Wait, how does Haru know about the conversation with Naruto about Orochimaru taking over Hiashi? She studied him for a moment, chewing on her cheek as she visibly decided whether to have this fight right now. "We truly are loyal, Haru. Hazō is loyal. Yes, he said a couple of things that were taken badly but he didn't mean them the way they were heard. It was a mistake."
How did one mistakenly threaten to talk the evil Sannin into assassinating the Hokage? Also, which was better—a Clan Head stupid and/or careless enough to accidentally threaten treason (twice!) or one who was so amoral that he was willing to do it voluntarily and then cover his sins with a claim of stupidity and obliviousness?
"Of course," he said. "Just a mistake. I'm sure that Lord Jiraiya and Lord Hyūga simply misinterpreted an honest comment. Twice."

because we are great at keeping secretsWait, how does Haru know about the conversation with Naruto about Orochimaru taking over Hiashi?
And the comment on Lord Jiraiya making a mistake? That sounds like the Kabuto incident being counted as treason, but then that would leave 3 incidents of treason (Kabuto incident, Hiashi incident, Akatsuki incident) that Haru should be able to reference, not 2.Hazou might have told the rest of his clanmates about it just because he felt obligated to
hunted the desk up at a pawn store with his own money that he had earned on missions, not been given like a pat on the head by his clan masters.
He tossed the current stack of papers on one of the multiple teetering stacks that sprawled across his borrowed desk
Aw man, looks like our boy Haru was not up to the task of being an expert detective
Fixed, thanks.@eaglejarl i know this is the most incosequential thing in the world but...
also, i think this should be Asuma."Of course," he said. "Just a mistake. I'm sure that ... Lord Hyūga simply misinterpreted an honest comment. Twice."

"The thing I don't get," he said, "is where did the Hagoromo get all their scrip?"
Akane blinked. "What?"
"Where did they get it? They didn't get it from us and it was a huge amount. Were they collecting it a few coins at a time? That would have taken months, and not a few of them. None of the merchants I've spoken to said anything about Hagoromo buying scrip from them. In fact, a couple of them made a point about the Hagoromo refusing to accept scrip as change. Given all that, where did they get it?"
They grow up so fast.Akane's cheeks burst into flames. "We aren't doing anything!"
"Really? Because that's not what the estate is saying."
"What are you talking about?"
He rubbed his jaw, wondering if he really wanted to walk this road. "The two of you have been in and out of his hospital room. A lot, and staying for long periods. Yesterday, Yamanaka went in with an overrobe but she wasn't wearing it when she left."
*sad tree noises*She stared him down for another eternal second, then snorted and shook her head. "No, Hazō is not trying to start a romantic relationship with Hinata. He's said that he finds being around her exhausting and he worries about the security implications."
That's simple. Try to buy some of it back from the Hyuga. If I'm right, and the Hyuga were investing in us rather than conspiring against us, then they shouldn't have much to sell back.*sad tree noises*
So it sounds like the Hyuga may have bought the scrip, then transferred it to the Hagoromo for them to use. The question then is how do we find evidence as to whether such a transfer happened?
Good idea! That's simple. Try to buy some of it back from the Hyuga. If I'm right, and the Hyuga were investing in us rather than conspiring against us, then they shouldn't have much to sell back.
(Also, if they still have a lot of it, then they'll want to help us get back on our feet so that their investment isn't a complete loss)
If the Hyuga Clan bought a large stockpile of scrip but didn't spend it (as our Yakuza evidence suggests), they a) gave it away to other people *cough* Hagoromo *cough* or b) are still holding it. We can simply point out this to Asuma and he can order the Hyuga to turn over their scrip to the Tower for reasonable rates, if they can't do it it becomes much more likely the transfer occurred.*sad tree noises*

Hey look, a bunch of merchants bought goods from the Hagoromo, and the Amori Clan got a bunch of scrip from the Hagoromo. And it's very likely that they immediately went off to us all at once!"Yeah," Haru said. "And the day of the bank run the Hags made some major purchases. They went to six different goldsmiths and bought out most of their stock. They went to three different Yakuza gambling halls and exchanged scrip for ryō. They placed some huge orders for various kinds of goods, and they bought a big stretch of land near the border with Noodle."
Hazō frowned. "Why Noodle?"
Akane shrugged. "We're looking to see if they approached anyone else about other land. What they bought is a snip off of a larger holding held by the Amori. I'm trying to track down what the nature of the land is and why the Amori were willing to sell it."
May want to consider the wording of this. It took Haru a long time to believe that Hazou is genuine about Uplift, so it'll take Haru a long time to believe that we genuinely care about him and that Hazou won't just kick him out for being rude --which I'd argue is a fair concern, given our (completely justified) response to the Hagoromo outing Keiko to the public.- Also figure out some way to increase Haru's control over his life as a reward
It's not worthless, the Tower is buying it up and adding it to our debtMaybe see if they have a large warehouse full of now worthless paper with our name on it somewhere
Even better. "Please show us a monument to our folly, so we may learn to do better"It's not worthless, the Tower is buying it up and adding it to our debt
i buy this. so, what concrete proof would we need to give Asuma in order to make sure he puts a stop to their ploting and we can take our money back?If the Hyuga Clan bought a large stockpile of scrip but didn't spend it (as our Yakuza evidence suggests), they a) gave it away to other people *cough* Hagoromo *cough* or b) are still holding it. The issue with this is that even assuming the transfer occurred we still need to link the Hagoromo spending the scrip to the bank run: specifically, we need to find a link between where the Hagoromo spent scrip to people who were present at the Bank Run. Like, say...the:
And oh wait, guess what:

- Merchants traveling to Hot Springs
- Amori Clan
- Beppu Yo, Mist trader
- Fujie Jin
- Tanaka Mariko, Leaf civilian
