[x] Action Plan: Who Wants to Go on a Road Trip
  • Sasuke
    • Pain resurrected dead people with a ninjutsu. Hazou physically entered the afterlife and brought back someone he watched die.
    • We want to examine the site of the sealing failure in preperation for creating a new rift deliberately.
    • A sharingan might help with the examination. Does he want to come?
  • Neji
    • Repeat pitch given to Sasuke, adjusting as appropriate to Neji.
  • Harumitsu (with Ritsu)
    • Hazou's going off on a field trip to study the aftermath of a seal failure. Harumitsu is welcome to attend, with Ritsu's permission, to gain experience with sealmaster business and continue his studies on the road.

If you want edits then you should fork this and post your own version, because I don't intend to edit it myself.
I dont think this is going to fly, since we're stuck in Leaf until the Harumitsu kid is done learning.

So, next EJ update, I'll vote for any plan that includes at least beginning the Fire Hamlet Wall Project. Even if it's just Hazou and Co taking a day or two to go and fortify a single settlement.

Would Punch punch punch be acceptable if
  • If we start getting more chakra than we can hold, use it to build MEW walls for nearby settlements
Were changed to
  • Wherever possible, use excess chakra to construct or repair walls for a nearby hamlet.

        • Look at Orochimaru.
  • Research: Dimensional-Space Wobble Seal
    • A multi-element seal that warps space in the area inside the elements. Test to see if it bends light and alters the trajectory of small thrown objects (berries!). If space-time thingies were easy, then everyone would be doing it, so don't hesitate to go overboard on the restrictions and requirements, even to the points of uselessness outside of a laboratory setting.
    • Oh, and double-check with Kagome on it.

Haru's plan is...interesting. I was thinking of a number of security concerns as I was reading through, but his letter of...protection, I guess, should make sure nobody without a deathwish messes with them, at least not in Fire.

Mind you, I'd also not like to see these investees grow too big for their britches and start thinking they can lord it over other villages.

slightly concerned some group of bandits is just going to wipe the entire village so that there's no one to complain. Surprised no one thought of this before Haru though! good for him.

Yup ^.^

That just means that Haru and the Goketsu get to go bandit hunting. I think that when a hamlet/village gets the personal protection/interest of a clanned ninja, bandits are going to keep as far away as humanly possible.

Done and done. Added a "if there's time" because Snowflake might want to be out all day and I think she should take priority in this. Then stapled on an "invite Snowflake" to give her the agency to choose yay or nay. I know that it was implied, but I want to explicitly respect Snowflake's agency in the wording. Probably being too paranoid, but eh, just in case.

[x] Action Plan: Moving Slowly, But Moving
  • Run the following ideas past Kagome:
    • A seal that gives an output only near where the afterlife rift was.
    • A seal that opens a 1cm rift to a known path (whichever Kagome thinks would be easiest), that destabilises and closes after 1 second.
    • A seal that gives an output when summoning or other inter-path activity occurs nearby.
  • Talk to other sealmasters. Do they have any useful information on rifts and what causes them?
  • Spend time with your sister(s), Snowflake(s).

[X] Action Plan: Message Received Boss

  • Sealing research:
    • Dimensional-Space Wobble Seal
      • A multi-element seal that warps space in the area inside the elements. Test to see if it bends light and alters the trajectory of small thrown objects (berries!). • Oh, and double-check with Kagome on it.
  • Go on an instance of.... hang out with Snowflake.
    • Miss Newfound Initiative Pants is in charge of making decisions for the day.
      • Though, help her out a bit if need be. This is supposed to be enjoyable, not an academy exam.
    • Invite Snowflake to Ami-style training
      • Perception
        • Train with Snowflake in the morning or evening.
        • Face away from the sun, catch each of her practice kunai while facing away based on the movement of shadows.
  • Arrange for a teambuilding mission for the clan (plus Keiko?).
    • Idea: We will murder an absolute fuckload of chakra beasts and store the remains. We'll butcher up all the meat and contribute a lot of it to the village emergency ration stores and then send the rest to be delivered to villages in Fire.
      • Ditto with any furs that can be fashioned into warm blankets/clothes etc.
    • Try not to take more than a few days, and be extra careful that none of the less able-bodied come to harm.

"Actually, yes."

Huh. Cool, he hadn't actually expected that offer to pay off.

"The Yamanaka Stability Jutsu that we contributed to the contest. You know it?"

"Sure. I've been using it myself. I feel like it's been helping. I think, anyway."

"It's slow, yes. That's actually part of why we released it—there's a school of thought that it doesn't actually do anything."

"...What?"

"It's been a debate in the Ino-Shika-Chō for years. Yamanaka ninja do tend to be calmer and more emotionally stable than many other ninja, but how much of that is the jutsu and how much of it is simply the fact that our clan models those sorts of behavior so we all grow up with it?"

Uncertainty went through him. He did feel like it was helping, but the progress was so slow that maybe it was an illusion?

"I mean...it does use chakra," he said.

"Sure, but maybe it's just burning the chakra for no effect. It's like when you chakra boost while sitting still."

"That still has an effect. Your muscles are still stronger and faster even if you aren't engaging them."

She shrugged. "Look, take it up with Shika. He's got this whole raft of things he likes to argue on this subject, and I'm sick of it. Definitions of reality, identity, blah blah blah."
Ooh, science! :)

Before we actually get into the main part of this research, lets have a Hyuga look at where the chakra is being used when this jutsu is active. It would at least tell us whether it's even being used in the brain or not. The Nara have probably done it before, but it's important to be able to replicate results in science.

It's nice to have access to the chakra version of an fMRI.

we need to know if it actually works or if it's just Tanaka's tabi."
So the placebo effect.

The Nara probably have some people set aside who are using standard meditation or something to test for the placebo effect, but again it wouldn't hurt to do our own section of the study to replicate their results. We should pay a group of people to learn and practice the YSJ under controlled conditions, and explain to them what we are doing and that none of them are to teach the technique to anyone else. Half the group learns the YSJ and practices it every day at the Gōketsu compound, and half do likewise with a fake version that has one of the hand-seals wrong or teaches them to send the chakra to their muscles instead. We'll make it a single blind study so that only the instructors teaching them will know which group gets which version. We can't double blind it or the instructors won't be able to correct mistakes during daily use.

We'll hire them for a D rank every day for this study, and collaborate with the Nara on what methods they're using to measure sanity/resolve/calmness. Unlike most things we ask from him ( :p ), I think Shikamaru will be glad to have more researchers trying to replicate the Nara's results.

I'm not convinced hunting chakra beasts for their meat makes much sense (domesticated livestock exists for regular meat consumption, doesn't it?) but I don't mind going hunting if that's the goal per se.

Oh, Haru. Complaining about Hazou being all talk while carrying out his own little Uplift project, which he t-totally would've done anyway even if he hadn't met Hazou and joined the Goketsu, you b-baka. Such a tsundere.

do not mind me, just wetting my feed in plan making

[]action plan: give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, give a man a volumetric shit ton of goats and let's see what happens.

word count: waiting for the thread to keiko this.

thoughts:

  • essential food for leaf is all local and imports are exotic merchandise, most food produce in fire it's exported
  • hamlets despite being in one of the most fertile soil there is in the elemental nations can starve easily if they have a shortage of manpower, chakra vole invasions e.t.c
  • they are also taxed all their profits minus the essential (or at least i hope so, otherwise we will sic Haru at whatever daimio we found is "overtaxing" so he can eat their souls)
  • most hamlets must fend for themselves or pay for ninja missions out of their own pocket.
  • the few that are personally care for a daimio have it much easy (don't know if true, we have to ask the specifics to someone in the know)
ask araund:

  • what is the most easily farmable plant/raisable cattle and nutritious enough to feed a bunch of civilians?
  • what domesticated animals and plants are there, are they tasty, is wrangling them out in the wild a death sentence (ask akane, she is from leaf and is the least likely to judge us.)
  • can we build a hamlet in the abandoned gold mine terrains that are currently unused, if not, can we suggest that a bunch of civilians "invade the terrains out of their own initiatives" and form a hamlet on it.
  • how do civilians stablish towns naturally (that's to say without hazo's intervention)
  • do you need to be a daimio in order to tax civilian towns, if so can we have a pocket daimio (ask Mari first in case even asking this is treason-adjacent)
eventual plan:

  • form or patrocinated a town in order to build a monument to uplift and a massive fuck you to all who stand in our way (i would give +1 RLF XP to the QMS if is the very same that Haru just donated to and +2 if Hazö never finds out)
  • inject money into their economy proportional to what they would gain without the ridicolous taxation
  • consider a system like the adoption tickets for towns, every six months of so they get a number and can exchange them for "free" ninja missions (first gouketsu then leaf if it works), food, or trade them if they don't really need them; the tickets are wasted if not spent to encourage trading them to villages in need; i am perfectly aware that this will create a mafia.
  • force trade routes to other civilian villages in fire to boost their economy once we have our town.

let me know what you think, i am not expection this to pass next update but whant to get the ball rolling.

Late on some of these, it's been busy.

If the mist/leaf Alliance is seen as strong and a threat, that only prompts external actions slightly slower than leaf being seen as getting stronger and being allies with mist. Plus, since Leaf is pretty precarious right now (see, recent Rock efforts, bi-monthly Kaiju), leaf getting a little stronger probably solidifies our position more than shakes it.

That said, for me the personal calculus is against Akane getting the scroll, so arguments have to overcome my high barrier of "this makes Akane more relevant, gets her more screentime, makes her happy in character, and paired with FOOM and decent reserves puts her on track to being the scariest person in the world. Which I like". Hana can be interesting, but ClanHead!Hazou, Boyfriend!Hazou, and Halberdier all feel like they'd need a very good argument to give Hana the scroll (on top of the decent argument you already made, since giving an enemy village a scroll is a pretty hard argument to sell. Ami got in noticeable political trouble over that in a less ambiguous circumstance).

Nice

It's been mentioned before, but her analysis of what was happening during the soup incident was neither of Hazou playing a game and giving it up, or even a super accurate reflection of events. It was her trying and failing to deal with Mari while completely discounting a CQC summoner chunin sealmaster in close quarters in his house, which just dumb. And claiming "she considered it but dismissed it so it didn't even get written up" is both unproductively paranoid and does a discredit to the QMs writing of an interesting flawed character.

(I preface the next paragraph with the useless knowledge that I have been awake too long and as such what I intend to say may come out as more rude than intended, but I'll stand by my sentiment when I wake up next, whenever that is.)

Ami is very competent. For sure. And the thread does not have a perfect grasp on her. I certainly don't. But neither do you. And I'm aware of your stance that you are cursed and as such that you shouldn't ever vote or construct plans, and I'm not aware if it is just being a bit related to your not wanting to vote, or an actual logical fallacy. But, I personally do not appreciate you condescending to the hivemind's voting habits when you yourself do not participate at all. That seems rude, and not helpful.

I offered a deal about precommiting votes to your causes, and I believe you blew it off. If you don't want to actually take actions, vote, or make plans, that's fine, but please do not insult those of us actually willing to do so, since the thread members that consistently Make The Plans and Do The Things are, (as well as the amazing QMs) the ones who actually keep this running. So please. Actually vote and participate, and make plans occasionally if you don't like any winning ones, or please stop talking about other people's poor plans. Voting is not a high standard here, and I personally will take your opinions much more seriously if you're an active participant, rather than someone who just says "I told you so" retroactively on some issues out of a swath of predictions.

My apologies for the rant.

I think signaling interest in knowledge while admitting we know it's valuable is fine? Like, wanting to know how much your dream house costs when you're saving up and moderately broke just gives you an estimate on how much work to need to do to be able to get it. People don't think you're stupid for expressing eventual interest in a thing that most people think is valuable, but not everyone would be necessarily willing to invest the capital to buy, y'know?

Hopefully that metaphor makes sense, but if it doesn't: asking about it as a possibility and making clear we appreciate that it's a big deal seems fairly harmless, and we'd be remiss in our duty of care not to at least try.

That's my next vote. Use it as you will so long as you acknowledge that you were warned that the last time I tried to cast a vote in this thread Jiraiya died. Perhaps I am just succumbing to superstition in latent recognition of a Keiko-esque talent for critiquing plans over crafting my own. Your call.

By the way, do we know any seals that fuck with dimensions apart from storage seals? Or is this completely breaking new ground?
