice you with one small modification...
"Well," he said with forced cheer, "at least it's not just you, kid. Communication's a skill that takes a lifetime to learn. Half the reason my novels are so true to life is that they're full of characters failing to tell each other what they really think."

"There are some who would call this lazy writing," Keiko said neutrally.

"Critics," Jiraiya nodded. "Screw them.
lol that was great

Plan went about as I expected, except the girl talk was at the very high end of possible outcomes. Also wasn't expecting a "let's meet anyway" after Jiraiya criticized the Tsunade idea, so overall I think y'all did pretty good.

[X] Action plan: game on
  • Try to arrange a spar with Sasuke
    • He seems like a cool dude from everything we've heard
    • If this goes well and he seems like a good fit for hanging out with clanless ninja invite him to game night
  • Have Noburi get checked out by Kabuto to see if he can learn Shadow Clones
    • Make sure Jiraiya gives the go ahead
    • Also check to see If Noburi can give Jiraiya enough chakra to produce any additional clones
    • See if Noburi can get any more stories about Orchimaru out of Kabuto
  • Have Kei invite Tsunade to lunch
  • Send out invitations for game night
    • Invite Team Gai, Haru, Sakura and Ryōichi
      • Deliver Neji's invitatation personally
  • Get Kei to ask shikamaru to lunch
    • Try to get information on Tsunade
  • Work on sealing projects with Jiraiya and Kagome

Made edits to bring in Tsunade

Oh my gosh. I loved this chapter so much. All the team is going through so much growth!

My write up on people stuff:

  • Mari is really excellent at putting her own issues aside to help everyone else. There is no way she is over the revelations about what our Dear Aunt Ren might do, but she still makes time for Hazou's issues, and listened politely to our requests, which were very naive in universe.
  • Noburi is not only still the chillest dude alive, he is looking out for his clan sibs to a degree that impresses even Mari. I wonder how much he wants to grow into that role. It seems like he finds it very rewarding, but I'm uncertain how long that will last.
    • Maybe Mari and Noburi can start to share responsibilities as the emotional support for the clan? If Mari feels overburdened and Noburi finds it rewarding, that could work out great. We should watch to see if they appear to come to some sort of arrangement off screen.
  • Keiko. Her relationship with Tenten is one of the best things that is going on in the story. That Keiko feels she did the right thing by taking a chance and bridging the communication barrier is huge. Keiko almost never feels like she did the right thing.
    • We shouldn't and probably can't offer any direct assistance here. Except for the shadow clone thing. But we should offer all possible indirect assistance:
      • Don't take up too much of her time.
      • Don't cause her additional emotional problems. Basically, start being a part of the solution to the problem she mentioned that one night, and be so visibly and obviously enough that she doesn't spend all day feeling guilty about it.
      • Never ask her to call upon Frozen Skein.
    • It might be too early to intervene, but Keiko wants more control over her haptephobia. We could see if she wants a cat.
      • Asking will require subterfuge. Maybe start talking about Kagome's odd choice in pets, and what sort of pet she would want, and "hey, we're rich, we can get that pet, do you want it?"
      • A cat (not a kitten or a dog, those require a steady stream of affection, and Keiko needs to be able to not touch it as needed) would only be a good idea if she decided she was very comfortable with touching it. I would want a turtle, except they apparently don't like being pet.
  • Hazou should meet Akane and talk about this. Not right now. But within the week. She thinks he is in a totally different place than he is, and that is just asking for trouble.
  • Did anyone notice how Hazou was much more perceptive than usual this update?

On to non people stuff:
  • The great library might not exist! This is huge. If this can be proven, it is leverage over the Pangolins. We have a couple leads on this.
    • Who are the 7 great clans? They might be helpful.
    • Where was the great library supposed to be? We know a path that got destroyed supposedly lead to it, so where it was is probably public "knowledge".
    • If this can be proven in the other direction, that is also huge. If it exists, access to it is very limited. We could go get access to it, and use Nara printers to copy it. We can use the copied library as leverage over the whole 7th path.
  • Dealing with Tsunade will be tricky.
    • Lying is not an option. Reframing is not an option. She will know exactly why we are there, and exactly what we want from her. I think our best bet is to approach her for uplift advice, and not count on any political favors. But don't bother trying to hide that we want them.
  • Dismissing the truck scrolls. I think future things like this would benefit from Hazou asking, not if they would work, but that he assumes they don't work but wants to know the reason why. It helps us save face.

I'd like to have the next update be something fun after the stream of darkness that's been pouring into Hazou's heart recently. Not just fun as in "game night", fun as in "EJ is in hysterics writing this". Any ideas?

My own suggestions include:
  • Liberator village reprise: spar against every jonin we can find. Try to get at least one tally mark in the "win" column.
  • Exploring the catacombs.
  • MMKII's idea of turning Ichiraku into a mcdonalds-style franchise.
  • Sealing fun with Explosion-Uncle and Stepdad.
  • Take Sasuke bowling. No agenda, just getting to know our cousin.

I'll note that my plan has bulletpoint 4.

(Hush up about Bulletpoint 3! Thats a secret! We are starting on this too!)

Bulletpoint 1 sounds eminently plausible.

It would be best, of course, if we begin more of the high yield antics while under the influence...

Don't forget: I pledged to resolve this issue without additional evil (which has now been done) because my subconscious bullied me into it. @eaglejarl is under no such constraints, and is free to write Hazō jumping off a cliff (or worse, getting into a rebound relationship with a clan heir) should he feel it to be a plausible reaction.
