On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Think they have pet goats? Snorri has a few IIRC
I don't think they're Snorri's. He probably rents Goats when he needs to use a wagon/to teach his apprentices.
Old ornery the 17th, and Old ornery the 19th both made an appearance in individual scenes, but not anywhere else otherwise.

The same goes for Karstah's journeying, though she probably bought the goats, rather than rented them, due to the expected length of her travels.

Do Dwarfs have the concept of pets? Are there Dwarven equivalent to dogs?

There is a reward for omakes giving dwarfs pets on the bounty board.

- Things other than a goat or pony a Dwarf would raise/grow as a hobby. (Better chances if it's something that's long-lived, can be worked on over successive generations. Plants and Crystals are on the table.)

So go for it and try and make whatever choice you want canon.

Hm, a decent animal pet would probably be some kind of gemstone tortoise. Real tortoise are long-lived, so make the warhammer version live even longer, make its shell grow gemstones/metal nodules and other such things based on diet as they grow (which like all reptiles they never fully stop) and the dwarves very carefully alter the diet to layer the gemstones in creative ways.

Can't believe no one proposed mole rats yet they be perfect for dwarves. They theoretically can live forever, love the underground, love digging underground, are underground creatures, can see in the dark, and literally move around by sensing vibrations in the ground. Their colonies form complex colonies and tunnels system in the ground. They are just so dwarfy

nationalzoo.si.edu

Naked mole-rat

Always free of charge, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo is one of Washington D.C.’s, and the Smithsonian’s, most popular tourist destinations, with more than 2 million visitors from all over the world each year. The Zoo instills a lifelong commitment to conservation through engaging experiences...

Little known fact, naked mole rats have facial hair that they use to detect currents of air in their tunnels in the absence of sight, along with moustaches to keep soil from their mouths as they excavate.
it may not compare to dwarfs beards but a beard a beard:V

edit: this may be less of a pet but I imangie birds of some kind would be too it would be valuable to have for dwarves since they are underground all the time so they be a very valuable warning system for gas leaks ect

edit edit. Dwarf elphants would be valuable as well able to carry stuff on top of them, long living, very inteligent, they can semi see in the dark, since these would small they be able to naviagte through many of the small spaces dwarf would use and can walk long distance so they could be good compains, warning system, ect. A version of dwarf mammoths too in the north though in both cases unless the dwarf use some not great way to make them do stuff it would be more of a partnership with the dwarves not a master pet realtionship

I remember Snorri going on a bit of a rant about naked mole rats before nd how he founds them creepy and an abomination. WHF mole rats also might be massive beasts too.

edit: here are the mole rats mentioned in fic.
Horrible really. It says a lot when giant naked mole rats are the nicest looking things that tunnel through the rock your folk have made a home in.

Not even a proper mole, with fur!

Shameful.

"You done contemplating the inherent ugliness of underground critters?" Yorri asks from the back of the wagon.

"Aye," you reply, suppressing the shudder.

No hair on them! Unnatural is what it is.
About half the size of a Dwarf from foot to shoulder and three times as long, the odd mix of naked mole-rat and hedgehog is a terrifying thing with two sets of stone crushing teeth and barbed, toxin-filled, spines. A regular Gnubbler rarely got larger than a dwarf's foot and their venom did little more than inflame flesh and cause some bothersome itching, but the same could not be said for their queens.

Normal moles are probably on the cards. And I can't help but think of the giant badgermoles and shirshu from Avatar tLA.
They do seem to be, though normal moles have lifespans under a decade, so they'd need to be Warhammered and made stranger. Maybe they could be a bit like stone trolls and 'rock moles' have a stony exterior which is derived from the gravel and particulate matter they eat and absorb from dissolved minerals in their drinking water. Leading to rock mole lines with unique stony integuments, based specifically on the regional geology where a given line is found.

The simplest answer is that there is a dwarf who thought the exact same way Snorri does but instead of shrugging and going on because he has to invent new runic bulshittery, they decided to fix this problem by breeding them to have a solid lush beard :V

@soulcake, #Rune-Ideas for you!
[Engineering] Rune of Furious Strikes: It is said war-machines imbued with this Rune channels the fury of its crewdwarfs and imbues the energy into its ammunition, allowing for stronger, harder-hitting strikes.

[Engineering] Rune of Aiming: Derived from the Rune of Waking and Rune of Accuracy, this simple-looking Rune aids its crew with aiming its payload for the most damage, be it culling a horde of beastmen, or felling a monster with a specially commissioned Grudge Bolt.

[Armor] Master Rune of Biding Fury: Converts physical force into Runic energy. When a certain critical point is reached, the energy is released in a burst of blinding light and kinetic force in the enemy's direction. Inspired by the feats of Gottri Hammerspite and his Master Rune, one enterprising Master Runesmith created this Master Rune in the hopes of emulating the Runelord of Azul.

The Old Ones made dwarves from stone and elves from trees.
That's why elves like Teclis and Caledor Dragon-Tamer are like that, they are sapient pearwood trees.
…Wonder how many people will get that without having to look it up.

I 100% did not get it, the dawi have domesticated messager birds, they use them rarely, more often they use them as pet.
Crows are a cannon pet for the dawi.
