PSA: Hazō is confident that Itachi does not want to see you again and neither he nor Hidan expect you to stick around.

Also, the land behind the portal on the other side is heavy forest. Hazō was about fifty feet up during this chapter and the forest went for as far as he could see.

Plot twist: It's one of the many planets seeded by the Ancient in the stargate universe.

Sounds like we still have a bit of time before the portal closes. We should create a list of things to test while we have this chance.

Afterlife Research Ideas:
  • First, put a bunch of life forms in there, in cages or something so we can just keep them in and see if anything happens to them over a period of time. We can take them out before the portal gets too small, and see if their descendants have any negative side effects. If there's some kind of chakra radiation that gives you chakra cancer, I want to know about it.
    • Test subjects: Mice, fruit flies, nearby weak/small chakra beasts, plants (just dig up some grass or something and put it in a pot)
  • That seal degradation worries me. Activate a bunch of long term seals (tunnelers friend, purifier, etc) and throw them in. See how long they last compared to normal. Also throw in a bunch of inactive ones, then take them out at the end and see if their duration is still the same
    • This will show us how long our seals will last when we do extended forays into the afterlife someday.
  • Can stuff be destroyed inside, or does it just come back? Toss in some explosives, see if they can make permanent craters. Throw in a chakra beast/animal, then blow it up. Does it come back like Daizen?
  • Go up as high as you can on skywalkers. Can you see anything past the forest?
  • Drain a chakra beast or animal and put it in. Test it after a few hours to see if it regenerated any chakra.
    • I want to see if chakra regen might not exist here either. It seems likely that this place causes some kind of problems with chakra or something, and with more data we may be able to figure out what it does to chakra exactly. If chakra doesn't work properly in here, we at least want to know what's different. Preferably why it doesn't work properly, but I'm not sure how easy that will be to figure out.
  • Go and explore the forest. Blow up any strange creatures that try to eat you, then catalog them. Do they seem different from chakra beasts you're familiar with? Are there any people here?
    • The intention is to do this while the other experiments are ongoing. Ideally with a lot of skywalkers on hand. If we wait too long the portal may close before we can scout it out.

This list is designed with an Eaglejarl update in mind, thus the exploration/punching. The intent is Eaglejarl can focus on the punching (potentially including any punching necessary to find chakra beasts to use as test subjects), and then just list any afterlife rules at the end that we would find out with our line of research. Unless of course he wants to write that, in which case even better.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what experiments Velorien would enjoy, unless we actually find people to talk to in there.

Edit:
Aha! We have a Daizen! We need to debrief him about how much of that he actually remembers, and that would be perfect for a Velorien update.

Afterlife Research For Next Update:
  • Wake Daizen up with a small amount of chakra water. Don't let him have more than the bare minimum chakra he needs in order to wake up, and keep him restrained.
  • Ask him what the last thing he remembers before being saved was. Ask him whether he remembers dying repeatedly.
  • Ask him what else he remembers from the ordeal.
    • Basically, I'm not sure whether Daizen actually remembers what happened when he was dying repeatedly. He tried to continue our fight when we saved him, which is a little strange for someone who just spent the last couple hours or so dying repeatedly
    • Furthermore, he was screaming the exact same way every time he died. I would expect him to either get tired of screaming at some point, or maybe to start begging for help or something, if he remembered every time he died.
  • Ask Daizen for a rundown of Jashin's teachings.
    • It would probably be dangerous to ask Hidan, but it shouldn't hurt to ask Daizen. This will be useful for future interactions with Hidan.

You know what? Considering what happened the last update.... here my plan

1) Convince Haru to Join Uplift and don't sell us to the Hokage
2) Return to Leaf without dying and going in other problems
3) Stop pissing off people stronger than us
4) Train until we're S-rankers with SC.
5)Did i mention stop getting into situation this far out of our League?

We are in urgent need of a training montage or we're going to die one of these days.

To summarize my ideas:
  • This next update will presumably be a Velorien update. We should try to appease the Dark One with some social, while at the same time avoiding Hidan/Itachi like the plague.
    • Because they'll kill us. Or at least Itachi will.
  • However, we should also stick around the portal so we can learn things from it.
  • Therefore, we should interrogate Daizen on his experience in the afterlife.
    • This will allow Velorien to write some social, as well as potentially horror/suffering since anyone coming out of that cannot possibly be sane.
    • Unless he doesn't remember any of it, which I'm sure Velorien can turn into some kind of suffering anyway.
    • This, plus the research ideas I have for Eaglejarl's next update, should give us an idea of the downfalls of dying in the afterlife. Which may or may not be better/worse than dying in the mortal world.

I think we are out of time to play with the portal, unless anyone has any ideas for something on us that can record where the Afterlife is.

unauthorized skywalker use. rip.

unknown black portal
anyone remember what this is?

playing with afterlife (?) sealing portal sounds dangerous, since it is a sealing failure which you generally don't mess around with.

we should check out what that dead cat is.

we should make sure we didn't drop the summoning scroll in the portal

might add signs saying don't break open the MEW or death

@eaglejarl, @Velorien When Itachi and Hidan saw the sealing failures, did they make any comments on what safety procedures to do? or on the adequacy of the current ones? Also, did the molten lava tube just dissapear? or is under the wall of MEW as well? did they talk about how to stabilize the afterlife portal? or how far away other members of akatsuki sealmasters who might know how to stabilize the portal are? did mari ever tell hazou what the plan was for how to lie to hiashi about akatsuki contacting us first?

Around the clearing, space and time had fractured, three separate rips winding their way through the air. The first was a handspan crack that meandered ten feet on a generally north/south route. Purple-grey tentacles, or perhaps hairy roots, were growing through it and groping around for anything nearby. The second rift was larger, an amorphous tear large enough for a person to crawl through. It was inky black, a pulsing opalescent sheen around the edges, and emitted keening screams that wandered up and down the register of human hearing and probably beyond.

It is intensely fascinating to me that sound doesn't pass through the portal, but people can.
Is air forbidden to pass through? Or "energy" in some sense? I guess we can see through it, so light goes through.
There is no mention being suddenly out of breath, but I guess we would instantly begin to breathe in Otherworld air as soon as we passed through. Or maybe air encapsulated in a person can traverse it.

The rope bent around the top of the portal as though it were the lintel of a door,

Okay, so, the edge of the portal seems not to be, like, atomically sharp, since it didn't slice the rope. Can we try to wedge it open with a log or something?

Edit: Have we asked what the "back" of the portal looks like?

Does killing object near portal cause them to appear inside it?
What happens if you maim the object first and than kill/shove it inside, and than bring it back?

Objects to test: rock, beast, civilian, shadow clone, ninja

should also leave some chakra critters to unending death to make up for rescuing daizen to appease jashin

Huh, we survived. I'm super curious what the miscommunication was about, so hopefully a QM will tell us eventually.

As for what to do now, I'm strongly against active research of the portal, it seems to be repairing itself by draining chakra from the world or things which pass through it. That is a recipe for disaster. Instead we should stick to passive research where nobody goes through. So here's a quick chunk of a plan, that others can incorporate.

Also, I suspect that the portal might just lead somewhere else on this planet or the animal path, so I'd want to drop markers on the other side.

[x] Action Plan : Some quick research.
  • Do some tests, keep a log. Disengage if danger. Do not send anyone through the portal.
    • General Tests
      • Independent Variables (to be kept near, sent through, activated near, or killed near the portal) : Chakra water, seals, chakra constructs , animals, inert objects, elemental clones, and shadow clones (if both sides of portal have identical physics after all other tests).
      • Dependent Variables: Portal size, Portal stability, Chakra content of retrieved things, any other observations.
    • Store something from the other side of the portal. (air would suffice)
    • Gouge "Please return to Clan Goketsu to claim finder's fee. <random number>" into some metal things and toss them through, log the numbers.
    • Maybe close the portal by letting it drain some of Nobby's chakra water.

[x] Action Plan : Some quick research.

I hereby precommit to vote for any plan that does at least some research on the portal.

"There was a seal failure involving a portal to a dimension with acidic oceans, Hazou fell through and needed to use Skywalkers to get out."
Will we be able to say that without rolling deception against Asuma?

[x] Action Plan : Some quick research.

Supposing Hidan was serious about studying the portal, and if we do run some tests, we should probably leave notes of our insights for Daizen and Hidan.

We're going to have to explain what we did with them though. That might be hard without mentioning Akatsuki.
Why are you trying not to mention them?

I'm pretty sure we really shouldn't be messing with the portal. The way everyone was talking we're going to get dragged away the moment we suggest doing more to mess with it.
