Now I'm sorry I wrote this fucking thing.
I'm not! Wasn't really expecting the chance to kick back and read some quality MfD content with a beer yesterday after a pretty long day, so that was really nice. Thanks!

(Bitching about how it wasn't quite what it was previously made out to be aside, it was quite enjoyable to read and provides enough workable info for us to get started on some 7th Path stuff in the near-ish future. Modulo some of the information being true in the present and whatevers changed over time, at the very least this gives a nice scaffolding for everyone to base 7th Path things off of on both the player and the QM sides--should you three wish to do that, of course.

Also, the Sarutobi/Jiraiya interactions here are pure platinum. Doubly curse you Akatsuki!!! If only, if only...)

Aside: Yo thread, can we find Hazou some sort of major mentor figure? Kagome and Mari are both great, but neither of them are exactly the all-knowing worldly Obi-Wan/ Master Yoda we need. Kagome is far more likely to tell you to blow something up than do anything else to solve it (which solves the problem often enough, but may not be the mspt satisfactory solution in all cases) and Mari is some combination of too stressed/too lazy/ too broken/far too busy to really give us the instruction we're gonna need to not be a useless shlump in the short-mid term.

Let's go ask Hiashi. Since all of Hazou's mentor figures are either dead or mentally fucked, it should take him right out of the running for the Hat in short order.

Now I'm sorry I wrote this fucking thing. It was supposed to be sweet and a little helpful but it's just been the cause of a mountain of bitching about how Jiraiya sucks.
It is sweet. It just is better positioned as being the first page of a stack of chaotic and semi-decipherable crap that you otherwise don't bother writing out in detail.

It is definitely more charming than just a dry infodump. It just isn't quite a complete replacement for one.

NARUTO: What the fuck are you talking about?

HAZOU; It's simple. Team Uplift has this destiny of blood and chaos that seems to follow us wherever we go. It follows then, that the best way for us to take Hiashi down in a manner that doesn't raise suspicions is to earnestly join his side.

NARUTO: That is the stupidest thingy I've ever had thung at me!

SHIKAMARU: No,this is pure genius ! Weaponized Gouketsu madness, of course!

HAZOU: On a related note: I am so sorry for having built a shrine featuring personal items of your father and talking to his picture like he was my best friend.

SHIKAMARU: ...I see.

SHIKAKU'S GHOST: I see.

HAZOU: On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I got Zabuza killed.

ZABUZA!SHIKAMARU: That's alright, he wasn't a Leaf-nin in good standing, so I'm sure there will be no consequences for this. Of any sort. At all.

I didn't realize that it was explicitly called out as a bequest.

Whatever, we'll get you something else. Hold your water, it'll take a while.

I think it was a fine document. I didn't notice the bequest thingie though.

Nah it was good read, I enjoyed it. Just change that bit about it being the only seventh path notes into "the most notable" or "the first of a folder of notes" that all more or less say the same thing and your post still works.

Take your pick.

That's pretty comprehensive, thanks! I'm glad someone didn't just shitpost at me!

If you cut out the part about it being the only info he left us about the 7th path, it makes an excellent interlude. I think everyone's problem was just about it being the end all be all to what we know about summon politics from Jiraiya.
Yeah, but why would he have left you notes on the Seventh Path? It's not a thing he needs in writing at all, and if such a thing existed for some reason then it should be on the Seventh Path, at Toad HQ. There is literally zero sense in it being on the Human Path. I'm annoyed that we said there was such a thing.

Meh, whatever. Either @Velorien or @OliWhail will convince me that no, really, it makes perfect sense for Jiraiya to have left complex notes about another dimension in his desk here, where it can't do any good for the people who actually need it (i.e. the people in the other dimension), or we'll give you whatever he had time to jot down and maybe say there was something more in the Seventh Path.

I just regret that the thing came up at all. Waste of spoons for something that makes no sense and isn't anything you actually need, but now there's this obligation. Still, I signed off on the original statement so I have no right to complain.

Collecting information on Summoners, their clans and their affiliations for the Konoha bingo book or Intel department / Shikaku?

I figured it was something he was compiling for Keiko, since she was involved and wanted to know more to better handle the Pangolins.

Jiraiya for bijuu worship confirmed. :p

But in all seriousness, that sort of information wouldn't go to us IMO, it'd go to the ANBU and related departments.

Theres an argument to be made that he would squirrel away some information here and there in case of his death so that us or Naruto would be able to potentially put it to good use.

In this case: well, we have at least one summoner so that sort of thing would probably be decently useful to us.

To be clear, first: I don't mind the interlude at all and think it was really cute.

Second: He could have written it out to help in interactions with the summon path in case he died, since there'd be at minimum one additional summoner in the clan in that case.

Clearly we've reached the point in the narrative arc where the hero's mentor has to die, so that the hero can handle problems on his own. Damn.

Well, if he died, any information would be in the Toads possession for who knows how long(Noburi needs to train to become summoner) and Jiraiya knew that summoners would die in the battle, meaning the 7th will encounter massive changes.
He probably thought "They should not need it, but if they do, not having it at hand would be a disaster" and put said information where we could reach it, sensible for the spymaster of Konoha, if a bit on the cautious side.
