[X] Action Plan: MARI SENPAI SAVE US
Word Count: ???
  • Hazou tells our Chancellor to send a trustworthy ninja from our clan to the Tower to catch Mari on her way back from her report to Asuma. They'll tell her where we are (obliquely, no exact location stated).
  • Hazou & Akane dip into max OPSEC conditions (under the earth, anti-eyeball seals, etc.).
    • Hazou leaves a Shadow Clone to ferry Mari the rest of the way.
    • The topic: How should Hazou report to the Clan Council?
      • What are our preferred outcomes from the situation?
        • Nobody is executed/mind-eaten/exiled.
        • Akane is not forced to teach EM to anyone.
        • A war does not break out.
        • What else???
      • What actions can we take to achieve said outcomes (not mutually inclusive)?
        • Don't tell anyone.
        • Claim clan secrets.
        • It was a research failure (obfuscate with biju seal mentions???).
        • Explain exactly what happened and hope for the best ahahahahhahahahhaah.
        • What else???
  • When Mari arrives, we brief her really really quickly, and ask her help:
    • It was us.
    • It was EM.
    • These are the outcomes we want, these were our ideas to accomplish them.
    • Help us.
  • Book it to the Clan Council we're called to.
I'll post a variant of this plan with "talk to Kei and/or Shikamaru", maybe. I'm still faflec.reaction.

I think the existence of this jutsu within Isan and its availability there must be taken into account. Could be an overreaction, but the limits of this jutsu were probably not ever tested, not in the way Akane did. Asuma would need to know this.

I think.

On the flip side, It's potentially an enormous hazard only if someone who knows em has the time and incentive to push the overdevelopment of this jutsu. Not sure it's immediately obvious to users.

We should add somethin_ like "Must not reveal it to the Akatsuki, remember Leaf OPSEC is compromised", also possibly add somethin_ like "Keep it secret only if possible", maybe the Watchers can be useful in this?

I'm mostly just interested in what they think even happened. Considerinj the frost I wonder if there's a clan lord yellinj about an attack from Hidden Snow.

I believe waitin' for Mari to return instead of reportin' immediately has a vast trust cost. It's clear that we were waitin' for social advice with the intention of shapin' the report. Additionally it means our report is in front of all the clan heads, instead just Asuma.

I recommend actin' before the scoutin' force returns, ideally in a 1-1 conversation with Asuma.

I do not think we should allow the Clan Council to assemble. If we haven't cleared the situation up by then, we'd have to either do it in the Clan Council (most likely: we'll be directly asked and our Deceit is too low), or let the Clan Council declare war and then privately clear it up with Asuma (extremely bad look).

We don't have time to wait for Mari. We have to communicate with Asuma now. Whether we try to optimize our approach with Shikamaru or Ami first is what we should decide on.

Or, said differently, Hazo's immediate action once in Leaf should be to explain to whatever de'ree allows the scoutin' party to be recalled & a 'eneral alert stand-down.

That said Isan is a backwater tribe of moderately-learned semi-allies whose main forces are an Orochimaru cult (sealmasters, not jutsu hackers) and a history of fear, hidden in their spot.
How many of them would have even used EM to cool down, ever? They made it to survive the harsh mountain winter.

The letter idea is the best possible one. Also this might be my first time posting on the thread even though I've been following for a really long time now. The letter idea is the safest and most practical. Gives Asuma time to digest it and keeps opsec intact. Only issue is how to ensure no one outside of Asuma and those he allows end up reading it.

Edit: Sorry fellows i fucked up. Used the forbidden letter. Nice first post

Yes, because while awareness of whether our jōnin can survive the EM nuke atmosphere is well, we Do Not Want a live test of this now. We need a speedster to catch up with them and recall them before there are casualties, which I believe is a serious risk.
Sorry for the doublepost, but uuuh edit bad

[x] Action Plan: Cold War
  • Sanity check with Akane
    • If Akane is not fine with plan, wait for Mari and consult her.
  • Find Shikamaru.
    • Declare: He's not with Asuma.
    • This was ours. It was a weapon test that we hoped would be destructive, but we didn't expect this scale.
    • We think it is [poll result].
    • We'd prefer not to create a status quo where this sort of weapon is used at scale.
    • Does he think he can convince Asuma to leave this alone? If so, do so. If not…
  • Report to Asuma.
    • Request utter privacy.
  • Words to the effect of…
    • "As per the imperative of the creation of weapons for the protection of Leaf, I proceeded to pursue such. That was us, sir, and we can do it at will.
    • "The weapons-test was not expected to be this powerful or wide-area, or we would have tested it even further than merely 'miles outside of Leaf'. It was hoped to be destructive, but not to be capable of the destruction of a sizeable area of land with each use. The weapon worked much better than intended. So well that despite a paranoid level of precaution, it still almost wasn't sufficient. Hundreds of civilians must have been killed, in fact.
    • "Lesson Learned: In future, I will inform you in advance for similar tests.
    • "We also are not entirely sure how different environmental/weather conditions may impact the effect.
    • "Since using it in an act of violence would plausibly spell the start of a new war of survival to exterminate leaf at any cost by all other polities, we recommend the public claim that it was a seal failure, and to keep it in Leaf's back pocket as an emergency trump card.
    • "We believe this weapon to be a potential existential risk to all human life, and recommend that it not be proliferated further than it has been already. We expect Shikamaru to concur with this.
    • "Does our weapons-development meet with your satisfaction, sir?"
  • If Asuma seems more upset than pleased with his new shiny, pivot to more repentful tone.

Ok the letter is not really pratical, simplily Assuma have no reason to belive on an anonymous letter with " this is not an attcak" wirthen on it.
I still say that the beat option is to say that it was an experimental anti-D4@×®N seal prototype that failed catastrophically due its experimental nature.
And that i couldn't be any other case.

  • Report immediately to Asuma.
  • "As per your orders to create apocalyptic weaponry, that was us, sir, and we can do it at will.
  • "The weapons-test was not expected to be this powerful or wide-area, or we would have tested it even further than merely 'miles outside of Leaf'.
  • "Since using it in an act of violence would plausibly spell the start of a new war of survival to exterminate leaf at any cost by all other polities, we recommend either the public claim that it was a seal failure, or an alternative…
    • "Tell the other national leaders that you can do this at will, and demonstrate this by the attack of an uninhabited area at a specified time.
    • "Emphasise your commitment to peace, and precommit to use this weapon on anyone who attacks us in future, but no-one else.
    • "Say that your reason is that Akatsuki will not be around forever, but this will.
  • "We believe this weapon to be a potential existential risk to all human life, and recommend that it not be proliferated further than it has been already.
  • "Does our weapons-development meet with your satisfaction, sir?"

Should probably add some humility about how Hazou was experimentin7 with somethin7 he thou7ht mi7ht potentially be dan7erous, but had no conception there would be quite this bi7 a boom, and Hazou himself nearly died. Disclaimers are necessary 7iven that quite a lot of Fire country civilians died and it's not a 7reat look.

@MadScientist I'll vote for your plan IFF we have a (brief) conversation with Akane so that she's onboard, even after she knows the expected (possible) risks of:
  • Yamanaka-style mind erasure
  • Execution of herself and/or Hazou
  • Extermination of Isan/anyone who knows of the jutsu, which includes herself and/or Hazou
  • Mass-learned EM used to start WW5/Leaf's conquest of the Elemental Nations
Also what @roobee said, yes, let's keep this as private as we can.

I wouldn't normally do this but I also don't normally post part of an update either, so I don't want people thinking that the final result was done based off player discussion:

The plan for this update was always to have the following scenes:

1. Hazō plays with Earthshaping
2. Slice of life
3. EM nuke
4. Clan Council meeting where Asuma et al are freaking out and Asuma has suspicions directed at Hazō because Hazō is known (a) to be working on Minato's seals and (b) to have a reputation for thinking up WMDs. See below.

And yes, I broke the zero G rules, but I literally just now woke up so that I could work on the update and my brain is too muzzy for fixes.

Oh, and yes, you can have talked to Mari.

EDIT: @Paperclipped has convinced me to make a change. Instead of the originally intended scene #4, you'll get this (his suggested phrasing): When Hazou and Akane get back to the village (while the EM-storm is still blowing), they quickly hear that all of Leaf is on high-alert. Scouts have been sent out to confirm the strange effect. After initial reports, Naruto and a handful of jounin (including Mari) were sent out to intercept any invasion force/respond to any threats/gather more information. Hazou assumes that a Clan Council meeting will be called very shortly.
Before we make a plan def want to see what the rest of the update will have in it
