[X] Action Plan: Don't Wait
There are limits on what we can discuss as this is a matter of clan secrets but we intend to be as open as possible.
  • Once Mari returns and we consult with her we will be able to maximize transparency.
Is this clan secrets? I have been under the impression that EM isn't a clan secret.

In either case, however, I wouldn't have a "consult with Mari" section, as it ... sounds an awful lot like we want to make a positive spin on the situation.

I have to concur. This jutsu's development probably has been weaponized in ways Isan would never think of. Furthermore, you need sc to make it viable. There's also the conditions it was cast in and the lack of testing.

Not sure I would tell Asuma we can do this at will as the lead vote states. We know zip about TH without the information on how to actually do it, and yet we ventured blindly forward into edges of jutsu overdevelopment anyway. It may turn out that the safety precautions we should taken or the analysis is more different than it is similar for seal safety precautions. In other words, we may have inadvertently tried our hand at TH in an obtuse manner.
"Ow!"

2 xp penalty. Sorry folks. Sorry faf . To discord it is. Damn it.
Please don't be too bothered. Mistakes happen.

I also don't see an advantage in waitin' for Shika here that outwei_hs the imperative to Debrief Our Commander Ri_ht Now on what he thinks is an invasion.
"Yipe!"

"Ahhhh! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!"

Minato's notes are not a clan secret. The work we did to decrypt the notes constitutes a clan secret.

ES is not a clan secret. If we can determine how to use it to create 3D seals that will be a clan secret: at least, I would not surrender the know-how to Asuma meekly. We have put time, effort, and research into this. What is a clan secret if not know-how a clan has invested time, effort, and research into?

I have made this adjustment.

That's fair, I'll vote for your plan after you remove the consulting stuff.

PSA: Very minor retcon to chapter 561: name altered

I misremembered the name of Jinno's ladyfriend. She is Mikiko, not Kotoe. Fixed.

Can't condone us tellin' Asuma immediately. That's potentially suicide. We need to talk to Mari first. Period.

[X] Action Plan: MARI SENPAI SAVE US

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail @Paperclipped What is Hazou's opinion of what Asuma, Kei, Ami, and/or Shikamaru would do if they knew the full details of our EM nuke? As in, how likely are they to decide that Hazou/Akane need to die, from Hazou's POV?
Hazō the character has no relevant insight beyond what you already know.

I have concerns.
  • "As per your orders to create apocalyptic weaponry, that was us, sir, and we can do it at will.
  • "The weapons-test was not expected to be this powerful or wide-area, or we would have tested it even further than merely 'miles outside of Leaf'.
  • "We also are not entirely sure how different environmental conditions may impact the effect.
  • "Since using it in an act of violence would plausibly spell the start of a new war of survival to exterminate leaf at any cost by all other polities, we recommend either the public claim that it was a seal failure, or an alternative…
    • "Tell the other national leaders that you can do this at will, and demonstrate this by the attack of an uninhabited area at a specified time.
    • "Emphasise your commitment to peace, and precommit to use this weapon on anyone who attacks us in future, but no-one else.
    • "Say that your reason is that Akatsuki will not be around forever, but this will.
  • "We believe this weapon to be a potential existential risk to all human life, and recommend that it not be proliferated further than it has been already.
  • "Does our weapons-development meet with your satisfaction, sir?"
I am okay with the idea that we should tell Asuma what happened and even that it is safe to elaborate on the methods to an extent that he could have an ANBU operative learn the jutsu.

That said, if he responds to the tune of 'Hazo, I never ordered you to do this', we are entirely without other options. We have committed ourselves to a course of action and cannot reverse it.

Can this be adjusted so the 'at your orders' is subtext? That allows us to absorb the benefits without the same level of commitment. If your read of Asuma is correct then he will be just as happy either way, but if it isn't then we have room to save face and potentially our lives.
That's fair, I'll vote for your plan after you remove the consulting stuff.
Take a look and let me know what you think. I'd like to be able to play for time and consult with Mari, but only if pushed. I concur that it should not be included unprompted.

We have discovered a suicide technique. We barely survived.

I'm concerned that this framin' will tri__er a Deceit check. Combined with SC or summonin', this is not, in fact, a suicide technique. And Hazou and Akane only almost didn't make it because they didn't start runnin' at once and didn't know to use TF seals _oin' in.

I'm also worried that the whole "this is a disaster, please don't kill me" vibe will prime Asuma to treat it as "Hazou fucked up". As opposed to my own plan's vibe of "'Sup, boss. Orders complete as requested.", which I expect to _arner a more positive reaction from the man who wants us to be a valuable asset.

He's made it very clear that he desires and values superweapons from us, and his orderin' us to make them is imo what he did that scene (and is at least a valid interpretation, ie. "Asuma expects me to be able to _ive him superweapons on demand, so therefore I should create them").

on the one hand correctness is very important

on the other hand i think time is even more important now and honestly Mari's advice introduces extra complications and wait times, which may prove deadly - just a fundamental difference in whether Mari is an all-purpose social crutch and better to wait for, or whether we can weather the storm ourselves

and also polycrisis is lowkey set up to allow hazou x akane x ino scene haha...

any other comments on 'Towards Polycrisis'?

VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: ok nukes this time for sure
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: YES
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: FEAR OUR POWER
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: XAXAXAXAXA!!!
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: wow actual nuke nice one
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: ...
VOICES IN HAZOU'S HEAD: oh no actual nuke

I think 'complete order' tilt feels fake. Not how Hazo plays. Just tell the man the honest truth, which is that it's a complete accident.

But… that's not the honest truth. Hazou was deliberately pushin' the jutsu to extremes in the hopes that it would be destructive. He may not have expected just how destructive it would be, but this is 100% the direction he was aimin' in.

And we're not only creatin' nukes for fun (althou_h it is), we're doin' it to empower leaf. Ie. what Asuma ordered us to do.
